Environmental Impact Assessment of Agricultural Water Facilities using LCA Technique (전과정평가(LCA)기법을 이용한 농업수리시설의 환경영향 분석)

  • 저수지와 양수장은 우리나라에서 용수공급면적기준으로 전체 공급량의 78%를 차지하는 중요한 용수 공급시설이다. 본 연구의 목적은 저수지와 양수장의 환경영향을 LCA기법을 이용해 비교 분석함으로써 두 시설들의 환경영향을 정량적으로 평가하는데 있다. 연구대상 수리시설로서 경기도 안성에 위치한 이동저수지와 은산양수장을 선정하여 각각에 대하여 농업수리시설의 전과정평가를 실시하였다. 평가를 위하여 네덜란드 Pre사가 개발한 소프트웨어 Simapro 7.1를 이용하였다. 두 시설에 대한 원료물질 취득 단계부터 건설, 운영, 유지관리 및 폐기단계까지 전과정의 환경영향을 분석한 결과, 두 종류의 시설 설치에 따른 토지이용, 상 하류의 생태적 영향 등이 고려되지 않았지만 저수지에 의한 농업용수 공급이 양수장에 의한 용수 공급보다 환경친화적이라고 볼 수 있다. 저수지의 경우 건설단계의 환경영향이 크고, 양수장의 경우, 운영단계에 환경영향이 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 단계별로 환경영향은 저수지는 건설단계에 건설재료 예를 들어 레미콘, 시멘트 등이 환경부하를 크게 발생시키기 때문이고, 양수장은 이용 단계에서 용수공급을 위한 전력사용에서 기인하는데, 이는 전력생산시 화석연료와 같은 자원소비가 많기 때문이다. 이번 연구는 토목시설물중 농업 용수 공급시설의 전과정에서 환경영향을 종합적으로 평가하는데 LCA가 활용되었다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 향후 하드웨어적인 시설뿐만 아니라 농업용수 공급에 따른 전과정평가를 수행하고, 농업용수 LCI D/B 구축에 기초자료를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

Location Tracking Compensation Algorithm for Route Searching of Docent Robot in Exhibition Hall (전시장 도슨트 로봇의 경로탐색을 위한 위치추적 보정 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, a location tracking compensation algorithm based on the Least-Squares Method ($LCA_{LSM}$) was proposed to improve the autonomous tracking efficiency for the docent robot in exhibition hall, and the performance of the $LCA_{LSM}$ is analyzed by several practical experiments. The proposed $LCA_{LSM}$ compensates the collected location coordinates for the robot using the Least-Squares Method (LSM) in order to reduce the cumulated errors that occur in the Encoder/Giro sensor (E/G) and to enhance the measured tracking accuracy rates in the autonomous tracking of the robot in exhibition hall. By experiments, it was confirmed that the average error reduction rates of the $LCA_{LSM}$ are higher as 4.85% than that of the $LCA_{KF}$ in Scenario 1 (S1) and Scenario 2 (S2), respectively on the location tracking. In addition, it was also confirmed that the standard deviation in the measured errors of the $LCA_{LSM}$ are much more low and constant compared to that of the E/G sensor and the $LCA_{KF}$ in S1 and S2 respectively. Finally, we see that the suggested $LCA_{LSM}$ can execute more the stabilized location tracking than the E/G sensors and the $LCA_{KF}$ on the straight lines of S1 and S2 for the docent robot.

A Comparative Study on the Environmental Impacts Potential Estimations from Korean Nuclear Power Generation Using LCA (LCA를 통한 국내 원전의 환경영향 평가 수행사례 비교)

  • 본 연구에서는 환경경영의 중요한 수단으로 대두되고 있는 전과정분석(Life Cycle Analysis; LCA)을 통해 원자력 발전기술을 평가한 주요 사례의 분석과정과 결과들을 비교하였다. 이는 선진국들이나 글로벌 선진기업들에서 채택하기 시작한 글로벌 환경친화성의 입증 요구 추세 속에서, 모든 재화의 생산에 전력은 필수 투입물이라는 점에서 그 중요성을 감안하여 수행되었다. 본 연구에서는 국내 전력의 40% 이상 공급을 담당하고 있는 원자력발전 기술을 중심으로 비교하였다. 우리나라의 대표적인 연구를 간 비교 결과 그 값의 차이는 최대 10^5 정도에 이르러, 이는 외국의 경우 10^1 수준의 차이를 보이는 데 비해 다소 많은 것으로 조사되었다. 이러한 차이는 사례에 따라 모형의 단순화 정도에 기인한 것으로 판단되며, 이는 전력의 타산업 기반성이나 국내 전력LCA 분석능력의 함양이 중요하다는 점에 비추어 시급히 개선되어야 할 것이라 제안한다.

