A 5-year-old male Labrador Retriever that lived outdoors was presented to the animal hospital with a right hind limb lameness. The lameness had been present for more than 10 days, and there was a severe swelling of the right stifle joint. The dog underwent physical, laboratory, and radiographic examinations. As a result, the dog was diagnosed with infectious monoarthropathy secondary to granulocytic ehrlichiosis. The dog received medication for the rickettsial arthritis and surgical treatment for reconstruction of the soft tissue damage caused by the infection. After treatment, the function of the dog's leg was recovered. This report describes a case of atypical monoarthropathy caused by ehrlichiosis in a dog.

The purpose of this study was to find out the purchasing practices and consumer's needs for pet dog apparel to provide useful information for the manufacture of pet dog's apparel. Data were obtained from 203 consumers who have purchased dog apparel(55 male, 148 female). 57.9% of them were 20-30 years old, 27.9% were living in houses, 54.3% were apartment residents. The kinds of dog included were Shihtzu, Martise, and Yorkshireterrier, and 2/3 of the respondents own a single dog, the remainder have at least two dogs. The most important factor to consider when purchasing dog apparel was size, followed by comfort, design, and materials in that order, Most of the apparel was purchased with convenience as the primary consideration, and the average price was 10-30 thousands won, and the items were purchased at pet beauty shops or specialty shops. For materials, it showed that the majority preferred cotton or a cotton mixture which was woven or woven with knit. The survey revealed that the main purposes for the apparel were, in order, to protect the dog from cold weather and direct sunlight, to be good looks and to memorialize a special day. Consumers put the apparel on their dogs 1-3 times per week, on average, and also when they went out for a walk. They were satisfied with the design, color and quality of the material now on the market, but unsatisfied with size and price. They have a preference for cute, but simple designs and a functional style. The respondents wanted to have material that was mild or neutral, stain-resistant, and something that would repel insects.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a mesenchymal tumor and is associated with a specific immunophenotype index. It is very important to identify the specific immunophenotype and the diagnosis for the treatment GIST patients. Ninety two cases of GIST analyzed in this study were immuno-stained for c-kit, DOG1, CD34, PKC-${\theta}$, PDGFR-${\alpha}$. The rate of positive staining and statistical significance were then compared. In addition, the GISTs were analyzed as followings: very low risk, low risk, intermediate risk and high risk according to tumor size and nuclear division, and later correlated with clinical parameters. The results of the GIST positive stainings were: DOG1 (95.7%), PKC-${\theta}$ (90.2%), PDGFR-${\alpha}$ (88.0%), c-kit (87.0%) and CD34 (71.7%). Only DOG1 staining showed a statistical significance of p<0.05. It was identified in the classification system of histologic risk that staining expression of DOG1, PKC-${\theta}$, PDGFR-${\alpha}$ were significantly increased as histologic risk increases (p<0.05). However, clinical parameters such as age and sex of patients have no correlations with the classification system of histologic risk (p>0.05). Therefore, in this study, the expression of DOG1 showed statistical significance and DOG1, PKC-${\theta}$, PDGFR-${\alpha}$ staining increased significantly as the histologic risk increases in histologic classification system. Taken together, the DOG1 staining should be very effective for the diagnosis of GIST patients.

Animal companionship is gaining popularity in Korea, and interest in dog walking is also increasing as a strategy to maintain the physical and mental health of dogs and dog owners. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception and satisfaction of dog owners with the neighborhood environments for dog walking and to examine the willingness to pay (WTP) for an off-leash dog park. Of a total of 249 online survey respondents, 47.8% said they take a walk at least once a day and mainly walk around nearby neighborhoods or parks. Respondents showed a high attachment to their dogs and recognized that dog walks help increase physical activity and maintain the health of owners and their dogs. The satisfaction with neighborhood environments, such as attractive views and the connection of walking trails, was low, and there was a high demand for off-leash dog parks. The truncated mean WTP was estimated to be 85,618 Korean Won, and the result of regression analysis and t-test revealed that walking frequency and the satisfaction with dog walking facilities were statistically significant in the WTP. In order to encourage dog walking to promote physical activity and health, more attention needs to be devoted to improving neighborhood environments for dog walking.

