  • This study reviewed recent trends in climate research by Korean climatologists. We analyzed six domestic journals listed in the Korean Citation Index and four international journals listed in the Science Citation Index during 2001-2011. Research on climate change has rapidly increased during the study period and studies on precipitation variability have been given continual attentions among Korean climatologists. In climate change research, meteorologists focused on characteristics, prediction, and causes while geographers were more interested in characteristics and impacts of climate change. In applied climatology and bioclimatology, research on the impacts of climate change on agriculture, livestock, vegetation, and human health has increased under recent climate change. While there has been steady interest in climatography by Korean climatologists, the number of papers has generally decreased over the recent period.

  • Objectives : Most academic societies have their own journals. Those journals represent the trends of academic societies' studies. Therefore, it is important to review articles in journals. Korean Society of Medical History (KSMH) has Journal of Korean Society of Medical History (J. of KSMH). We analyze articles in J. of KSMH and try to recognize the trends. Methods : From Vol. 12 No. 2 in 1999 to Vol. 27 No. 1 in 2014 of the J. of KSMH, we retrieved article's headings and analyzed those subjects. Results : We got 342 research articles about ; book 97, person 44, theory 65 (medical theory 48, thought 8, origin of word and story 9), clinical research 42 (disease 19, method 16, treatment 7), system of medicine and medical treatment 22 (system of medicine 10, system of medical treatment 12), mutual and comparative study in medicine 18 (mutual study 14, comparative study 4), etc. 56 (materia medica and prescription 23, trends study and essay 18, traditional medicine informatics 10, community medicine 5). Conclusions : J. of KSMH contained several subjects based on medical history ; book, person, theory, thought, origin of word and story, clinical research, mutual and comparative study in medicine, etc. However, the subjects were biased to books and persons.

  • Evaluating contents and quality of the journal along with the research ability of researcher is becoming an important issue recently. This research compared level of impact of the journals related to statistics in nation, 'Journal of the Korean Data & Information Science Society'-centric, using various KCI citation index. Moreover, this research surveyed network between the journals in the aspect of social network analysis, using co-citation frequency. From that, the following conclusions were drawn. First, percentage of self-citation was relatively high. Second, even though Statistics journal had higher impact index than the mathematics, physics and chemistry, frequency of citing statistics journal in other journals was not that high. Third, 'Journal of the Korean Data & Information Science Society' serves central role in network analysis, however it seems that more efforts are required.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the research papers published in three nursing journals to suggest the direction for Journal of Korean Oncology Nursing (JKON). Methods: To compare JKON with Journal of Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education and Cancer Nursing, all the research papers published in those three journals, 2010 were reviewed using an analysis criteria developed by the researchers, focusing on type of research, characteristics of authors and subjects, research design, data collection and analysis methods, sample size estimation, and ethical considerations regarding data collection. Results: JKON lacked research papers which were supported by research funds, produced by multidisciplinary teams, addressing cancer survivors or patients with metastatic cancers, and written in qualitative methodologies. However, JKON showed higher ratio of research papers than the other two journals which were adapted from thesis or dissertations, describing sample size estimation process precisely, and participating subjects diagnosed with various cancers. Conclusion: The study found out that JKON is presenting well the area of oncology nursing in Korea and also has several weak points that need to be improved. The study therefore suggested several recommendations for the JKON to take the professional and global leader roles.

  • Rapid globalization process is applying to Science field in Korea. Until now, most researches and government's announcement used to examine the scientific level of Korea by using the number of publications in the SCI Journals. I investigate other aspects of the scientific globalization: a scientific collaboration trend, participations of foreign researchers, and the national level of collaboration networks. There are increasing patterns in collaboration and foreign researchers' participation, and the Impact Factors of the Journals were preceded by inflating trend in the participations of foreign researchers. Also, the breadth and the density are different from each science fields in the national level of collaboration networks. These findings are related to the process of globalization in the Korean science journals and the science fields.

  • Purpose: Dysmenorrhea is a common gynecologic condition among reproductive-age women. It consisted with menstrual clamps and other symptoms such as nausea. vomiting, diarrhea, and fatigue. Pain control for this disease mainly through NASIDs. but recently CAM therapies, acupuncture and others for painful menstruation are widely used in western countries. But RCT articles about dysmenorrhea in Korea, are not enough to lead such global research trends. The purpose of this study is to review treatment method and other research tendency about dysmenorrhea in Korean Medicine(KM) related dominant journals. Methods: Searching was done through web site and directly searched dysmenorrhea related articles in journals of Korean medicine Gynecology, published during 1996-2007. Results: Twenty five articles were searched in KM related journals, then two of them were simple case report and ten were paper of clinical trials. But there no RCT or control group-designed study. All of them present positive effect on dysmenorrhea but drop out rates were relatively high. Conclusion: KM therapies including acupuncture and herbal medicine have some beneficial effect to resolve menstrual cramps, but KM therapy related Korean articles don't have strong objective power as a evidence in the viewpoint of EBM. So continuous clinical trials such as RCT and multi center trials are needed.

  • As a Korean national institute, KISTI has assigned and deposited DOIs to use Korean journals internationally as well as to enlarge the citation all over the world. In addition, KISTI has provided the service, Cited-by linking, which is to identify the citation among journals. In the paper, we would like to propose the way to expand the citation, finding the result of citation by using Cited-by linking based on DOIs in CrossRef for Scientific and technical journals deposited by KISTI.

  • The academic journal is a very important means for science communication, and it is critical for academic development. Most of Korean academic journals are not doing their fundamental roles because of the researchers' perception about their quality. A fundamental thing for Korean academic journals to contribute effectively to science communication would be the effective evaluation on the Journal. The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation model for Korean academic journals. This model will be effective for quality measurement, manifestation of the strength and weakness, and for the improvement of journal quality. It was developed through analysis on evaluation activities of two institutions, and through interviews and surveys on Korean researchers.
