  • We made a simplified eddy-current-tester, and observed some materials for the ingredients and mass and locations. The tester detects the current as frequency shifts of a LC-resonance circuit, which are caused by the eddy currents. Using air-wick coil and a multi-piled ceramic capacitor, we made a resonance system whose frequency was 100KHz. The shift quantity is few; so, to detect it, we used a frequency counter, and counted the shift. We can detect 10Hz order's shift.

  • Chemical investigation of a marine-derived fungus, Penicillium sp. 108YD020, resulted in the discovery of six bile acid derivatives, glycocholic acid (1), glycocholic acid methyl ester (2), cholic acid (3), glycochenodeoxycholic acid (4), glycodeoxycholic acid methyl ester (5), and cholic acid methyl ester (6). The structures of six bile acid derivatives 1-6 were determined by the detailed analysis of 1D, 2D NMR and LC-MS data, along with chemical methods and literature data analysis.

  • This paper proposes a simple active damping algorithm for small-scale wind power systems with an LCL filter. Compared to an L filter or an LC filter, an LCL filter can decrease the harmonics induced by low switching frequencies and produce a satisfactory grid-side current using a comparatively low inductance. Additional active damping of the filter resonance is necessary when an LCL filter is used. This paper introduces an active damping method using a Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) filter to improve performance without additional sensors or complexity. Experimental results are shown to verify the validity of the proposed algorithm as an active damping method.

  • In this paper, we represent characteristics and equivalent circuit of donut type resonator of defected ground structure (DGS), and can control resonant frequency with chip capacitor. In General, DGS operates like with parallel LC resonator. We found out variation of resonance frequency when capacitor is placed on slot of DGS. If the chip capacitor replace with varactor diode, the resonance frequencies can be controlled by voltage. This tualable resonator can apply to voltage controlled oscillator and tunable bandpass filter.

  • This paper presents a high frequency modulation electronic ballast for the metal halide lamp. As the proposed ballast operates in high frequency ranges (20kHz - 100kHz) and it can start up the lamp using the LC resonant circuit without external igniter, the proposed ballast is very compact. The proposed ballast is controlled with the modulated frequency in the range of 20kHz to 100kHz, and it has variable modulating frequencies between 200Hz and 2kHz in order to avoid the acoustic resonance phenomenon. In this paper, a new realtime acoustic resonance detection method is described and the experimental results with the proto-type ballast of 150W metal halide lamp with the dimming function are discussed.

  • This paper describes an optimal design method of VSI output filter for CVCF system. The cost function is used for design, and all parameters are described in p.u(per unit) so that can be adapted to the change of CVCF rating. The capacitor current feedback scheme is proposed to control the damping ratio of the filter plant to meet the system more stable. This means that the LC resonance can be suppressed well in transient condition and can use the same control gains under the change of system capacity. The validity of the proposed method is well verified with the theoretical analysis and simulation results.

  • Backgrounds/Aims: Bile duct stones (BDS) can be managed either prior to laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) or with laparoscopic bile duct exploration (LBDE) at the time of LC. The latter is underutilised. The aim of this study was to use the dataset of the previously performed CholeS study to investigate LBDE hospital volumes, LBDE-to-LC rates, and LBDE outcomes. Methods: Data from 166 United Kingdom/Republic of Ireland hospitals were used to study the utilisation of LBDE in LC patients. Results: Of 8,820 LCs performed, 932 patients (10.6%) underwent preoperative ERCP and 256 patients (2.9%) underwent LBDE. Of the 256 patients who underwent LBDE, 73 patients (28.5%) had undergone prior ERCP and 112 patients (43.8%) had undergone prior magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography. Fifteen (9.0%) of the 166 included hospitals performed less than five LBDEs in the two-month study period. LBDEs were mainly performed by upper gastrointestinal surgeons (84.4%) and colorectal surgeons (10.0%). Eighty-seven percent of the LBDEs were performed by consultants and 13.0% were performed by trainees. The laparoscopic-to-open conversion rate was 12.5%. The median operation time was 111 minutes (range: 75-155 minutes). Median hospital stay was 6 days (range: 4-11 days) for emergency LBDEs and 1 day (range: 1-4 days) for elective LBDEs. Overall morbidity was 21.5%. Bile leak rate was 5.3%. Thirty-day readmission and mortality rates were 12.1% and 0.4%, respectively. Conclusions: The single-stage approach to managing BDS was underutilised. An additional prospective study with a longer study period is needed to verify this finding.

  • The demand of a three phase PWM inverter for the purpose of power control or grid-connecting is increasing. This inverter is connected to a grid through an L-filter or LCL-filter to reduce the harmonics caused by switching. An LCL-filter can reduce the harmonic of a low switching frequency and generate a satisfactory level of grid side current with a relatively low-inductance than an L-filter. But the additional poles caused by the LC part affects a stability problem due to induced resonance of the system. This paper presents a compensation method using a power theory to improve performance, the designed LCL-filter system and to reduce the stability problems caused by resonance. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by simulations.
