  • This study compares the history of modern Korean literature written in China with the history of South Korean literature, the history of North Korean literature and the history of national literature, explores aspects of narrative and therefore examines transcultural practice presented in such texts. There have hitherto been approximately 25 works on the history of Korean literature written in China, and 16 of 25 works are on the history of modern Korean literature. Regarding their purpose, the number of pedagogical works outstandingly exceeds the number of research works. In terms of perspective and contents, it can be divided into three categories; one that only embraces the history of South Korean literature, another embracing the history of North Korean literature only and the other embracing the history of South Korean and North Korean literature. This study has selected representative texts from each category and compared recognition and narrative aspects to that of the history of South Korean literature, the history of North Korean literature and the history of Chinese literature. It further examines loci of definitions' transfer and formation as well. As a result, this study reveals valuable understanding of recognition and narration of the history of Korean literature. First, this study offers an introspective attitude, as the history of modern Korean literature accentuates influence of only Western literature, overlooking influence of Chinese literature. Second, this study proposes a new narrative perspective on the history of Unified Korean literature through independent and objective identification of the history of North Korean literature. Last, it emphasizes popularization of literature - aside from pure literary-centrism - and expands possibilities of embracing distinct works relevant to multimedia.

  • The Korean government has recently announced its plan to establish the first National Museum of Natural History. However, the Korean word for natural history, jayonsa, is not a very familiar term to some academics as well as the general public. This article discusses the definition and history of natural history, describes the functions of natural history meseums, and makes suggestions to the establishment of our National Museum. Modern natural history is no longer an art of ‘stamp collecting’. It is a comprehensive scientific endeavor pursuing to enlighten the history of the planet Earth and the diversity of natural objects it contains. Natural history museum must have two museums within the museum: the outer museum for exhibition and general public education and the inner museum for research and specialist education. I hope that our National Museum of Natural History will be a place where we all get to know about Nature and thus to love her.

  • Kim, Doo-jong wrote "History of Korean Medicine", which was based on the historical view of Japanese Imperialism, insisting that Korea had stagnated and should be stimulated by others because it had no ability to improve by itself. To meet his opinion, he distorted and fabricated Korean Medical History to justify his past and work as Lee, Byung-Do did on Korean History. This paper intended to reveal his distortion and fabrication on the ancient Korean Medical History. Firstly, he insisted that Korean medicine had stagnated till other neighbor medicine, that is, Chinese medicine, Indian medicine, Japanese medicine and European medicine stimulated its progress. Secondly, he insisted that the Korea peninsula has been the Korean territory all through its history, which was originally forged by the Japanese Imperialists. He adopted this theory to justify his past and work. Thirdly, he insisted that Korea was effected by the European medicine a long time ago. Even though the European medicine was not skillful at that time compared with Korean medicine, he adopted this theory to justify his past and work. Lastly, he had a wrong recognition on culture and religion, which he just used to justify his past and work. Profound study and research are required to eliminate his distortion and write the history of Korean medicine correctly.

  • History will be defined as a science on human beings in both space and time(des hommes dans le temps et l'espace). Navigational History is a premise to compose Maritime History. Maritime History is a branch of General History which is classified on the basis of space and will be definded as a branch of history to examine 'inter-realtions between maritime affairs and inland affairs'. Then, what kind of 'go by sea'can be a subject of Navigational History ? A research-subject of Navigational History must be navigation rather than sail or voyage. Because while 'sail' means to 'passive and noncommercial sailing' and voyage means to journeyin a general sense that includes sail and navigation, navigation means to indicate ' to go from one place to another in a ship' adn 'to convoy goods by water'. Then, how can we define Navigation History? Navigational History in a narrow sense is to be a field of studying 'process of development of nautical science and seamanship on the side of History ofScience and Techique, whereas Navigational History in a broad sense is to be a field of analyzing 'effects of historical navigation upon history on the side of General History. On studying Navigational History in a narrow sense, there are signifiacances of disclosing what the development of nautical instruments and arts of navigation have played a role in history. Navigational History in a broad sense is a branch of General History to study effects of historical navigation upon history. In conclusion, the significance of studying Navigation History is to disclose process of developmentof arts of navigation, and on the basis of this study is to reveal how the human elements operate in historical navigation. In short, it should not cease to study Navigational History in a narrow sense, and should enlarge its perspective of research toward Navigational History in a broad sense.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of introducing the history of science in modern Korea into elementary education. Although there are many studies on applying a history of science to science education, they do not pay attention to the history of science in modern Korea. I survey research papers on the history of science in modern Korea and science education based on a history of science, and elementary science textbooks in Korea, Japan and the US. When we apply the history of science in modern Korea into elementary education, elementary students will recognize science has close relations to Korean culture and history and they will develop the familiarity with science. I show there are 3 ways using the history of science in modern Korea in elementary education: 1) Applying Korean scientists' research contents to science education, 2) Measures to evaluate Korean scientists correctly, 3) Materials for science education programs for gifted elementary students.

  • It has been about twenty years since world history in a new sense was introduced to Korean academia. At first, it was the educators who showed a lot of interest in world history. But, before long, world/global history came to exert an important influence on history research and teaching in Korea. Even though certain unfavorable conditions still exist, the need for world/global history is growing and a number of academic institutes and scholars are putting in a great deal of effort to advance it in Korea. Here, we examine the changing meanings of world history on the basis of the history of concepts and provide a general idea of its introduction and diffusion in historiography and history education in Korea.

Key words to search were 'nocturnal enuresis', 'bedwetting', 'enuresis', 'incontinence', 'management', 'evaluation', 'assessment', 'questionnaire', 'guideline', 'voiding dysfunction'. Results : Questions are grouped in eight categories: primary history(sex, age, height, weight), family history, enuresis history(primary/secondary, frequency, time of enuresis, nocturia), voiding history(average number, frequency, pattern, volume, posture, daytime enuresis), medical history, constipation/encopresis, sleep(OSA). Conclusion : A careful, complete history taking will help to plan treatment properly and to study.

The Critique and Search for a Way of Historical Study of Korean Architecture - Method as a Theory of Practice - (한국(韓國) 건축역사(建築歷史) 연구의 비판(批判)과 방향모색(方向摸索) - 실천이론(實踐理論)으로서의 건축역사방법(建築歷史方法)-)

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest new direction to the historical research society of Korean architecture by epistemological discussion. Korean architectural history at present, without question of history for what, for whom, and how, is regarded as 'history for the past' only 'to describe past' or 'to collect correct data' However, history is beyond that; history ought to suggest a direction of present and near future. Moreover, architecture is not pure but applied knowledge, that is, focused to 'how to build'. Therefore, past historical knowledge by research should influence to present design. In order to do that, history of mere data collection should change direction to the history of meaning by interpretation, and then, of finding design principle. The principle used in architectural community becomes theory in scientific research community, and finally is unified to 'theory of practice'. Creative history should be substituted for retrospective history reusing historical reservoir, at the specific situation of Korea; tradition has been discontinued drastically and Western method imported to the point of being culturally-colonized. Some expmples of altanative history are suggested at the end of this paper as conclusion.
