Objective : This study was aimed at investigating the therapeutic effects of acupuncture on gastrointestinal side effect of Levodopa on idiopathic Pakinson's disease patients. Methods : The subjects of this study were 42 patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. We divided them into two groups; acupuncture treatment group, no treatment group. We treated the former group with acupuncture therapy focusing on gastrointestinal side effect of Levodopa while administering Levodopa as well. And the latter group was also dosed up with Levodopa without acupuncture therapy. To see the effect of acupuncture treatment clearly, we used gastrointestinal syndrome rating scale (GSRS) and visual analog scale (VAS) and compared the GSRS grade and VAS score of two groups statistically, after 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks since they have been under the treatment. Results : This study suggests that the group who has been treated with acupuncture on gastrointestinal side effect of Levodopa on idiopathic pakinson's disease patients showed higher GSRS grade and VAS score than the one that has not. But, We could't find statistical significance between the two groups on improvement of GSRS grade and VAS score. Conclusions : These results proved that acupucture theraphy might be available for re lieving symptoms related with gastrointestinal side effect of Levodopa than the one that has not. But further studies are necessary.

Objective : The present study is aimed at providing basic data to help oriental medical hospitals devise efficient operational plans by analyzing the medical expenses of in-patients in an oriental medical hospital and the factors affecting such expenses. Methods : PASW 18.0 was used to analyze the medical insurance program data of 929 patients who were discharged from a university oriental medical hospital(with 105 sick-beds) during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2010 after treatment under the coverage of health insurance and medical aid. Results : 1) Of all the patients hospitalized, 63.3% were females, their mean age was 52.73 years old, and 87.7% was covered by the health insurance program. The biggest number or 31.2% of the patients were treated by the department of acupuncture, 31.5% suffered mainly from the diseases of musculoskeletal system and connective tissues, and the average length of stay at the hospital was 19.49 days. 2) There were statistically significant differences in total medical expenses by age, clinical department in charge, principal diagnosis, and number of days hospitalized while daily average medical expenses differed depending on age, type of medical security, clinical department, principal diagnosis, and number of days staying at the hospital. 3) Total medical expenses were found significantly influenced by age, type of medical security, clinical department, principal diagnosis, and number of days hospitalized(explanatory power : 95.9%), whereas type of medical security, clinical department and principal diagnosis turned out to exercise significant influence on the daily average medical expenses(explanatory power : 26.9%). Conclusion : Oriental medical hospitals are suggested to make efforts to ensure geographical and economical accessibility for their main clients, the elderly and middle-aged, as well as to improve satisfaction of the clients with the medical service provided. They are also encouraged to work out systems to specialize in treatment with a focus on chronic degenerative and adult diseases. This paper analysed the RBRVS for a doctor's consultation by measuring the time consumed in outpatient consultation, and compared the time among medical doctors, dentist, and oriental medical doctors. The time used in consultation could be a proxy for measuring RBRVS for medical services because it is the only common factor we observe in three different clinical settings. The results show that the optimal RBRVS for consultation is 183.22 for medical doctor, 99.12 for dentist, and 236.17 for oriental medical doctor. This implies the current fee schedule for consultation should be revised as 10,740 Won for a visit to medical doctor, 5,808 Won for dentist, and 13,832 Won for oriental medical doctor.
