LD slag, that is, a by-product of steel making process, has been mainly used as land construction materials. Recently, the seashore application of LD slag was tried in Japan and Korea tut the reaction between LD slag and seawater was not studied yet. We tried to clarify the leaching reaction and/or mechanism of LD slag and the reaction between seawater and LD slag. We tried to apply these results to the decarbonization of seawater for seawater magnesia process. At first, LD slag was milled and classified into 5 grades, that is, (ⅰ)45${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ under, (ⅱ)0.25~0.5mm (ⅲ)0.5~1mm(ⅳ)1~2mm, (ⅴ)2.36~3.35mm. These slags were leached in the distilled water. In case of 45${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ under, the pH of the leached solution was over 12. The chemical analysis of leached solution showed that the $Ca^{+}$$^2$was main component and the S $i^{+}$$^4$was very low. On the other hand, the content of S $i^{+}$$^4$in leached solution was decreased with the increase of pH of this solution. The nearly pure calcium solution was made and the ultra high purity MgO could be made with this calcium solution. The leaching behavior of LD slag was different between the fine particle and coarse particle. The calcium was leached by bulk dissolution in the coarse particle and by surface controlled reaction in fine particle. The leaching rate was slow in coarse particle and fast in fine particle. Therefore, the high pH solution, that is, over 12, was obtained in fine particle.cle.e.
For the development of reformation material of soft ground using the LD slag, the relation to the particle condition of LD slag and the pH behavior of slag dissolution water, extraction properties of slag, and origination of white water were investigated. When the LD slag is mixed with sea water, the pH of solution ranged between 9.47 and 10.0. On the other hand, when mixed with distilled water, the pH was about 10.4 to 12.1. For the as-received slag and the aged slag in sea water, a pH of 11.5 to 12.0 was observed when the particle size was less than 0.5mm. For the reoxidized slag in seawater, the pH of the solution was lower than 9.5 when the particle size was bigger than 0.075mm. For the aged slag and reoxidized slag, the pH of the solution remained constant when the addition ratio of sea water to the slag was higher than 500 times. The main elements dissolved from the slag were Ca and Mg ions. When the pH went over 9.0, the white water started to font which was caused by the CaCO$_3$and Mg(OH)$_2$.

LD slag, that is, a by-product of steel making process, has been mainly used as land construction materials. Recently, the seashore application of LD slag was tried in Japan and Korea but the reaction between LD slag and seawater was not studied yet. We tried to clarify the leaching reaction and/or mechanism of LD slag and the reaction between seawater and LD slag. We tried to apply these results to the decarbonization of seawater for seawater magnesia process. The high pH solution(over 12) was injected into the sea water and the pH of mixed liquid was adjusted to 9.8. This mixed solution was aged for 8 hours and the 104ppm of CO$_3$$^{-2}$ in the sea water was decreased to 23ppm with the negligible loss of $Mg^2$$^{+}$. The slag particle was directly inserted into the seawater fur practical application. The 0.5~1mm particles were suitable for decarbonization when 5 grade slags mentioned above were reacted with sea water. In this case, the content of CO$_3$$^{-2}$ in the sea water was 53 ppm with the negligible loss of $Mg^2$$^{+}$ after 8 hours aging. The direct application of slag particle fur the decarbonization of seawater takes more reaction time.ime.
Smelting reduction technique in arc furnace was applied for the recovery of valuable metal such as V from LD slag. In the present study, the parameters for increasing the reduction rate and the reduction efficiency were selected by changing the oxide additives, melting temperature and basicity. The optimum condition for LD-slag reduction was achieved by $Al_2$$O_3$ addition. The reduction ratio of V was increased in increasing the basicity.
We smelted thc pellets made by mixing the distilled carbon from wlISte Lires, LD converter dust and slag with reduction process in the revcrberatory furnace. Thc obtained results are as follows 1) The removal mte of zinc appears above 97% after T reducing the pellets at $1300^{\circ}C$ for Ihr and the zinc content in the residue are 0.1~D.2%. 2) Under the mixing condition of 500 g LD dust. 150-200 g LD slag and 30-50 g distilled carbon of waste lires the removal raho of zinc shows above 95%, while t the 50-60% Fe remains in the residue. 3) After smelting at $1350^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs, the recovery ratio of pig iron reduced from lhe p pellets containing 15-20% LD slag and 4.1-7.2% distilled carbon of waste tires appears in the range of 89.3-92%. 4) Tbe c chemical composition of the recovered pig iron is 1.7%C, O.05%P, 0.05%S and balance Fe. 5) Tbe recovered dust from the d dust collcctor alter finishing the reduction rcaction appears as a crude zinc oxide conLaining 60% zinc.

