Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between primary dysmenorrhea. Methods: Intensity of dysmenorrhea was evaluated by scoring system of Andersch and Milsom. Anger state, trait, expression of the patients suffering from dysmenorrhea was measured by STAXI-K. And each value was analyzed by ANOVA testm as to intensity of dysmenorrhea, student t test as to existence of dysmenorrhea. Results: The numerical value of anger expression in the primary dysmenorrhea existent group was significantly higher than that in the primary dysmenorrhea non-existent group. There were significant differences among the numerical value of anger expression in the groups classified as intensity of primary dysmenorrhea, the value of three positive group() was significantly higher than that of negative group(-). Conclusion: This study showed the relationship between anger expression and primary dysmenorrhea. But there was no clue to find out their causal relationship, because this study was cross-sectional. So further study will be needed to prove the causality between them. And more precise scale has to been developed to evaluate various type of anger accurately.

As for medical education, not only acquirement of knowledge but also practical clinical competence is important because it is needed on primary medicine. Under this trend, Clinical Performance Examination(CPX) is already being practiced in medical college. But in spite of its importance, CPX is not yet practiced in Korean medical college. So, by contemplating necessity and outcome of CPX, We try to offer basic data for future imposition and improvement of CPX in Korean medical education. 49 students of grade 3 in a Daejeon Korean Medical College were targets of investigation. After educated about CPX in advance, They treated simulated patient and answered questionnaire about CPX. Then, their treatment was scored by Professor and simulated patients. Total 49 members responded to the survey and the results of the analysis were as follows. The answer that CPX is useful(Mean=4.12) and essential for acquiring professionalism of treatment(Mean=4.02) was got high scores. But many respondents replied about necessity of better CPX environment and felt difficulty about PPI(45%). Meanwhile, Professor group(Mean=9.24) tended to give more high score than Simulated patient group(Mean=7.94). This study can be very useful for composing basic data of CPX in Korean medical College and improving practical clinical competence of students. But this study has also some limits like area, respondent selection, group module etc. So, more detailed and comprehensive survey is needed. Recently, in the academic disciplines critical thinking has been emphasized as the new evolution in education. Problem-based learning is suggested as the evolutionary learning method in developing critical thinking. In the nursing education, PBL is offered as an appropriate teaching method to prepare nurse student for professional. PBL is a student-centered learning strategy aimed at developing critical thinking, motivating self-directed study and attaining autonomy. The purpose of this study was to develop the communication curriculum of nursing education based on PBL and implementing of it. PBL module was developed focused on five communication situations. And learning strategies to facilitate the learning process and the guided questions to stimulate student inquiry were also developed. This PBL education was conducted for six students in the master's course during the 14 weeks from March, 2000 to June, 2000. The outcomes of the PBL education were examined based on the content analysis of the students reflective journal. As a result, it was found that students experienced the effect of it focused on self-oriented, group-oriented, and practice-oriented domain. In the self-oriented domain, the findings indicate that there were 5 kinds of concepts including 'motivation for self-directed study', 'transition toward certainty in knowledge acquisition', 'attempt to apply their prior knowledge into new situation', 'enhancement of self-image in real situation', 'self-growth with self reflection'. In the group-oriented domain, there were 3 kinds of concepts including 'cognitive work in group', 'perception of co-responsibility in attaining learning objectives', 'socialization with group members'. In the practice-oriented domain, there were 3 kinds of concepts including 'linkage theoretical knowledge with real situation', 'attempt to apply in real situation', 'development problem solving skill in real situation'. In conclusion, PBL had a significant effect on self, group, and clinical domain. And assessing PBL outcomes is challenging because standardized instrument do not develop yet. So the findings of this study can suggest the basic data for examining the PBL outcome.
