발터 그로피우스의 작품에 반영된 독일 근대 주거의 계획쟁점 (Issues in German Modern Housing Design Reflected on Walter Gropius' Works)

  • In Germany, during the modern architectural movements diverse experiments for the propagation of modern housing solutions were conducted that succeeded to the spirit of Bauhaus. Therefore, the study traced how Walter Gropius adopted the trends of architectural style and aesthetic, the concept of production, the concept for new typology of housing, and issues in urban architecture. According to the results, processes to the 'sachlich' style could be seen in the cases of early and latter works of detached houses and further aesthetic changes of later works. Second, Gropius expanded his design field from detached houses to multiple dwelling and it was accompanied by typological transformation of buildings considering the industrialization and production of housing. Third, in the cases of multiple dwelling, it could be identified that site planning of housing complexes and building arrangement reflected a shift from traditional urban pattern to new alternatives suitable for mass housing supply. Thus, changes in the genealogy and propensity of German residential designs were partly summed up and their implications on modern housing architecture were discussed.

미국 주 도서관 서비스의 분석 (An Analysis of the State Library Services in the United States)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 지역대표도서관의 서비스 방향을 고려하기 위해 미국의 주 도서관의 서비스 내용을 분석하였다. 통계자료와 주 도서관 웹 페이지를 통하여 데이터를 수집하였다. 분석 결과 미국 주 도서관은 주마다. 차이가 많이 있지만 핵심 기능은 지역 도서관에 대해 예산, 서비스, 교육 등을 지원하는 것이었다. 지역주민에 대한 직접적인 서비스는 지역의 공공도서관에 비해 그 규모는 작지만 주 단위의 역사 및 정보를 수집 및 제공하며, 동시에 장애인을 위한 서비스를 담당하고 있었다. 이와 같은 미국 사례를 비추어볼 때, 우리나라 지역대표도서관은 지역의 공공도서관을 지원하며 공공도서관과 차별화된 서비스를 제공하여야 한다. 또한 지역대표도서관은 각 지역 특성에 맞는 형태로 운영되어야 한다.

백출과 창출의 기원에 대한 식물분류학적 연구 (Studies of Taxonomic Origins of Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba and Atractylodis Rhizoma)

  • The plant origines of Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba and Atractylodis Rhizoma are genus Atractylodes*Compositae). Their origines in pharmacopoeia are slightly different among Korea, Japan, North Korea and China. The species of Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba are Atrctylodes japonica $K_{OIDZ}$. A. ovata $T_{HUNB}$.. Atractylodis Rhizoma are A. lancea DC., A. chinensis DC. and A. koreana $K_{ITM}$. But the texonomic genealogy of Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba is different from that of Atractylodis Rhizoma. The herbal origines of Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba and Atractylodis Rhizoma were not different at the early days. Since Tao-Hong-Jing(陶弘景) distinguished between Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba and Atractylodis Rhizoma at the very beginning, theri medicinal usages are different, Atractylodis Rhizoma have been used to remove pathogenic dampness in the digestive organs and Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba have been used to invigorate the digestive system and replenish qi. In additions, the figures and historical records of herbal appearance are different between Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba and Atractylodis Rhizoma. The diagnostics of them are in accord with the texonomic genealogies.

아이레스 마테우스 건축에 나타난 디자인 조직체로서의 서브 트랙션 방법과 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Subtraction Method and Characteristics as Design Organization found in the Architecture of Aires Mateus)

  • Aires Mateus Architects is one of the most well-known Portuguese architects after $\acute{A}lvaro$ Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura. The studio shows clear design methods in which the relationship between solid mass and void space are creatively inter-connected. Subtractive transformation of form is the fundamental aspect of this relationship. Most of Aires Mateus' projects were designed based on the subtractive method. Although subtraction can be seen as architectural formal presentation, in Aires Mateus' cases, there are deeper logics, strategies, and meanings. Not only to create a form, subtractive method has been flexibly used to organize and compose different programs and spatial atmosphere. To examine this hidden dimension of Aires Mateus' unique design process, 5 case projects were selected and analyzed in detail based on program, light & visual-perception, and site's placeness. From the case study results, it is found that there are much deeper role of subtraction: relationship between solid-void are constantly changing to generate serviced and servant spaces, there are central spaces that are contrast against the complexity of exterior forms, aiming to build an archetypal form that transcends ever-changing time, ambivalent balance between universality and peculiarity in the genealogy of contemporary architecture. The study concluded that the unique characteristics of subtraction method as design organization have various possibilities that can apply on other architectural and interior projects which would have similar ideas and circumstances.

