The comparison of 80 items in physical measurements between the Korean women in their 60's living in Russia and China resulted in the differences in 57 items. While the height items including stature between them showed negligible differences, most of the length items relating to width, thickness, circumference, and obesity showed differences, which were big. 2. The analysis by using the physical measurements showed the differences in the number of the elements constituting the body types of the Korean women in their 60's, as 13 for those living in Russia and 11 for those living in China. 3. The cluster analysis for the comparison of the body types of each group, by categorizing the body types, produced three types for both groups. Koreans living in Russia were grouped as those with the short stature and light weight, the medium stature and medium weight, and the tall stature and heavy weight. Koreas living in China were classified as those with the short stature and medium weight, the tall stature and light weight, and the tall stature and heavy weight.

This study examined the dwellings of Korean Diaspora in Yunhaju through reviewing related documents and records firstly and had a time to visit places which Koreans lived since 1860's for example Posyet(equation omitted), Suifen(equation omitted), Ussuriisk(equation omitted), Vladivostok(equation omitted), Partizansk(equation omitted) and took interviews with Koreans who lived there pre 1930's. Results of research were as following : 1) A first place to settle down for Koreans in Yunhaju was Posye(equation omitted) and scattered as time goes by far away from there. 2) Koreans were helping each other for living and they had their own self managing organizations in village there. 3) The villages which was made in Yunhaju by Koreans in the beginning were similar to traditional ones in Korea. 4) It was verified that dwellings which was built by Koreans in Yunhaju were similar to ones in north area in Korea. At that time lots of Korean Diaspora came from north part and they kept their own traditional way of building houses there for a long time. 5) Korean Diaspora have been kept traditional heating system ‘Ondol’ in their various types of houses until now in Yunhaju. Moreover, it is known that Russians prefer to set ‘Ondol’ in their houses recently as a very special and expensive heating system. This study would be a very good opportunity to standing out Korean history of housing in Yunhaju as well as evaluating their identification as Koreans. For this, it is needed to take more deep research in specific areas which could see more various types of housing and could compare ones between two countries.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the fitness of clothes by producing patterns considering body proportions at a time of producing clothes for export through extracting factors comprising body types and conducting comparative analysis of proportions by body part using body indexes of Korean women in their 20s living in both Korea and foreign countries. The study results are as follows. Factor analysis by group was conducted for body indexes in order to examine body types of Koreans living overseas. As a results, six factors were extracted from all of three groups; Joseonjok(Koreans living in China), Goryeoin(Koreans living in Russia) and Korean residents in Japan, and their explanatory powers were 60.42%, 63.62%, 63.15%, respectively. Obesity factor was extracted as the 1st factor, and the groups showed differences in other factors. As a result of proportion comparison using body indexes of Koreans living in foreign countries and Korea, it was found that, in height item, when regarding the height as 100, the length of the lower part of the body was long in the order of Goryeoin. Joseonjok, Koreans living in Korea and Korean residents in Japan. Also in width item, when regarding the waist as a standard, it was observed that Joseonjok people have the shoulders, the breasts and the hips that look relatively wider comparing with the width of the waists because they have very narrow waists and the width between shoulder length is big. In addition, the study examined proportions of the breast thickness/the breast width, the waist thickness/the waist width, the hip thickness/the hip width to height. From the analysis, it was found that breasts of Koreans living in Korea are flattest while their waists are slender, and Goryeoin and Joseonjok have round body shapes from the waist to the breast.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of generation on the traditional food culture of Uzbekistan-Koreans. The generation of Uzbekistan-Koreans was divided into two groups i.e., the second and third generation. The second generation suffered from the compulsory emigration during 1930s because of the minority racial breakup policy by the Soviet Russia. The third generation was born after the compulsory emigration and the economic condition was much better for them. In terms of identifying traditional food culture, generation was an important factor because each generation had different social environments and different life styles. Data were collected from 634 Koreans living in Uzbekistan and analyzed by chi-square and correlation analysis. The results of this study revealed that the impact of generation was an important factor regarding the traditional food culture. Chi-square analysis showed that factors related to making a menu, food priority, and consideration of the person preparing the food were likely to vary depending on the generation. Also, reasons for preferring traditional food and preparing foods for family events as well as national holidays were different between the second and the third generation. The second generation preferred traditional food because of flavor, while the third generation preferred traditional food because of nutrition. For family events and national holidays such as New Year's Day, the second generation was more likely to prepare traditional foods than the third generation. The correlation analysis indicated that the relationship between preference and intake frequency of traditional foods was positively related, and the degree of correlation was higher for the second than the third generation. Similarities and differences between generations were discussed, and implications for food and nutrition specialists and food marketers were provided.