This study aimed to provide basic data on the probabilistic effects of radiation by measuring the radiation exposure dose of radiation workers and radiological technology student participating in clinical practice at C University Hospital in Incheon City and analyzing the incidence rate. The subjects of the study were 10 nuclear medicine technologists and 15 radiation oncology worker who worked in the radiological technology area of C University Hospital in Incheon City from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023, and 82 radiological technology student who completed the clinical practice course at the same medical institution from July to August. The incidence of adverse effects on the lungs due to radiation exposure dose of radiation oncology worker was shown to be 2.5 per 10,000,000 people for both shallow and deep doses. The nuclear medicine department showed a shallow dose of 2.90 ± 0.61 mSv and a deep dose of 3.02 ± 0.63 mSv, indicating an occurrence probability of 1.5 per 100,000 people. In addition, the radiological technology student classified as frequent visitors showed a shallow dose of 0.99 ± 0.12 mSv and a deep dose of 0.97 ± 0.11 mSv, indicating an occurrence probability of 6.8 and 6.6 per 1,000,000 people. It is thought that this will serve as basic data for minimizing individual exposure dose for radiation workers and analyzing the safety management and probabilistic effects of radiation.
Objectives: Bloodletting therapeutics is one of the most popular oriental medical treatments in Korea. In this study, we operate the Interview Survey for grasping clinical actual state bloodletting therapeutics in Korea. Methods : Survey questions were developed based on consensus of acupuncture professors. The list of the Korean medical doctors with experiences more than 10 years is provided by the Association of the Korean Oriental Medicine. The interviews were conducted to 39 members of the Korean medical doctors who answered to used bloodletting therapeutics over 30 percentage a day at previous telephone survey. Interview survey with them were conducted by the well-trained interviewers of College of Korean Medicine student from 29th May 2006 to 3rd June 2006. Results : Korean medical doctors prefer to use the bloodletting cupping treatment(89.5%) on the bloodletting therapeutics. Musculo-skeletal disorder was as frequent as 89.5% of treatment disease. The most common treatment area was back(57.9%), extremity(l5.8%), pain area(l0.5%). The most common instrument for treating was disposable lancet(57.9%), three-edged needle(26.3%). Most Korean medical doctors(60.5%) took up the position that bring symptom relief following good treatment area. 'Recover quickly from illness'(50%) was one of bloodletting good points but 'Sever pain'(34.2%) was a weak points. Conclusion : This survey provides unique insight into the perception of the Korean medical doctors at bloodletting therapeutics. Most doctors experienced symptom relief, received positive benefits from the treatment. Future research needs to provide more in-depth insight into doctor views of the experience.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate anti-imflammatory and protective effect for intestinal epithelial cells with Atractylodes macrocephae (AM), a traditional Korean Herbal medicine and fermented Atractylodes macrocephae (FAM) with Lactobacillus plantarum. Methods: HCT-116 and Raw 264.7 cells were used in this study. Using NO assay, we measured lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced anti-inflammatory effect. We measured permeability of intestinal epithelial cells with transepithelial electrical resistance and horseradish peroxide flux assay. Water soluble tetrazolium salt assay was used to see cell proliferation. All the results were presented in mean and standard deviation. We used Student's t-test for analyzing significance of results. Results: In Raw 264.7 cells NO production decreased 22.4% with pre-treatment of AM and FAM, especially with FAM in high concentration. In HCT-116 cells LPS-induced intestinal permeability had a protective effect with both AM and FAM, which was also tend to be proportional to the concentration. Cell viability increased up to 135.52% after treatment of high concentration of FAM in HCT-116, while there was no significant change in Raw 264.7 cells with herb treatments. Conclusions: These results show evidence that AM, especially fermented ones, significantly reduced intestinal membrane permeability. They also had a protective effect as well as an anti-inflammation effect for HCT-116 and Raw 264.7 cells. This suggest that FAM may be a therapeutic agent for Leaky gut syndrome by reducing intestinal permeability.