이미지 속에서 살아남다? 초상화에서의 삶과 죽음 (Afterlife with Image: Life and Death in Portraiture)

  • Pliny the Elder said that multiple cultures agree that the painting began as a shadow trace. A daughter of Butades, the potter in Corinth, traced an outline around a man's shadow, and it was the very beginning of painting. In this anecdote, the profile, i. e. the portrait substitutes body of the absent lover. It makes the absent body present and replaces his place. In this context Hans Belting put the anthropological value to this visual practice. Human being made images to cope actively with the shock of death and the disappearing of body. With the aid of the representation of the bodily presence, the image struggles to resist the death. This paper is a study on the critical meaning of representation in the context of bodily survival by image. The representation is the paradoxical trick of consciousness, an ability to see something as 'there' and 'not there' at the same time. So the connection between image and the body would be suspicious. Although this relation was tight in the ancient shadow painting and the medieval effigies, the modern visual practice forsakes this connection and exposes the trick of representation. It insists that image was not real and even expels the medieval visual practice from the boundary of fine arts. The genealogy of the portraiture is formed by two different visual practices. The belief and the disbelief in the image are observed in the process of representation and anti-representation, and this ambivalence transforms the ontological meaning of portrait in the visual representation.

고대에서 18세기까지 지도학의 변천에서 나타나는 도시 로마의 재현에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Changes in the Cartographic Representation of the City of Rome from the Antiquity until the 18th Century)

  • This research focuses on the cadastre and cartographic tradition regarding the representation of Rome that had lasted until the middle of 18th Century. Since the early period of Roman Republic until the early 18th Century, map was considered as a effective medium to record the status of urban facts and also a manifestation of changing perception of reality. These facts allow to diagnose social and conventional changes that had occurred in the field of representation techniques and methodologies derived from diverse intention and objective in elaboration of each map. Cartography also has affinity to architectural drawing as many categories of individuals are involved, clients, researchers, craftsmen, publisher and collectors. Fundamental task of documenting the contemporary physical reality was given to the map, however, as architects had practiced through the drawings, cartographers also reconstruct in subjective way specific buildings and urban aspects according to various needs and demands. As such, philology and imagination play important role as two constitute extreme poles in the evolution of the cadastre. Through analysis of paradigmatic examples in the genealogy of cartography of Rome, it was possible to understand the changing episteme that testify the mentality and custom in the field of visual representation.

Lp(T2)-수렴성과 모리츠에 관하여 (On Lp(T2)-Convergence and Móricz)

  • This paper is concerned with the convergence of double trigonometric series and Fourier series. Since the beginning of the 20th century, many authors have studied on those series. Also, Ferenc $M{\acute{o}}ricz$ has studied the convergence of double trigonometric series and double Fourier series so far. We consider $L^p(T^2)$-convergence results focused on the Ferenc $M{\acute{o}}ricz^{\prime}s$ studies from the second half of the 20th century up to now. In section 2, we reintroduce some of Ferenc $M{\acute{o}}ricz^{\prime}s$ remarkable theorems. Also we investigate his several important results. In conclusion, we investigate his research trends and the simple minor genealogy from J. B. Joseph Fourier to Ferenc $M{\acute{o}}ricz$. In addition, we present the research minor lineage of his study on $L^p(T^2)$-convergence.

