Objective : For the purpose of developing Boraginaceae plants recorded in Korean Herbology in Korea, the literatures of the successive generations have been thoroughly investigated to prepare this article. Methods : Books and research papers about Herbology which published at Korea and other countries were examined. Results : A list was made about Boraginaceae plant which were cultivated or grew naturally in Korea, after investigated the data on domestic and foreign Boraginaceae plants. Boraginaceae(grew in Korea) were divided into 14 classes with 24 species. Out of those, 6 classes with 9 species were found serviceable which indicates 37.5% of all. Out of all 24 species of Boraginaceae family, Trigonotis genus were found 5 species, which were shown the most. Among 3 genus of Lithospermum species, medicinal plants were all one species each. Out of all serviceable parts in Boraginaceae, Herb·Radix·Fructus parts took first place as 3 species. There are 2 species toxic, the survey said. 3 Classifying medicinal plants among the Borginaceae plants by part, whole herbs, roots, and fruits are found to be 3 separate species each. When it comes to the nature of taste, 5 kinds of taste without action and seven kinds of bitter taste are the most common. For channel tropism, liver channel has the largest number of 5 types. Conclusion : There were totaled to 14 genera and 24 species in Boraginaceae in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 6 genera, 9 species, some 37.5% in total.
Sixty medicinal and food plants native to Korea were mainly selected with old traditional habit and antioxidant activity was investigated. The 80% EtOH extracts of sixty medicinal and food plants were screened for antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity was measured by the TBA (Thiobarbituric acid), DPPH (1, 1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl), SOD (superoxide dismutase) which was evaluated by the nitro blue tetrazolium(NBT) reduction method. Among sixty plants, black Glycine max(87. 3%) and Solanum nigrum (80.6%) exhibited the highest antioxidant activity by TBA and DPPH methods, respectively. Also, 10 species extracts including black Glycine max showed the high activity value in these two methods. The SOD characteristics on black Glycine max seed extracts which showed the highest SOD activity (53.5%) exhibited four major SODs; two Cu/ZnSODs and two FeSODs. However, Adenophaora vertidllata which showed lowest SOD value (10.4%) had only Cu/Zn SOD. No varietal differences in the high SOD value were detected in the Cu/Zn SOD isozyme patterns.

This study was investigated to elucidate the distribution of vascular plants and their usefulness of Seondalsan Mountain (1,236 m) in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The surveys were carried out 20 times from April in 2014 to October in 2020. The vascular plants of Seondalsan Mountain was consisted a total of 638 taxa based on the voucher specimens; 96 families, 341 genera, 562 species, 18 subspecies, 53 varieties, 5 forms. 20 taxa of the Korean endemic plants were recorded and 1 taxa of Critically Endangered (CR), 3 taxa of Vulnerable (VU) and 9 taxa of Least Concern (LC), designated by Korean Forest Service as rare plants, were investigated in this region. Furthermore, V, IV and III degrees of floristic regional indicator plants, designated by the National Institute of Ecology, were included 1 taxa, 11 taxa and 28 taxa, respectively. Among them, edible, medicinal, fragrant, industrial, ornamental, ecological restoration, forage/compost plants were included 440 taxa, 505 taxa, 19 taxa, 234 taxa, 335 taxa, 214 taxa and 269 taxa respectively. In addition, 30 taxa of naturalized plants were observed.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of supplemental medicinal plants (Artemisia, Acanthopanx and Garlic) on productive parameters in pigs. In experiment 1, a total of 90 multiparous sows were used in a 21-d performance study. The diets included: 1) CON (basal diet; Control), 2) BM1 (CON + 0.1% medicinal plants) and 3) BM2 (CON + 0.2% medicinal plants). Backfat thickness from farrowing to weaning was higher (P<0.05) in CON compared with sows fed treatments diets. The piglets weight gain was higher in the medicinal plants treatments (P<0.05). ADFI, nutrient digestibility and survivability were not affected by the experimental treatments. In experiment 2, a total of 60 finishing pigs (Landrace ${\times}$ Yorkshire ${\times}$ Duroc, $65.21\;{\pm}\;0.04\;kg$ average initial body weight) were used in a 56-d performance assay to determine the effects of supplemental medicinal plants (Artemisia, Acanthopanx and Garlic) on growth performance and carcass characteristics in finishing pigs. The dietary treatments included: 1) CON (basal diet ; Control), 2) BM1 (CON + 0.1% medicinal plants) and 3) BM2 (CON + 0.2% medicinal plants). For 4~8 weeks and overall period, ADG was higher (P<0.05) in the pigs fed medicinal plants. CON treatment was higher 24 pH loin and cooking loss than BM1 treatment (P<0.05). Water holding capacity and drip loss after 1day were affected by the dietary treatments (P<0.05). No numerical differences were observed in sensory evaluation, meat color, TBARS and loin area among three treatments. In conclusion, the results obtained from this feeding trial suggest that the medicinal plants mixture supplementation in diets for finishing pigs can improve ADG, water holding capacity, cooking loss and it improved backfat loss in sow and, litter weight gain.
