The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship of maternal factors such as knowledge, attitude and practice of weaning with infant feeding. The subjects were 103 mothers visiting a public health center in Gumi, Kyungbook who filled out self-administered Questionnaires. First of all, about $90\%$ of the participants recognized the importance of complementary foods and proper weaning practices. The response for the recognition of the importance of infant weaning process showed a significant difference by education levels. Concerning an appropriate time for the introduction of weaning foods, $53\%$ of mothers had commenced weaning at age $4\~6$ months, while $38\%$ had done so at age $6\~8$ months. Approximately $76\%$ of mothers fed their babies without the knowledge of age-related weaning method and type of weaning foods. There were no statistical differences in maternal weaning knowledges between levels of education and house income. Mothers with higher levels of education and family income tended to show high perception scores regarding possibility of food allergies caused by baby foods. A demand for reliable sources and education related to nutritious weaning foods and weaning practices were strong in the group with higher education. Knowledge of weaning method and baby foods were obtained by 59 of the 103 mothers from mass media, 35 from friends caring babies, and 9 obtained advice from health professionals or family. Advice from the heath professionals was not the main influence on their decision to introduce weaning foods. Although commercial baby foods are the most commonly used as first weaning foods, those with higher education groups considered commercial baby food are not nutritionally better than home-maid foods. The current findings suggest to us that to improve weaning process, mothers should be educated on the selection and preparation of nutritious, balanced weaning foods and on good weaning practices. It is advised that supportive health professionals from community public health centers should lead the education of infant feeding practices based on maternal characteristics and on basic food and nutritional knowledge.

This study was designed to evaluate the effect of Agaricus blazei $\beta-glucan$ and egg shell calcium complex on bone metabolism in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. Forty Sprague-Dewley female rats, 10 weeks of age $(248{\pm}1.7g)$, were divided into 4 groups and fed on the experimental diets for 6 weeks: sham operated control treated with normal diet containing 0.5% calcium (Sham-C), OVX-control treated with normal diet containing 0.5% calcium (OVX-C), $OVX-\beta-glucan$ group treated with $\beta-glucan$ diet containing 0.5% calcium (OVX-G), and $OVX-\beta-glucan$ egg shell calcium complex treated with $OVX-\beta-glucan$ egg shell calcium complex containing 0.5% calcium (OVX-GE). Bone weight of femur was higher in the OVX-GE group than in the other OVX groups. Bone mineral density of femur was significantly different (p<0.05) among the experimental groups and showed the highest level in the OVX-GE group. Calcium absorption rate and retention were higher in the $\beta-glucan$ supplement groups than in the other groups (p<0.05). Alkaline phosphatase activities and osteocalcin levels of serum showed lower in the $\beta-glucan$ supplement groups than in the OVX-C group. Deoxypyridinoline crosslink values of urine, indicator of bone absorption, showed the lowest in the OVX-GE group. The $\beta-glucan$ supplemented groups had a lower bone resorption ratio than in the OVX-C group. We concluded that bioavailability of calcium is higher in $\beta-glucan$ supplement groups compared to those in OVX rats. From the above results, these findings suggest the possibility of using $\beta-glucan$ egg shell calcium complex as a functional food material related to bone metabolism, even though there is no significant difference between the groups of $\beta-glucan$ and $\beta-glucan-egg$ shell calcium complex supplementation.
Introduction of the Special Account for Balanced National Development (SABND) which was represented top-down in 2005 have previous national budget distribution system between central and local government change. A local autonomous entities can choose freely the favorite programs within the total programs in SABND so they can use limited budget efficiently, After induction of this system, budget of the Forest Programs in SABND in 2006 compare to last year has increased by 24.5 percent. That is three times higher than the average rate of total SABND budget, 8.1 percent. This study surveyed propriety of the Forest Programs and hereafter their budget prospect with local government officials in forest sector, 68.7 percent of the respondents recognized that the inclusion of the Forest Programs in SABND is proper. The most preferred Forest Programs are making Urban Forests and their Management and making Facilities for Forest Recreation. And the most non-preferred Forest Programs are complementing the Lumberyard Facility of the Forestry Association, making the Exhibition of Wood Products and making the Base for the Seedling Production. When Forest Programs are adjusted in the future, these programs above mentioned should be exempted from the SABND. because the non-preferred programs as well as the small budget programs On the prospect of the future budget, 81.1 percent of the local government officials in forest sector answered that it will be the same with the current or increasing, In the short term, the budget of the Forest Program in SABND is expected to increase.