Genetic diversity of the Asian shore crab, Hemigrapsus sanguineus, in Korea and Japan inferred from mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene

  • The genetic diversity and population history of the Asian shore crab, Hemigrapsus sanguineus, were investigated with a nucleotide sequence analysis of 536 base pairs (bp) of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (COI) in 111 samples collected from four populations in Korea and one in Japan. In total, 28 haplotypes were defined by 27 variable nucleotide sites in the COI region examined. The observed haplotypes had a shallow haplotype genealogy and no geographical associations. Most of the populations had high haplotype diversity (0.656-0.788) and low nucleotide diversity (0.00165-0.00244), and significant negative values for Fu's $F_S$, suggesting rapid and recent population growth from an ancestral population and sudden population expansion. The pairwise fixation indices ($F_{ST}$) estimated with the exact test and the migration rates indicate that substantial gene flow occurs among these populations as a result of sea currents, except between the Yellow Sea coast of Korea (BUA) and the Pacific Ocean coast of Japan (JPA). These two populations (BUA and JPA) showed significant genetic differentiation and low migration rate.

통신교육의 계열화와 계층화 -고유한 교역의 형성을 위하여- (A Study on pluralistic Reformation for Education of Telecommunication -for Establishment of Individual System for Comm. Education-)

  • 사회적 유대와 인류공동체로서 통신작용은 수시 도처에서 인류생활과 밀착고 있다. 모든 통신작용은 그 주체인 인력과 그 이해 및 이용방법올 배양전수(傳授)하는 통신교육에 의하여 유지되고 개발되는 것이다. 통신작용은 기술적 요소를 포함 하지만 사회과정 또는 사회작용의 범주에 속함을 본질로 하기 때문에 사회적 요건을 겸비해야함을 원리로 하고 있다. 따라서 통신교육은 기술적인 내용과 사회적인 지식을 함께 포괄한 종합과학적인 시청에서 시도되고 실천되어야 할 독특성을 갖이고 있다. 그러나 최근 이 교육이 기술적 비중을 늘이면서 사회적 측면을 줄이는 불균형을 강요당함에 따라 그 본질적 속성과 독특성을 변질 혹은 상실해가는 위기롤 파생시키고 있다. 즉, 일개분과에 불과한 기술만으로서는 $\ulcorner$통신$\lrcorner$이라는 독자적 사회성과 통합과학성을 감당할 수도 없거니와 $\ulcorner$통신$\lrcorner$을 총체적으로 표징(養徵)할 수도 없는 1개요소에 그치고 말기 때문에 교육적체제의 주체성이냐 자율성은 고사하고 타에 종속돼 버리거나 부수하게되는 것으로 귀착되고 만다. 결국 $\ulcorner$통신영역$\lrcorner$이 자주성을 잃어가는 요인은 바로 이러한 경향에서 조성되거나 파생되고 있다고 볼 수 있는 것이다. 원래 통신학은 중충 다분과척(重層多分科的)인 현대과학의 원천이며 그 모체일 뿐 아니라 그 자체의 속성 이 인문, 사회 및 기솔 둥 분과를 포괄, 통합한 종합과학임이 그 원리이다. 그러므로 통신교육은 이 다원적 윈리와 그를 뒷받침하는 국제조약, 통신관계법 및 제 학설에 순응할 수 있게 복귀되지 않으면 아니된다. 우리나라에는 기위 이 통신원리에 입각한 교육적계보(系讀)와 교육이념이 정립, 계승뙈 왔었고 또 그 이념에 바탕올 가진 교육목표를 지향하여 독자적이고 자율적인 교육체제밑에서 합리적이고 효과적인 교육실효을 거두어 왔다. 다만, 1961年 당시 한번의 그릇된 정책결정이 통신교육의 유일한 정통적(正統的) 표본이었던 체신학교를 즉흥적으로 폐쇄케 해버렸고 또 이 교육에 대한 국가적관리를 분산 약화했기 때푼에 오늘날 통신교육은 실향탈적(失鄭脫籍)펀 이산난민과 같이 되어 가고만 있는 것이다. 그러나 현재 통신학(通信學)원라는 현대과학적 강도를 심화, 고도화해 가고 있ξ며 이것올 방증(傍證)해주는 각종 국제협약과 법령이 유효하게 현행되고 있을뿐 아니라 그 교육내용의 다원척 본질이 불변일관(不變一實) 되고 있다. 그러므로 통신교육을 위한 교육관계법이나 교육행정은 그 종합적 원리에 적응할 수 있게 보완 개정되어야 함이 요청된다. 그리하여 통신교육을 위한 전문적 계열과 체계적 등급이 정착화되어 하나의 독사적이고 통합적인 교통(敎洗)과 자율적 교역(敎域)이 복원(復元) 쟁취 되어야 함이 절실한 실정이다. 통신교육은 통신과학적 원리를 저초(底魔)로한 독립적 계열화와 합리적 계층화를 통하여 그 독특한 교육 체제를 점거(占據) 함으로서 다른 동위(同位) 계열과 대응하게 공존공영할 수 있으며 내재적 각 운과릎 유기적으로 포괄, 집약, 유효화할 수 있는 것이다. 통신교육의 횡적계열은 독립되어 다른 계열에 속함이 없이 동위적이어야 하며 내재적 구분은 통신관리, 설비기술 및 통신연구로 3분화되고 그 종적 계총은 고교, 전운대, 대학 및 대학원의 학적 位階에 준하되 필요에 따라서는 보다 수직적인 세분이 가능하다. 이러한 종횡적 체계화와 그 독자적 체제의 확립은 문교법령과 국가적 차원의 교육행정을 보완 개선함에서 그 시점을 삼어야 한다고 볼 수 있는 것이다. 결국 통신교육을 위한 교육적 체제는 전기통신의 제원리(諸原理)와 이것을 방증(傍證)하는 제법리 및 이용 사회의 다변적 요청에 따라 관계 각 분과가 하나로 집약된 독자적 계열을 형성하여야 하며 충분한 운용상 자율성을 부여 받아야 한다. 전기통신이 고유의 교육계보를 되찾고 그 전문적 敎統과 자율적 교역이 확립, 형성될 수 있다면 그 원리가 교육현장에로 확대되어갈 것 이기 때문에 그 동안 본의 아니게 파생된 수다한 다의적 역리(逆理)와 탈선된 부조리가 통신영역에서 제거될 수 있어 밝은 그 본질(本質)이 회생(回生)될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Global Utopia and Local Anxiety on the Stage of the Korean Musical