  • As worldwide efforts to reduce global warming gases, the construction Industry is endeavoring to diminish carbon dioxides emissions. Especially, by introducing the LCA methodology to the industry, A variety of related studies to measure the emission of carbon dioxides have been conducted. However, when the conventional LCA methodology is applied to the construction projects, some limitations have been reported. To overcome the restrictions derived from the industry characteristics, this research suggested the Activity-based LCA model by applying the Activity-based Costing (ABC), which breaks down the whole life cycles into more detailed stages. By implementing the newly developed model, forecasting accuracy of $CO_2$ emission was elevated, and the critical control points on carbon dioxides were established. Through the case study of aluminium curtain-wall system, this research verified the usefulness of the Activity-based LCA.

  • Bridges which are components of road network consume large amounts of resources such as concrete and steel materials, which have large environmental impacts during construction. This causes a great environmental burden. In order to reduce the environmental impact caused by the construction of the bridge, the environmental impact should be reviewed based on reasonable data in the early design stage. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for LCA-based environmental impact assessment in the process of selecting bridge type in the early design stage. For this purpose, design data for four types of PSC bridges (general PSC girder, IPC girder, e-Beam, DR girder) were collected and LCA was performed to analyze the basic unit value and impact factors of environmental load. The results of the analysis showed that the environmental impact of IPC girder was the smallest, and the environmental impact of e-Beam was 133.7% higher than that of IPC girder. In addition, concrete, reinforcement, PC strand, square timber, sheath pipe, and steel plate were derived as the main factors that generate 98.5% of the overall environmental impact of PSC girder.

The inventory analysis on exhaust gas from training ships for ship's LCA study (선박 전과정평가를 위한 실습선 배기가스 인벤토리 분석)

  • As the seriousness of the global environment is gaining our attention recently, studies on application of LCA(Life Cycle Assessment) to ship are being carried dynamically in various industry fields. However domestic study on LCA was not carried out in various fields. This study was carried out to examine the application of LCA to ship and was focused on the ship operation inventory analysis especially in life cycle assessment. Two training ships of Mokpo maritime university were adopted as ship models. Actual voyage data of at last several years was used to analysis the ship's exhaust gas inventory. The analysis shows how many weight of gas being exhaused per 1 gross tonnage and per 1 trainee in the training ships.

  • To control manage environmental load during construction work, it is required to ascertain an accurate quantity for materials those are using during the construction. In construction industrial nowadays, especially on design part, there are lots of mistakes occurred on quantity take-off between plan documents and actual work. That mistakes are caused by omission of design items, overcount because of interference each materials or simple calculate error. Besides, in case of a construction project, engineers are impossible to design perfectly due to a lot of invalid variable in a construction site. Thus, design errors and changes occur frequently in the process of construction work or design due to such unclear elements. And in case of LCA assessment based on 2D design, there is difficult for an engineer who is in charge to calculate the volume of materials manually using drawings and relevant specifications. This study is aimed for examining and verifying a high reliable method of evaluating environmental load which is useful in construction process through comparing LCA analysis. In addition, this study provides the method of calculating the volume of materials and LCA assessment in working on the basis of 2D design, using the specifications which is used for LCA evaluation, and possibility of utilizing the LCA assessment by introducing BIM design technic to improve the former problem through comparing and analyzing the previous method with 3D-based evaluation process.

An Analysis of the Characteristics of Environmental Impact for PSC Beam Bridges using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA 기반 PSC 교량의 환경부하 특성분석에 대한 연구)

  • This study aims to analyze characteristics of environmental load for the construction phase of PSC beam bridge based on Life Cycle Assessment. For detail computation of environmental load, the construction materials and energy consumption are derived from the BOQ, also connecting with environmental load by Korea LCI Database Information Network. The characteristic of environmental impact was analyzed by 25 cases and cut-off ratio was 80% to 94%. The result sorted by construction materials revealed that environmental load were 53.3% for ready-mixed concrete, 9.6% for wire rod, 7.8% for rebar, 6.8% for cement, 5.5% for plywood, and 5.2% for energy. Furthermore, the result of environmental impact revealed that 45.5% for global warming, 30.4% for abiotic resources depletion, 10.5% for human toxicity, and 8.9% for photochemical oxidant creation. In the future, we can make a decision considering environmental load based on LCA at design phase.

  • This paper analyses the environmental effect of 100kw PV system installed in Tibet using Life Cycle Assessment(LCA). Then, energy payback time(EPT) and life-cycle $CO_2$ emission rate are estimated based on life-cycle of the PV system. As a result of the estimation, 6 year of EPT and 20 g-C/kWh of $CO_2$ emission rate are obtained. In China, average $CO_2$ emission rate of fossil fuel power generation plant is 260 g-C/kWh. This shows that PV system would be very promising for global environmental issues. For advanced LCA, we need to collect detailed and various data about raw material of PV system.