Raw oysters were treated at $10^{\circ}C$ and $22^{\circ}C/350$ Mpa/15 min, and microbial counts and quality were measured during storage of 14 days at $10^{\circ}C$. Total viable cell count (TVCC) in untreated oyster increased greatly during storage from starting inoculum of $1.6\times10^2\;CFU/mL$, and reached to $5.6\times10^2\;CFU/mL$ after 4 days of storage. TVCC of the pressure-treated was about $10^1\;CFU/mL$ right after high hydrostatic pressure treatment and increased slowly during storage, and about $10^3\;CFU/mL$ even after 7 days of storage. Lactic acid bacteria count (LABC) in the untreated was increased greatly during storage from starting inoculum of $3.3\times10^3\;CFU/mL$ at 3 days of storage and $7.2\times10^4\;CFU/mL$ after 4 days of storage. LABC in the pressure-treated was detected only after 5 days of storage, and about $10^2\;CFU/mL$ after 8 days of storage. The pH of the untreated was 6.19 and decreased gradually during storage, and 5.83 after 4 days of storage. The pH of the pressure-treated showed little change during storage, and 6.07, 6.03 and 5.82 after storage of 4, 8 and 14 days, respectively. Volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) in the untreated was 16.8 mg%, and maintained almost constant until 1 day of storage, and then increased suddenly, and 30.1 mg% after 4 days of storage. VBN of the pressure-treated stayed unchanged during storage, and about 20 and 23 mg% even after 4 and 8 days of storage, respectively. Hunter $L^*,\;a^*\;and\;b^*$ values were increased until 2 days of storage and then showed no change during storage. Demerit score was the lowest in the thawed raw oyster, and then in the increasing order of the pressure-treated (4 day and 8 day storage) and the untreated (4 day storage).
In afforestation of denuded forest land soil conditions play a very important role in early growth of cover vegetations. This study was designed for understanding the effect of soil moisture regime on growth and nutrient uptake of some seedlings. Cover vegetations such as Pinus rigida Miller, Robinia pseudoacacia L. and Lespedeza bicolor Turcz. were planted in pot with the soil transported from denuded forest land in Musu-ri Sannae-Myeon. Daedeog-Kun, Chungnam Province. There were 3 moisture treatments and 4 fertility levels in $P_2O_5$ with 4 replications. Influence on growth was observed by the variation in dry weight and nutrient uptake was studied in nitrogen, phosphate and kalium. Results are as follows: 1. For Pinus rigida seedlings decrease in soil moisture tension increases growth of dry weight and enhance the uptake of kalium. Increase in $P_2O_5$ fertility level tends to decrease the uptake of kalium rather than increase in $P_2O_5$ uptake. 2. In Robinia pseudoacacia increase in soil moisture content stimulates the uptake of nitrogen and kalium. Increase in $P_2O_5$ level enhances the uptake of $P_2O_5$ and increases growth of dry weight. 3. In Lespedeza bicolor increase in soil moisture content has a tendency of decrease in nitrogen uptake. Increase in $P_2O_5$ level increases the growth of dry weight as well as the uptake of $P_2O_5$.
This study was carried out for the purpose of supplying the basic data for artificial forestation, natural regeneration and ecological conservation etc., and obtaining information on alpine vegetation, by establishing vegetation units on the basis of phytosociological classification of community and studying growth pattern on the basis of species composition, hierarchy structure and population dynamics, for Taxes cuspidata naturally growing at the alpine districts in Korea. The importance value of Taxus cuspidata by districts mostly showed above 100 in the upper story but at Mt. Chiri and Mt. Hanra communities its value was comparatively low. In the middle story it showed lower value than that of upper story and not quite showed at Mt. Chiri. Taxus cuspidata communities in the lower story were only in Mt. Hanra, Mt. Odae and Mt. Sobaek, and their importance values were about 10 which were relatively low values. The communities were classified into five groups as Taxus cuspidata-Males baccata var. mandshurica, Taxus cuspidata-Abies nephrolepis, Taxus cuspidata-Abies koreana, Taxus cuspidata-Acer mono and Taxus cuspidata-Euonymus quelpaertensis by TWINSPAN analysis. Taxus cuspidata-Abies koreana community was distributed at the northern aspect of the mountain ridges and at higher elevation than other communities and distributed. Taxus cuspidata-Acer mono community was relatively low than the others and distributed at the hillsides of mountain. And Taxus cuspidata-Euonymus quelpaertensis communities were distributed at the relatively high elevation and northern and eastern aspect of the mountain tap, and Taxus cuspidata-Malus baccata var. mandshurica communities were distributed at the medium elevation, and southern and eastern aspect of the mountain ridge. In the relation between communities and environmental factors, it was correlated with aspect, elevation and topography at the first axis, and elevation, slope at the second axis.
This study was carried out to analyze the mechanical properties of soil and the slope stability on the fill slope of forest road constructed in the regions which consist of igneous and metamorphic rock area. The results were summarized as follows. 1) Soil type by Unified Soil Classification System(USCS) was classified as SW in soil slope, GP in weathered rock slope, GP in soft rock slope for both types of parent rock, but gravelly soil slopes in igneous and metamorphic rock area were classified as SP and GW, respectively. 2) Dry unit weight was $1.34g/cm^2{\sim}1.59g/cm^2$, specific gravity 0.57~0.61, and void ratio 0.66~0.93 in the case of igneous rock area, a dry unit weight was $1.35g/cm^2{\sim}1.51g/cm^2$, specific gravity 2.67~2.77, and void ratio 0.78~1.01 in the case of metamorphic rock area. 3) The strength parameters such as internal friction angle(${\phi}$) and cohesion(c) were selected and tested for slope stability analysis. ${\phi}$ and c of soil in igneous rock area were within the range of $29.51^{\circ}{\sim}41.82^{\circ}$ and $0.03kg/cm^2{\sim}0.38kg/cm^2$, respectively, and $21.43^{\circ}{\sim}41.43^{\circ}$ and $0.05kg/cm^2{\sim}0.44kg/cm^2$ in metamorphic rock area, respectively. 4) Result of the slope stability analysis of forest road showed that, in the weathered rock slope of igneous rock and the weathered rock and soil slope of metamorphic rock area, the possibility of slope failure was high as safety factor was below 1.0.