This experiment was carried out to obtain the basic information on processing for product of high quality goods in Artemisia capillaris. We investigated antioxidant and antimicrobial activities by harvesting date and plant parts in Artemisia capillaris. Contents of total polyphenol compounds and flavonoids were the highest in leaf, followed by capitulum and stem. Leaf on June 30 contained 76.7 mg/g DW total phenolic compounds and 78.2 mg/g DW flavonoids. As $RC_{50}$ value, that was, the concentration of sample required for 50% reduction of DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl) absorbance, was very low as $5.42\;{\mu}g$ in leaf on June 30, antioxidant activity was the highest. In addition, $RC_{50}$ of BHA, BHT and ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ were $3.09\;{\mu}g$, $24.30{\mu}g$ and $2.87{\mu}g$, respectively. And capitulum had antimicrobial activities against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Citrobacter freundii, Vibrio vulnificus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. By the way, leaf and stem rarely had antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial activities of capitulum according to harvesting date were very various. Capitulum on August 30 had the highest antimicrobial activities against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio vulnificus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and on July 30 against Enterobacter aerogenes, Citrobacter freundii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
It is very important factors to control optimal light transmission ratio and soil moisture content in order to produce good quality of ginseng seedling. To study the effect of light transmission ratio (LTR) and soil moisture content(SMC) on growth characteristics and yield of ginseng seedling, LTR was controlled by three level such as 21.2, 24.8% and 30.3%, and SMC was plotted by four level of 11.0%, 12.5%, 15.3% and 18.9% at the greenhouse. Chlorophyll content was gradually decreased in the low LTR (21.2%), while it was distinctly decreased by the decrease of SMC in excessively high LTR (30.3%). The decrease of SMC in the high LTR increased heat injury ratio distinctly, while heat injury ratio in the low LTR was only increased when SMC was very low such as 11.0%. All of fresh root weight per Kan (3.3$m^2$), root weight per plant, and the number of usable seedling were distinctly decreased by the increase of LTR and the decrease of SMC. Excessive increase of LTR in optimal SMC (18.9%) hadn't a great effect on the decrease of root weight, while root weight in low SMC was distinctly decreased by the increase of LTR. Ratio of rusty root was distinctly increased in the condition that both of LTR and SMC were high. Ratio of rusty root in the excessively high LTR was gradually fallen off by decrease of SMC, but its ratio in low SMC didn't changed distinctly by the decrease of SMC.
The effects of angiogenesis inhibitor from the extract libraries of Korean and Chinese medicinal plants were investigated using a protein microarray chip. Protein chip was constructed by immobilization of integrin ${\alpha}_5{\beta}_1$ on protein chip base plates and employed far screening active extracts that inhibit the integrin-fibronectin interaction from the extract libraries. The 100 extracts of medicinal plants were obtained from extract bank of National Institute of Crop Science, RDA. The 14 extracts among 100 extract libraries were shown efficient inhibition activity for the interaction between integrin-fibronectin. The medicinal plants of 14 extracts were Vitex negundo var. incisa (Lam.) C.B. Clarke, Epimedium koreanum Nakai, Cedrela sinensis A. Juss, Ipomea aquatica Forsk, Schisandra chinensis Baill, Pulsatilla koreana Nakai, Paeonia lactiflora Pall. var.hortensis Makino, Oenothera odorata, Allium chinense, Allium victorialis var. platyphyllum MAKINO, Polygonatum odoratum Druce var. pluriflorum Ohwi, Hosta lancifolia, Agrimonia pilosa L. var. japonica Nakai and Potentilla chinensis SER. The Paeonia lactiflora, Oenothera, and Agrimonia pilosa from these 14 extracts libraries were shown strong inhibition activity of integrin ${\alpha}_5{\beta}_1$.

Four medicinal plants selected from preliminary screening study were evaluated in the aspects of their antioxidant activities in alcohol-intoxicated rats. Rats fed 1% ${\alpha}-tocopherol-supplemented$ diet as positive control and ones done ${\alpha}-tocopherol-deficient$ diet as negative control were compared with ones done the plant extract-supplemented diet (n=8). After the administration of the experimental diets for 4 weeks, typical increments in activities of manganese-superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) indicated in alcohol-intoxicated rats, were not observed in ones fed Lagerstroemia and Ulmus extract-supplemented diet. The content of thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), the product of lipid peroxidation, did not increased in rats fed plant extracts-supplemented diet except for Terminalia. From the results, it is concluded that Lagerstroemia and Ulmus have physiologically efficient antioxidant activities.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of oriental medicinal plant extracts added to chocolates on the moisture content, color, radical scavenging activity and sensory characteristics. The oriental medicinal plant extracts were added at a weight percentage of 0, 4 and 8%. As the ratio of the extracts in the chocolates increased, the moisture content, color, and radical scavenging activity increased. In sensory evaluation, significant differences (p<0.05) were shown in taste, bitterness, and overall acceptability depending on the addition of oriental medicinal plant extracts but there were no significant differences in chocolate aroma and texture.
