  • Interrupted creep tests for investigating the structural degradation during creep were conducted for a Mod.9Cr-1Mo steel in the range of stress from 71 to 167 MPa and temperature from 873 to 923 K. The change of hardness and tempered martensitic lath width was measured in grip and gauge parts of interrupted creep specimens. The lath structure was thermally stable in static conditions. However, it was not stable during creep, and the structural change was enhanced by creep strain. The relation between the change in lath width and creep strain was described quantitatively. The change in Vickers hardness was expressed by a single valued function of creep LCR(life consumption ratio). Based on the empirical relation between strain and lath width, a model was proposed to describe the relation between change in hardness and creep LCR. The comparison of the model with the empirical relation suggests that about 65% of hardness loss is due to the decrease of dislocation density accompanied by the movement of lath boundaries. The role of precipitates on subboundaries was discussed in connection with the abnormal subgrain growth appearing in low stress regime.

  • Mechanically deformed cartilage undergoes a temperature dependent phase transformation resulting in reshaping of cartilage. Laser-assisted cartilage reshaping (LCR) is recently introduced to recreate the underlying cartilage framework in structures such as ear, larynx, trachea, and nose. However, this procedure has not been fully supported by confirmed efficacy because of the lack of scientific research and its safety issues. The purpose of this study is to evaluate current laser sources to determine optimal laser wavelength for LCR using mathematical simulations and investigate optical, thermo-mechanical, and backscattering properties of cartilage after laser irradiation. The results showed that 1444 nm wavelength was effective for reshaping of cartilage with minimal thermal damage in the surrounded tissues by monte carlo simulations. Analysis of bend angle changes, thermo-mechanical characteristics, and backscattered properties may be useful to better identify the biophysical transformation responsible for stress relaxation in cartilage and develop an optical feedback control methodologies.

  • This study investigated the various physical and electrical effects of silicon direct bonding. Direct bonding means the joining of two wafers together without an intermediate layer. If the surfaces are flat, and made clean and smooth using HF treatment to remove the native oxide layer, they can stick together when brought into contact and form a weak bond depending on the physical forces at room temperature. An IR camera and acoustic systems were used to analyze the voids and bonding conditions in an interface layer during bonding experiments. The I-V and C-V characteristics are also reported herein. The capacitance values for a range of frequencies were measured using a LCR meter. Direct wafer bonding of silicon is a simple method to fuse two wafers together; however, it is difficult to achieve perfect bonding of the two wafers. The direct bonding technology can be used for MEMS and other applications in three-dimensional integrated circuits and special devices.

  • This paper describes the measurement and analysis of the basic line constants in PLC(Power Line Communication) in the residential building. An apartment is considered as one of the conventional residences to get the line constants in this paper, Agilent 4263B LCR Meter is used to measure the detailed values each area and the specific results and averaged analysis data are shown in the tables. The measured results are a little bit different from the calculated values using conventional formula due to the line arrangement, neglected factors, complex permittivity, and etc. This paper describes many kinds of lines and wiring figures of domestic construction. It can be utilized with the analyzed line characteristics in frequency domain as a planning reference of PLC.

  • This paper describes the analysis results of channel characteristics in the operating area of satellite OTM (On-The-Move) terminal. The communication channel between the Koreasat-5 and OTM terminal on a test car was measured and recorded in downtown of Daejeon, using the received beacon signal of around 20 GHz. And the measurement data were statistically analyzed and then compared with highway and national road environments. The statistical evaluation of satellite channel was conducted by using probability density function and Markov model and then presented average connection duration(ACD), average fade duration(AFD), and level crossing rate(LCR) of downtown environment.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of remote engineering laboratory using the internet. Recently, various virtual laboratories are introduced using the multimedia technologies but the internet laboratory using the real hardware system is not present. In this study, we developed the remote engineering laboratory by combining the GPIB program which controls the hardwares with the web programming which controls the internet. The function generator, LCR meter, and oscilloscope were considered as the measurement devices. The client program includes the user-interface which carry out experiment remotely. Several electrical experiments were set up to verify the experimental process. It has been found that the remote engineering experiments are feasible and valid. The methodologies will be discussed in detail.

  • Influence of the adaptors on the calibration of $100{\mu}H$ inductance standard was studied as a function of torque, applied when tightening the standard inductor terminal with the adaptor. Two different homemade adaptors of BPO gold-plated brass (BPO-Au) and banana-copper (BN-Cu) were made for the connection between the LCR meter and the inductance standard. The measured inductance (L) of the standard inductor and the contact resistance ($R_C$) between the adaptor and the standard inductor terminal showed exponential decreases against the torque increase from $25cN{\cdot}m$ to $150cN{\cdot}m$. The measured L and the calculated equivalence series resistance ($R_S$) were dependent on the adaptor type as well as on the $R_C$. The results of the adaptor analysis imply that the BPO-Au adaptor with the lower $R_C$ is more suitable for the inductance calibration. The calculated inductance of $99.956{\mu}H$ corrected by subtraction of the adaptor inductance and the contact resistance contributions from the measured value using the BPO-Au adaptor agreed well with the certificate ($99.948{\mu}H$) of the PTB within the measurement uncertainty of $140{\mu}H/H$.

  • Short-term fading in a mobile radio channel is mainly caused by multipath reflected wave by local scatterers or natural obstacles surrounding a mobile unit. In this paper, we analyze probability density function(PDF), level crossing rate(LCR) and widths and depths of fades for the measured field strength data in Seoul and Daejeon areas. As a result, the satatistical distribution of signal variations within any small area with the constant mean value becomes the Rayleigh distribution The variation of fade depths is small regardless of the environment such as urban, suburban. etc. However, the variation of fade widths is large with the change of circumstantial structures and environment. the maximum level crossing rate is obtained near the mean value.

  • Information of the maximum Doppler frequency enable to optimize many channel-adaptive techniques and radio resource management methods for mobile radio communication systems. In this paper, we propose two maximum Doppler frequency estimators which are based on the level crossing rate(LCR) and the covariance function (COV). To eliminate the effect of additive noise, we analyze the conditions for the estimators independent of the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and implement the conditions with a simple downsampling process. The proposed methods achieve good SNR-independent performance.