Effects of cultivated conditions on antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activities of sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam) were determined. The cultivated variety was Shinyulmi, and they were cultivated in a conventional culture, successful cropped hairy vetch culture, successful cropped barley cultivation, successful cropped rye cultivation, successful cropped mix-seeding of hairy vetch and barley, successful cropped mix-seeding of hairy vetch and rye, and not fertilizer. The brix degree, moisture, protein, and ash content of the sweet potatoes did not significantly change with the cultivated conditions. However amylose, total dietary fiber, and mineral content had significant changes. The total polyphenol, flavonoid, and tannin content of the methanolic extracts of the sweet potato's pericarp showed significant differences from cultivated conditions, however, the sweet potato's sarcocarp did not significantly change. The highest DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities of the methanolic extracts of the sweet potatoes were 958.81 and 663.53 mg TE/100 g in the sweet potato's pericarp on the successful cropped hairy vetch culture. Generally, there was a difference in antioxidant compound content and radical scavenging activity on the methanolic extract of sweet potato with cultivated conditions.

Changes in the chemical components of three cereals, foxtail millet, proso millet, and sorghum, during germination were determined. The crude protein contents of the three cereals did not significantly change during germination, whereas the contents of total dietary fiber of the three cereals increased during germination. The contents of ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid (GABA) of Whanggeum-cho (347.4 ${\mu}g/g$), Chongcha-cho (336.5 ${\mu}g/g$), Bulgeun-gijang (347.4 ${\mu}g/g$), Noranchal-gijang (344.9 ${\mu}g/g$), Whanggeumchal-susu (410.4 ${\mu}g/g$), and Whinchal-susu (444.0 ${\mu}g/g$) increased after 24, 24, 84, 36, 48, and 72 hr of germination, respectively, and then sharply decreased. The contents of total polyphenols, flavonoids, and tannin in foxtail millet, proso millet, and Whinchal-susu tended to increase during germination. However, the total phenolic content of Whanggeumchal-susu greatly decreased by 48 hr of germination and then considerably increased, whereas the total flavonoid content of Whanggeumchal-susu greatly decreased during germination. Total tannin content of Whanggeumchal-susu greatly decreased by 36 hr of germination and then slowly increased. DPPH radical scavenging activity of Whanggeumchal-susu greatly decreased by 36 hr of germination and then remained constant, whereas those of other cereals did not greatly change during germination. These results indicate that there are some differences in the chemical components of three cereals during germination.

We evaluated the quality characteristics of adzuki bean sediment according to variety. The moisture, crude protein, and crude ash contents of the various adzuki bean varieties were 8.2~11.1, 15.4~20.6 and 3.3~3.6 g/100 g, respectively. The potassium contents of Chilbo-pat (CB) and Hongeon-pat (HE) were 875.1 and 873.1 mg/100 g, respectively. The calcium contents of Jungbu-pat (JB) and Kumsil-pat (KS)were 73.6 and 73.2 mg/100 g, respectively. A high level of magnesium (131.4 mg/100 g) was found in Yeonkeum-pat (YK). The yields of adzuki bean sediment according to variety were no different either wet (188.3~204.7%) or dry (62.1~66.0%). The L-values on sediment of YK and KS were 67.0 and 68.0, respectively; however, the CB L-value was low at 54.0. A high level of a- (6.6) and b-value (12.8) was found in YK; however, the values for CB were much lower at 3.8 and 5.9, respectively. There was no difference in particle-size distribution, water binding capacity, and solubility of adzuki bean sediment according to variety. High levels of peak (3.79 RVU), trough (3.75 RVU), final (7.33 RVU), and setback viscosity (3.54 RVU) were found in JB. The sensory properties of products in food processing are important, and the variety of adzuki bean sediment should be chosen depending on desired product characteristics.
