  • There has been much concern and worry about executing school curriculum from the year 2000 because the seventh curriculum is based on the complicated' differentiated education' concept. Now the new textbook has been developed according to the curriculum. This paper will reinforce the understanding of the curriculum and textbook in school math. In order to do this, this paper will present questions on three subjects to help school teachers and people related to math education to probe and discuss the benefits and problems of teaching math using the new textbook. The three subjects are based on the contents included in certain chapters of the math textbook. These are 1) understanding mathematics concepts using manipulatives or concrete objects, 2) doing math projects or problem solving activities 3) learning mathematics using calculators. furthermore, it is emphasized in this paper that math teachers must keep in mind that they should execute instruction in their own way using the 'textbook' not as a bible but as a guideline.

  • Since 2022, textbooks in elementary school mathematics have been converted from national textbook system to authorization system, but it is pointed out that the composition of these new textbooks is almost the same as the existing national textbooks and the advantages of the authorization system cannot be utilized. Therefore a need has been raised to find out the composition of foreign textbooks. In order to compare the internal system of elementary mathematics textbook composition in Korea and Japan, Wakuwaku Sansu, one of Japan's elementary mathematical textbooks was analyzed and compared with Korean textbooks. As a result of the analysis, it was found that Japanese textbooks have more flexibility in the composition of the unit, the number of hours of the unit, the introduction of special lessons, and emphasis. This analysis will promote the diversity and creativity of the composition of elementary mathematics textbooks in Korea, providing implications for more efficient textbook compilation.

  • We conducted an empirical study with 8 middle school students in Korea to investigate the usability and usefulness of our self-designed Digital Textbook. The Stimulated Recall (SR) Method using Morae software was utilized to analyze the learners' task behaviors and mental operations while using the Digital Textbook to learn English. Collected qualitative data indicated several problems in terms of the usability and usefulness of the Digital Textbook. The findings are summarized and some implications are discussed for further revision of the Digital Textbook and validation of the SR method as a usability-usefulness test tool.

  • Science textbooks which were compiled by CHOSUN Government General are known as books which appeared after 'Science Textbook for Common School' (1923-) compiled by CHOSUN Government General which are almost similar to state authorized textbooks and are also known as leaving the effect on 'Science Textbook for Elementary School' (1931-) which were focused on the subjects being issued since then and 'Science Text for Elementary Course' (1942-) being compiled by the Education Ministry, However in this research it was found out that there were publications in 1911, 1913 and 1921 and they were harbingers for 'Science Textbook for Elementary School' 0931-). For this reason it was decided to report overall picture on the science textbooks being compiled by CHOSUN Government General. And it was possible to illustrate that such textbooks can be classified into following 5 periods ; The 1st period:The time for search--'Science Textbook for Students of Common school' 1911 compiled by CHOSUN Government General. The 2nd period:Commencing separate compilation--'Science Textbook for Common School' 1913 compiled by CHOSUN Government General. (The 2'nd period:Final Separate Compilation-- Reissue after corrections of 'Science Textbook for Common School' compiled by CHOSUN Government General, 1921.) The 3rd period:Same as the state authorized science textbook of Japan--' Science Textbook for Common School' compiled by CHOSUN Government General, totally 3 books 1923-. The 4th period:Separate compilation, centered on subjects--'Science Textbook for Elementary School' compiled by CHOSUN Government General, 1931-. (The 4'th period:Changers of subjects--'Science Text for Elementary School' compiled by CHOSUN Government General, 1937-. The 5th period:Matched to compiled by the Education Ministry--'Observation of Nature' compiled by CHOSUN Government General, 1942-'Science Text for Elementary School'(Writing laterally) 1943-.

  • Geography textbooks and atlases are typical printed materials broadly used in the classroom and the public education as certified materials. The students' atlas, as supplementary materials, is useful in teaching and learning geography in the classroom. This study examines and evaluates the supplementary role of the students' atlas in the institutional and pedagogical perspectives. The textbook and the atlas were written by different writers and publishers based on the interpretation of the geography curriculum, the pedagogical beliefs and interests. The textbook is submitted to be certificated by Ministry of Education. Then the textbook and the atlas which is passed in the certification process can be distributed to schools to use in the classroom. Most maps and materials are supplied in the textbook and the atlas variously depended on the authors' interpretation of geography curriculum, which are designed complementally. But, that maps and materials of respective book of even different author are similar and duplicated. Sometimes maps and materials of textbook and atlas are independent, not mutual complement. It needed that geography textbook and student's atlas take a efficient role supplementarily in these certification system of textbook.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to extend the knowledge about the textbook, Public Health Nursing Textbook (in Korean, Gongjungwisaeng Kanhohak) which is published in 1933 by the Nurses' Association of Korea. Methods: Public Health Nursing Textbook was investigated from the cover page to the last page and compared with two original books and other nursing books published in modern Korea. Results: Public Health Nursing Textbook was the forth published Korean nursing textbook and the first published Korean public health nursing textbook. Rosenberger, a missionary nurse from USA, Lee Keumjeon, Korean public health nurse who studied in Canada, and other Koreans were in charge of translation, etc. It is a user - friendly book written mainly in Korean (Hangul) with Chinese characters and included the English table of contents, preface and back cover. Most of its contents were extracted and translated from two original books, one is Public Health Nursing by Mary Gardner and the other is Personal Hygiene Applied by Jesse Williams. It is worth noting that the book not only introduced the public health nurses's activities across the country, but also focused on the information necessary for common health problems at that time. Conclusion: From the Public Hygiene and Nursing, it can be seen that public health nurses had been independently educated since Imperial Japan's colonial period, and public health nursing was growing as a independent field in Korea.

  • This paper analyzed the effect of using a content-based English textbook in teaching English to Korean college students. The textbook reflected the recent trend in EFL/ESL development that subject matters should be taught as part of the language instruction. The analysis of the questionnaire survey conducted to college students at the end of the semester revealed an encouraging result that this new type of ELT college textbook is effective in helping Korean college students prepare for learning their subject areas through English. Based on this positive outcome, a suggestion is made that the current general purpose college English teaching curriculum be shifted toward a content-based specific purpose type to accommodate the increasing demand of learning subject areas through English in colleges in Korea.

Questionnaire sent to Home Economics teachers of 401 middle school selected by systematic random sapling, 233 questionnaire were received and 220 questionnaire were analyzed for this study. As a statistical tool, SPSSWIN was used to analyze frequency, mean, standard deviation, and factor analysis. The research findings were as follows ; 1. Now for kinds of Home Economics textbooks are mainly used. At that time when textbooks were selected, these selections were made upon deliberation with the teachers in charge and in future this method will be desirable. Most home economics teachers realize that the selection criteria is needed to improve the objectivity of textbook selection. 2. As a result of making factor analysis, the selection criteria were revised that 52 items in 7 categories were chosen as textbook criteria plan. They consist of 5 items related to the outward form of textbook, 5 items related to the learning materials in textbook, 10 items related to the composition of textbook units, 11 items related to the guiding contents of textbook, 7 items related to the subject of experiment.practice, 9 items related to the composition of picture, photograph and diagram. and 7 items related to the use of instructional-learning method.
