  • A fifteen-year-old spayed female Pug was referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University. The clinical sign was a restriction of the movement of the headneck and acutely presented for 5 days ago. On the basis of physical, laboratory and radiological examinations, the dog was diagnosed acute torticollis (wry neck). We treated two times the dog with acupuncture therapy for 2 weeks. The acupuncture points BL10, BL11, LU7 and SI3 were used. When the dog was rechecked at three weeks after the therapy, torticollis was disappeared and voluntarily head movement found. Thus, it is suggested that traditional acupuncture might be effective therapy for acute torticollis.

  • Thermal burn occurred in the anesthetized dog as a result of using hot pack to treat hypothermia. After hospital discharge, thermal burn leaded to secondary infection due to dog bites of the other dog in the house. After secondary infection, the treatment was performed with medication and bandaging. Because of the pain and infection from the wound, carprofen (2 mg/kg bid) and amoxicillin (20 mg/kg bid) were administrated orally for 40 days. And for 35 days, wet-to-dry gauze dressing was used to absorb purulent exudate. During this period, the burn eschar was removed completely from the burn site. After 35 days, the hydrophilic polyurethane foam ($Medifoam^{(R)}$, Ildong Pharm, Co., Korea) was admitted to the burn site for 30 days. $Medifoam^{(R)}$ made healing rate of the wound faster because the inner layer did not adhered to the wound, and newly formed tissue was protected. The second layer, hydrophilic absorptive layer absorbed excessive fluid and kept the wound surface moist. After 65 days after thermal burn, the wound was healed completely.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results obtained from three surgical techniques (retinacular imbrication, trochleoplasty and tibia tuberosity transposition), which were simultaneously applied for correction of patellar luxation. Eleven, (6 to 108 months) old dogs were presented. The dogs showed, medial patellar luxation (17 stifle joint) and lateral patellar luxation (2 stifle joint) ranging from grade 1 to 4. By palpation and radiographic view, all 11 dogs were diagnosed as patellar luxation. Bilateral patellar luxation was diagnosed in 8 dogs. After operation, the dogs were monitored daily for 7 days and on the 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 30th days. Lameness progressively decreased in all dogs around 30 days after surgery, and the patients were showed normal walking. Normal walking was possible in 2 dogs after 4 days, in a dog after 5 days, a dog after 7 days, 3 dogs after 10 days,2 dogs after 15 days, a dog after 25 days and a dog after 30 days (Mean$\pm$S.E: 12.27$\pm$2.57). The recovery took 14 days in dogs with bilateral patellar luxation, and 9 days in dogs with unilateral patellar luxation. Trend of decrease of lameness grade in bilateral patellar corrected dogs were similar to that in unilateral patellar corrected dogs. Swelling, pain and fever disappeared on 7 days. In conclusion, combination of tibial tuberosity transposition, retinacular imbrication and trochleoplasty is appropriate for dogs with patellar luxation.

  • We experimented on AGV driving test with color CCD camera which is setup on it. This paper can be divided into two parts. One is image processing part to measure the condition of the guideline and AGV. The other is part that obtains the reference steering angle through using the image processing parts. First, 2 dimension image information derived from vision sensor is interpreted to the 3 dimension information by the angle and position of the CCD camera. Through these processes, AGV knows the driving conditions of AGV. After then using of those information, AGV calculates the reference steering angle changed by the speed of AGV. In the case of low speed, it focuses on the left/right error values of the guide line. As increasing of the speed of AGV, it focuses on the slop of guide line. Lastly, we are to model the above descriptions as the type of PID controller and regulate the coefficient value of it the speed of AGV.

  • A 6 month-old male Labrador retriever was presented for intermittent lameness on the left forelimb after exercise. The dog was suffering progressive lameness that had started two months before. On mediolateral radiographic view of the left elbow, proximal margin of the anconeal process was irregular. A lucent, indistinct line separating the anconeal process from the ulna was observed, when the elbow joint was flexed. The lateral approach to the elbow joint was used and the ununited anconeal process was removed. The limb was bandaged after surgery for 7 days to support soft tissue and exercises were restricted. The dog showed normal limb function 3 weeks after surgery. On a telephone conversation with the owner 18 months after surgery, the dog was reported to maintain normal function of the limb.

  • A 7-year-old spayed female Shih-tzu dog with 4-month history of anorexia and weight loss was diagnosed with splenic hemangiosarcoma. One week after splenectomy, the dog developed severe, multifocal, coalescing erosive and ulcerative dermatosis with epidermal collarettes and crusts on the dorsal trunk. The dog was prescribed systemic antibiotics comprising cephradine and enrofloxacin postoperatively. Histopathological examination of skin biopsies from haired skin lesions revealed changes consistent with pemphigus foliaceus (PF). Tentative diagnosis for this patient was pemphigus-like drug reaction resulting from cephradine treatment. However, given the dog's history of hemangiosarcoma, paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP), a rarely reported cancer-related pemphigus in dogs, was also considered for tentative diagnosis. Significant clinical remission of dermal lesions was achieved with four weeks of prednisolone and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) treatment. Drugs were gradually tapered and eventually discontinued with concurrent reduction of dermal lesions, and no further recurrence was noted.

  • An 11-year-old, 4.3 kg, mixed breed, intact female dog exhibiting vomiting and a reduced appetite was presented. On physical examination, palpation of the right kidney elicited discomfort. Blood analysis revealed leukocytosis with neutrophilia, and elevation of alkaline phosphatase and blood urea nitrogen. Escherichia coli was detected in urine culture, whereas urine analysis showed absence of glucose. Radiography and ultrasonography suggested that there was gas in the right renal parenchyma, and computed tomography was performed while the dog was awake to investigate the suspected gas in the right kidney. After unilateral ureteronephrectomy, a histological diagnosis of right emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) was made. EPN refers to a severe necrotizing infection of the renal parenchyma with gas accumulation in the tissue. It is rare in both human and veterinary medicine, and almost all EPN patients have uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. This case report describes the imaging-based diagnosis of a rare occurrence of unilateral EPN in a non-diabetic dog.

  • A 14-month-old, intact female Maltese (case 1) and a 26-month-old, spayed female Dachshund (case 2) had persistent regurgitation over 1 year and 2 years, respectively. In both cases, there were not specific findings in blood examination. Diagnostic imaging and fluoroscopy revealed that gastroesophageal reflux (GER) occurred when the patients ate a barium meal without abdominal contraction. They were treated with proton-pump inhibitor (esomeprazole), sucralfate and prokinetics (cisapride) while in a standing position for an hour after every meal, according to the gastroesophageal disease (GERD) suggested treatment. The case 1 dog was discharged with improved clinical signs, and the case 2 dog also had been improved clinical signs; however, aspiration pneumonia occurred in case 2, which was thought to be a complication from GERD. After receiving treatment for aspiration pneumonia, the case 2 dog was discharged from the hospital. Since there was no further improvement in symptoms after discharge, the case 1 dog was euthanized by owner's request, and the case 2 is alive, having only mild clinical signs upon the writing of this paper.
