We analyzed Korean professional basketball and baseball players salary under the assumption that it depends on the personal records and contribution to the team in the previous year. We extensively used data visualization tools to check the relationship among the variables, to find outliers and to do model diagnostics. We used multiple linear regression and regression tree to fit the model and used cross-validation to find an optimal model. We check the relationship between variables carefully and chose a set of variables for the stepwise regression instead of using all variables. We found that points per game, number of assists, number of free throw successes, career are important variables for the basketball players. For the baseball pitchers, career, number of strike-outs per 9 innings, ERA, number of homeruns are important variables. For the baseball hitters, career, number of hits, FA are important variables.

At the time the interest and love of the Korean professional baseball is increasing, the need for effective recruiting method rising. Recruiting existing methods were scheme based on expert evaluation, to obtain the players of each team. However, the existing method does not reflect only objective rating but also subjective way of school tie and delays are effect. Therefore the conventional method could not be the efficient. Therefore this paper analyze Korea baseball player's efficiency based on entire team and each team by using DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method, and use this efficiency to discuss effective way of recruiting players. Finally, the validity of experiment is confirmed by the matters of actual sell of players who are scouted by experiment.

Background: The position of pitcher requires a lot of repetitive motion, and because of this, it is known that not only professional baseball players, but also middle and high school players are frequently exposed to injuries in baseball. The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in upper extremity muscle activity during repeated pitching and the activity of each muscle during repeated pitching by analyzing middle and high school pitchers, divided into groups by age. Methods: Twenty participants (10 middle school male students and 10 high school male students) were recruited for this research. The outcome measures included neuromuscular motor control, including the upper trapezius (UT), triceps brachii (TB), deltoid (DT), latissimus dorsi (LD), biceps brachii (BB), pectoralis major(PM), extensor carpi radialis(ER), and flexor carpi radialis (FR). Results: The two-way analysis of varaince (ANOVA) was used to compare the muscle activity variables between the middle school and high school students. The one-way ANOVA was used to compare the muscle activity variables within time differences each groups. Conclusion: Our results provided promising clinical evidence that guide for upper extremity muscles to increase pitching efficiency in middle and high school base ball players.

In this paper, we would like to test whether the hit at a particular bat has a dependency with the hitting results at the previous bats in professional baseball games. For this purpose, we used the 2011 Korean Baseball League data. We find out that the hitting percentage at a particular bat has no dependency with the hit at the previous bat, after reviewing the conditional probability of hit at each bat and the lift. From the independence test of hits at consecutive bats, and hit at a particular bat with no hits at previous bats, we can conclude that hits at particular bats are not dependent on the hits at previous bats in most cases. Hence, we can safely conclude that a hit at a particular bat is statistically independent from the hits at the previous bats.

This study examined the consumption of licensed sports fashion products by sports fans in order to provide useful information to apparel companies that are interested in sports sponsorship marketing. Grounded theory approach was adopted to explore consumers' attitude toward the sponsoring companies, and motives of buying licensed fashion products. In-depth interviews were conducted with female fans of professional baseball clubs. The main phenomena of interest was consumer purchase of licensed fashion product, with the emphasis on cultural consumption as a causal condition. Providing support for victory, vicarious consumption, social identification, and needs to differentiate were identified as strategies related to licensed product purchase. Economic situations and limitations to purchase are identified as the mediating conditions. The study identified the effects of the consumption on the fan as well as the sponsoring companies as consequences of the phenomena. Sports marketing strategies were suggested for apparel companies based on the analysis of the consumption rituals for licensed fashion goods.

In baseball rankings, prediction has been a subject of interest for baseball fans. To predict these rankings, (based on 2011 data from Korea Professional Baseball records) the arithmetic mean method, the weighted average method, principal component analysis, and principal component regression analysis is presented. By standardizing the arithmetic average, the correlation coefficient using the weighted average method, using principal components analysis to predict rankings, the final model was selected as a principal component regression model. By practicing regression analysis with a reduced variable by principal component analysis, we propose a rank predictability model of a pitcher part, a batter part and a pitcher batter part. We can estimate a 2011 rank of pro-baseball by a predicted regression model. By principal component regression analysis, the pitcher part, the other part, the pitcher and the batter part of the ranking prediction model is proposed. The regression model predicts the rankings for 2012.

This thesis aims to provide basic resources for the development of various uniform designs of cheerleaders by investigating the currently favoured uniform designs. The 13 professional cheerleader teams were existed among the 25 professional sports teams-9 baseball, 10 basketball and 6 volleyball teams. In each sports teams, four cheerleader's uniform were chosen and evaluated in terms of the cheerleader uniform design by analyzing the forms, colors, decorations and accessories. The result shows that the common kinds of design representing the symbolic color and the emblem were generally prevalent, instead of particular types of uniform design and subject in accordance with different kinds of the professional baseball, basketball and volleyball respectively. Throughout all the kinds of the sports, the combination of the sleeveless top and hot-pants were most frequently observed. In case of the skirts, the mini flare, wrap, and pleats skirts were the most prevalent, because it gave free to motion for cheerleading. The one-piece style were rather infrequent, comparing with the two-pieces, with the hourglass and fitted silhouette the most frequent type, and all those were mini in length. The sleeve in top were generally absent or short, however the bare top style was never found that the top would have a risk of being taken off downwardly during cheerleading. The accessories and the cheering tools were not so much used. The cap and headdresses were not many in kinds. The pompom, megaphone, tube stick, towel, umbrella and musical instruments would not be sufficient to play a role of tools for cheering, which suggests that the rather advanced tools or instruments for cheering in the sports need to be developed, not alone the uniform design.

In baseball, estimation of winning percentage is critical and many studies for this topic have been actively performed. Pairwise winning percentage estimation using Pythagorean winning percentages of individual teams against other individual teams has the property that the sum of estimated winning percentage totals must be a constant. In this paper, we consider two types of pairwise estimation including linear formula and Pythagorean formula to the Korean baseball data of seasons from 2013 to 2016 under the criterions of RMSE and MAD. In conclusion, pairwise Pythagorean methods have the smaller RMSE and MAD than traditional Pythagorean methods. We suggest the optimal pairwise Pythagorean formula with a fixed exponent. Also we show that there are very little differences of RMSE and MAD between variation in exponent values.

Recently, interest in baseball has been increasing as the level of international baseball games, the popularity of domestic leagues, and the number of players entering the MLB has increased. In this paper, we propose a pitching system that can be applied to both professional and amateur baseball. The pitching system consists of a control module using MSB764T PLC, a pitching mechanism including AC motors and a ball feed rail, an HMI using the CHA-070WR model, inverter, etc. To pitch the breaking balls, the two AC motors each use an inverter to independently control the speed. The implemented pitching system was experimented on, investigating ball speed and ball movement according to RPM using the BUSHNELL Velocity Speed Gun. Experimental results on ball speed are similar to the theoretical data and the measured data. From the experimental data, it is confirmed that the damping coefficient value for the pitching ball is about 0.98. In the case of the breaking ball, the larger the difference between the speeds on the sides of the ball and the faster the ball speed, the larger the bending degree.