This study was performed to investigate the characteristics within ages and freezing tolerance of spermatozoa in Jindo Dog. Experimental animals were selected 12 herds within 1~8 year's old and collected semen for 2 times in a week. Collected semen was evaluated whole volume and sperm number with CASA system (SIAS, Medical Supply, Korea). Then seminal plasma were separated and diluted with modified Tris-egg yolk extender and added 4, 6 and 8% glycerol for 4 times to final concentration and equilibrated for 1.5 hrs. Before and after freezing, equilibrated semen were evaluated the survival rates. Total volume of sperm at 1~2 year old group is as $5.2{\times}10^8\;cells/ml$ largest and there were no significance among groups. The motility of 1~2 year old group is highest as 90.9% and there were significance among groups. Abnormal sperm showed similar among groups. The survival rate in terms of pre-freezing and post-freezing were decreased all levels of glycerol and reveled 87.0% to 64.5% in 4%, 87.5% to 51.9% in 6% and 73.4% to 29.7% in 8%, there were significant difference among the groups (p<0.05). These results suggest that the optimal sperm-freezing methods in Jindo Dog are utilized with modified Tris egg-yolk extender with 4% glycerol and were improve the reproductive activity by these methods.

Two cases of infection of Dipylidium caninum In dog is reported in Chonbuk area. Clinically, gravid proglotiid and eggs were present on the anal area and feces of dogs Infected with Dipylidium caninum. And the infected dogs were revealed diarrhea, wean, anorexia, emaciated and steady growth.

The closure of any circular or asymmetric wound can result in puckering or an excess of tissue known as a 'dog ear'. Understanding the mechanism of dog ear formation is a fundamental requirement necessary to facilitate an appropriate treatment. Many solutions have been reported in the literature, but in all cases, the correction entails the extension of the scar and the sacrifice of the dermal plexus. Here, we propose a novel technique of dog ear correction by using a three-bite suture that sequentially pierces the deep fascial plane and each dog ear's margin, thus allowing for flattening the dog ear by anchoring the over-projecting tissue to the deep plane. The three-bite technique proved to be a fast, easy, and versatile method of immediate dog ear correction without extending the scar, while maintaining a full and complete local skin blood supply.

The purpose of this study is to understand the evolution of food culture by applying the evolutionary mechanism to the process of forming the dog meat culture. To do this, this study first examined mutation, selection, and replication as a evolutionary mechanism by biological genes and explain the evolutionary process of food culture by applying so-called 'mime' which is a virally-transmitted cultural symbol or social idea. A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, practices, that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. In addition, this study also intended to use in-depth interviews on how people have diverse cultural perspectives interpret and accept edible culture of dog meat. In Korea, which was a traditional farming society, dog meat which is easier to obtain compare to beef has been chosen as an important source of protein. And this choice has been repeatedly reproduced through generations. However, the current generation's awareness of the edible culture of dog meat has changed. The meme of pet culture has been selected and replicated, and this cultural evolution will eventually lead to the culling of dog meat.

Systemic lupus erythematosus in a dog, suspected systemic lupus erythematosus in a dog, and autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura hemmorrhagica in a dog are reported. A fice-year old, female Chihuahua (Case 1) showed initially hemorrhagic diathesis and purpura hemorrhagica. Afterward, it showed polymyositis and polyarthritis. LE-cell was demonstrated on LE-cell preparation trom blood. Systemic lupus erythematosus was diagnosed. This reponded well to the immunosuppressants, but developed iatrogenic Cushing syndrome and steroid hepatopathy. A two-and-half-year old, male toy poodle (Case 2) had chief complaint of red urine. Occult blood test for the urine sediment. This did not respond at all to antibiotics and carbazochrome, which is one of systemic coagulants. LE-cell was demonstrated on LE-cell preparation from blood. This responded relatively well to immunosupressants such as prenisolone, azathioprine and cyclophosphamide. systemic lupus erythematosus is suspected. A nine-year-and-three-month old, female Maltese (Case 3), which had history of congestive heart failure and ovariohysterectomy showed purpura hemorrhagica in the skin of chest. This had severe thrombocytopenia and leukocytosis. As prednisolone was administered before immunological examination or demonstration of LE-cell, it was impossible to diagnose whether purpura hemorrhagica developed as a member of systemic lupus erythematosus or independent of systemic lupus erythematosus. This responded well to prednisolone, and so autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura hemorrhagica was diagnosed.