This study evaluated the availability as an alternative adsorbent which is cheaper and more efficient than CuO/${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$ which have been studing vigorously to remove $SO_2$. Five adsorbents (CuO/${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$, Iron ore, Slag, LD slag, $Fe_2O_3$) was employed in a fixed bed reactor. $SO_2$ breakthrough curves were obtained as a function of temperature, initial gas velocity and particle size. Saturation capacities calculated by the numerical integration of breakthrough curves of $SO_2$ increased with increasing reaction temperature. $SO_2$ breakthrough curve equation of $Fe_2O_3$ for this system can be expressed as Kr=3,914,000 exp(-37,329.86/RT). By means of the breakthrough curve, the influence of bed height on breakthrough time was also estimated.

Because of the important role LD converters play in the production of high quality steel, various dynamic models have been attempted in the past by many researchers not only to understand the complex chemical reactions that take place in the converter process but also to assist the converter operation itself using computers. And yet no single dynamic model was found to be completely satisfactory because of the complexity involved with the process. The process indeed involves dynamic energy and mass balances at high temperatures accompanied by complex chemical reactions and transport phenomena in the molten state. In the present study, a mathematical model describing the dynamic behavior of LD converter process has been developed. The dynamic model describes the time behavior of the temperature and the concentrations of chemical species in the hot metal bath and slag. The analysis was greatly facilitated by dividing the entire process into three zones according to the physical boundaries and reaction mechanisms. These three zones were hot metal (zone 1), slag (zone 2) and emulsion (zone 3) zones. The removal rate of Si, C, Mn and P and the rate of Fe oxidation in the hot metal bath, and the change of composition in the slag were obtained as functions of time, operating conditions and kinetic parameters. The temperature behavior in the metal bath and the slag was also obtained by considering the heat transfer between the mixing and the slag zones and the heat generated from chemical reactions involving oxygen blowing. To identify the unknown parameters in the equations and simulate the dynamic model, Hooke and Jeeves parttern search and Runge-Kutta integration algorithm were used. By testing and fitting the model with the data obtained from the operation of POSCO #2 steelmaking plant, the dynamic model was able to predict the characteristics of the main components in the LD converter. It was possible to predict the optimum CO gas recovery by computer simulation
Although slag has an enough potential as the secondary resources due to its high content of iron, quite a large amount of slags are simply landfilled when market prices of iron and steel are not so beneficial. The purpose of this study is to investigate the basic characteristics regarding the recovery of iron content from slag by magnetic separation method for the enhancement of its recycling rate. Three kinds of slags such as blast furnace slag, water-cooled converter slag, and air-cooled converter slag were tested taking the strength of magnetic field, revolving speed of drum, and feeding rate of slag as the influential factors on the magnetic separation. For blast furnace slag, the recovery of iron was observed to increase as drum speed and feeding rate were lowered. For water-cooled converter slag, iron recovery was raised as feeding rate was increased and drum speed was lowered. Also, finer slag particles were observed to be more favorable for the higher recovery of iron content. Regarding air-cooled converter slags, higher iron recovery was accomplished when both feeding rate and drum speed were increased or decreased. In addition, when the magnetic field strength was increased the iron recovery was raised, however, the iron grade of separated product was observed to diminish because of the co-separation of impurities.

There have been many studies about the chemical corrosion of converter's refractories. However, few studies have been reported for the stress corrosion induced by the weight of the refractories and by the two bottom shape models designed for the converter. In this study, the stress distributions of the two converter models were analyzed by FEM. Model 1 has the step edge shape and model 2 has the round edge shape. Simulation results show that model 2 of round bottom edge has higher gravitational stress just below the slag line than the model 1. Model 2 is considered to suffers more serious corrosion than model 1 during the middle working stage by the thermal and chemical factors.