Purpose: This study analysed the intention of medical students career choice, educational programmes, and mentoring and counseling system for career planning at Yonsei medical school in Korea. Methods: The data were collected based on four separate graduation questionnaires at Yonsei medical school in the years of 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. The number of the survey was 130 in 2005, 130 in 2006, 153 in 2007, and that of the latest was 120 in 2008. We analysed the career intention on medical specialties and activities, and perceptions of important factors in choosing medical specialty. Results : The results which can be drawn from this study are these: firstly. students had more intention for choosing clinical medicine as university faculty than any other activities. While male students preferred to major in surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, urology, otorhinolaryngology, female students in internal medicine, neurology, anesthesiology and pain medicine, diagnostic radiology, laboratory medicine. Secondly, students perceived that the most important factor which can influence on choosing a medical specialty was individual factor such as one's interests and concerns, values, and aptitudes. In stead, they relatively less perceived mentor and role model's effects on choosing a medical specialty compared to those of the United States of America. Third, the career planning at Yonsei medical school was evaluated well, especially educational programmes for career planning such as self assessment programme, elective(specialized) courses, and conversation with a senior programme. Conclusions: Unexpectedly, there are high demands for career planning by medical students. Therefore, we will reorganize systematic devices for career planning such as mentoring and counseling system at medical school.
Background: The use of telemedicine for postoperative visits is increasing, especially in rural areas. Few studies have investigated its use for arthroscopic shoulder patients. This study aims to evaluate patient satisfaction with telemedicine for postoperative clinic visits following arthroscopic shoulder procedures in a rural setting. Methods: Patients were prospectively enrolled using the following exclusion criteria: <18 years, open procedures, and non-compliance follow-up at 6 weeks postoperatively. All patients completed a 13-question satisfaction survey, while telemedicine patients completed an additional, separate seven-question survey. Patients who switched groups completed a four-question prompt to determine the reasons for switching. Differences between groups were evaluated by either Student t-test or Mann-Whitney U-test. Results: The study enrolled 32 patients, with five patients following up by telemedicine and 27 in person. Age and distance from clinic were similar between patients who were assigned to the telemedicine group, completed the telemedicine visit, and opted for in-person visits (all p>0.05). Patient satisfaction did not vary significantly based on care by the surgeon, concerns being addressed, thoroughness of visit, overall clinical assessment at a prior visit, and improvements in pain and physical function (all p>0.05). Among patients who opted out of telemedicine visits, the most common reason was a preference to meet in-person but these patients agreed that telemedicine visits are a good idea. Conclusions: Regardless of type of follow-up, individuals reported similar levels of satisfaction with treatment during the visit and improvements in pain and physical function.
Background/Aims: During endoscopy, white spots (WS) are sometimes observed around benign or malignant colorectal tumors; however, few reports have investigated WS, and their significance remains unknown. Therefore, we investigated the significance of WS from clinical and pathological viewpoints and evaluated its usefulness in endoscopic diagnosis. Methods: Clinical data of patients with lesions diagnosed as epithelial tumors from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2020, were analyzed (n=3,869). We also performed a clinicopathological analysis of adenomas or carcinomas treated with endoscopic resection (n=759). Subsequently, detailed pathological observations of the WS were performed. Results: The positivity rates for WS were 9.3% (3,869 lesions including advanced cancer and non-adenoma/carcinoma) and 25% (759 lesions limited to adenoma and early carcinoma). Analysis of 759 lesions showed that the WS-positive lesion group had a higher proportion of cancer cases and larger tumor diameters than the WS-negative group. Multiple logistic analysis revealed the following three statistically significant risk factors for carcinogenesis: positive WS, flat lesions, and tumor diameter ≥5 mm. Pathological analysis revealed that WS were macrophages that phagocytosed fat and mucus and were white primarily because of fat. Conclusions: WS are cancer-related findings and can become a new criterion for endoscopic resection in the future.

Purpose: Competency in physical assessment is an important component of nursing practice. However, some physical assessment skills are not being utilized within the current teacher-centered, content-heavy curriculum. This study was conducted to identify the effects of student-centered, self-directed learning in the physical assessment class. Methods: An experimental study with a post-test only control group design was used to compare an intervention group that was provided self-directed learning classes and a control group that was provided traditional lecture and practice classes. Competency in physical assessment, academic self-confidence, and learning satisfaction were evaluated. Collected data were analyzed using $x^2$-test (Fisher's exact test) and independent t-test. Results: Competency in physical assessment was significantly higher in the experimental group. However, academic self-confidence and learning satisfaction were not significantly different between the groups. Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that self-directed learning can improve nursing students competency in physical assessment and that self-directed learning is a good education method to improve nursing students' competency in physical assessment during clinical practice and perform quality patient care by making active use of physical assessment skills.