  • The purpose of this essay is three-fold: to trace the genealogy of the Korean musical, which ever since its inception in the 1960s has been seeking to modernize Korean theater with Broadway as a constant role model; to investigate how the national and the global conflict and are conflated in the form of the Korean musical in the process of its (dis)identification with Broadway; and to examine how its intercultural translations reveal and reflect the dilemma and ambivalence posed by globalization in our era. Drawing on Richard Dyer's signature article Entertainment and Utopia, I analyze how the Korean musical manifests and conduits competing utopian impulses of Korean/Global audiences. I also attempt to problematize the formulaic notion of Broadway musicalsthe Superior Other!which implies a global hegemony that does not, in fact, exist because the boundary between the global and the local as well as the power dynamics of global culture are not fixed but constantly moving and changing. Today's musical scene in Korea shows interesting reversals from the 1990s, when Korean producers were eager to debut on Broadway and impress American audiences. Korean producers no longer look up to Broadway as a final destination; instead they want to make Seoul a new Broadway. They import Broadway musicals and turn them into Korean shows. The glamor of Broadway is no longer the main attraction of musicals in Korea. What young audiences look for most is the glamor of K-pop idols and utopian feelings of abundance, energy, intensity, transparency and community, which they can experience live in the musical with their favorite stars right in front of their eyes. In conclusion, I delve into the complex dynamics of recent Korean musicals with Thomas Friedman's theory of Globalization 3.0 as reference. The binary formula of Global/America versus Local/Korea cannot be applied to the dynamic and intercultural musical scene of today. Globalization is not a uniform phenomenon but rather a twofold (multifold) process of global domination and dissemination, in which the global and the local conflict and are conflated constantly. As this study tries to illuminate, the Korean musical has evolved in a huge net of interdependences between the global and the local with a range of sources, powers and influences.
