  • This study is intended to investigate an influence of the kinds and the maximum size of aggregate on the compressive strength of small size core specimen. According to the results, the compressive strength of standard specimen is large in order of basalt, granite and limestone aggregate, and shows increasing tendency as the maximum size of aggregate grows large. The compressive strength of concrete using basalt aggregate shows similar tendency to granite aggregate, and that of concrete using limestone aggregate decreases slightly, compared with granite aggregate. The reducing ratio of the compressive strength of 25mm core specimen is least when the maximum size of aggregate is 10mm. But the compressive strength of 50 and 100mm core specimen is almost not influenced by the maximum size of aggregate.

  • During this study, various stress path tests in previous isotropic and anisotropic (compression and tension) stress histories are performed on weathered granite soil sampled at Iksan, Jeonbuk. Yielding points are determined from various stress-strain curves(stress ratio-shear strain, volumetric strain, normalized energy and dissipated total energy curves). The shape and characteristics of isotropic and anisotropic yielding curves are examined. The main results are summarized as follows . 1) Yielding curries defined from stress ratio - normarized energy and dissipated total energy curves show almost perfect ellipse. 2) Directions of plastic strain incremental vector are not perpendicular to yielding curve. 3) Normarized energy and dissipated total energy spread with similar tendency with respect to yielding currie in stress space.

  • This paper presents the stress-strain , volumetric strain characteristics of the Pocheon weathered residual granite soil with variation of the initial water content under drained conditions. A series of consolidated drained triaxial compressiion tests and isotrpc compression tests with various initial water content on specimens were performed. All material parameters of Lade's double work hardening model were determined by using the results of tests. Most aspects of the soil behavior measured in the triaxial compression tests were reproduced with good accuracy by the constitutive model . Therefore double work hardening model has been shown to be applicable to weathered residual granite soil.

  • Shallow failures of slopes in weathered soils are caused by infiltration due to prolonged rainfall. These failures are mainly triggered by the deepening of the wetting band accompanied by a decrease in suction induced by the water infiltration. In this paper, hysteresis on soil-water characteristic curve(SWCC) of granite and gneiss weathered soils are investigated using transient flow analysis respectively. Each case was subjected to artificial rainfall intensities and time duration depending on the laboratory-based drying and wetting processes. The results show that the unsaturated seepage on weathered slopes are very much affected by the initial suction of soils and unsaturated permeability of the soils. In addition, a granite weathered soil has a lower air-entry value, residual matric suction, and wetting front suction and less hysteresis loop than a gneiss weathered soil.

  • Flow pump technique was used in order to determine the soil-water characteristic curve of weathered granite soils in Pocheon area. This technique enables measurement to be more convenient and accurate as it is based on the CU condition of triaxial compression test. Besides, it is also able to measure dry and moisture curves continuously since the test is controled by means of a computer automatically. In this study, not only a hydraulic conductivity of weathered granite soils at fully saturated state in Pocheon area, but also a soil-water characteristic curve throughout unsaturate flow tests were determined. In addition, Brooks and Corey's model and Genuchten's model were used to simulate the soil-water characteristic curve. On the basis of the simulation an unsaturate hydraulic conductivity was predicted.

  • During this study, constant stress ratio tests with previous compression anisotropic stress history are performed on compacted decomposed granite soil sampled at Iksan, Jeonbuk. Yielding points are determined from stress-strain curves. The shape and characteristics of compression anisotropic yield curves is examined. In addition, the measured value of yielding curve and stress-strain behavior is predicted by Yasufuku's anisotropic constitutive model based on non-associated flow rule. The main results are summarized as follows : 1) Shape of yielding curves shows almost ellipse but asymmetry with respect to stress path during previous consolidation stress. 2) Yasufuku's anisotropic constitutive model is suitable in evaluation of yielding curves on anisotropic consolidated decomposed granite soil. 3) The predicted stress-strain curve shows reasonable agreement to measured behaviours.

  • This study is to evaluate the characteristics of bearing capacity for granite soils by N-value. The partial data is investigated for practical evaluation of weathering degree and bearing capacity on granite soils. The settlement is linearly decreased when the N-value is less than 50, but the settlement isn't constant when the N-value is more than 50. This is the affect of ground water. Therefore ground water is detailed evaluated. The bearing capacity is linearly increased when the N-value is less than 30, is inactively increased when the N-value is between 30 to 50, is constant when the value is more than 50.

  • Unsaturated soil has a possibility to induce a negative pore water pressure. Until now, saturated soil is mainly focused on the research of soil mechanics. Recently, soil mechanics is researched on two major parts such as saturated and unsaturated soil mechanics. Negative pore water pressure has a non-linear relationship with the water content changes. Soil-water characteristic curves of soil in Korea are not determined. There is no proper characteristic value such as air-entry value and residual water content. In this study, the characteristic curves of reclaimed soil, sand, and weathered granite soil were determined by laboratory tests. Air-entry value and residual water content were determined by fitting methods. Soil-water characteristic curves were estimated based on the particle-size distribution and compared with the laboratory test results. The results of soil-water characteristic curves estimation indicated that Fredlund and Wilson's model is excellent for sand and weathered granite soil. Arya and Paris's model is excellent for reclaimed soil.

  • Tow constitutive models for weathered granite soil, Yasufuku's constitutive model with a single yield surface and Lade's constitutive model with two intersectiong yield surface compared in terms of their capabilities to accurately capture the observed behavior of compacted weathered grainite soil for various stress-paths. Both the single surface and the double surface models capture the experimentally observed behavior at a variety of stress-paths with good accuracy. The double surface model may model the observed compacted weathered granite soil behavior with better accuracy for proportational loading with increasing stress, but the single surface model may model dilatancy property with better accuracy for p-constant loading with increasing stress ratio.

  • This study examined basic mechanical properties by developing eco-friendly soil concrete using Masato particulate matter treated as waste. Experiments show that DG10 satisfies the compressive strength criterion, but for DG20, the criterion was not reached. As the mixing volume of Masato particulates increased, the compressive strength and slump decreased, and in the case of the compression strength test after freezing and melting, it was found that the standards were not met.
