Construction industry is an important key industry and many measures to revitalize it as local economy has been stagnant. However, construction industry works combined with governmental policies, global and local economies, populations, construction companies and many other related factors, and it is very hard for those counter-plans to meet every need and goal of the related. In this study, interviews and questionnaires of the professionals of the construction industry in Busan, were carried out, to find the cause of the inactivity of the construction market, the problems of the policies and regulations, and the problems of the construction companies in Busan and the solutions were suggested. The realistic master-plans and the reduction of the cost price for the problems of the redevelopment business having no feasibility, the reasonable relaxation of the restrictions for the problems of the governmental policies, the professional training and education for the lack of the high-quality human resources and the working system changes for the problems of the local construction companies turned out as results. The results of the study will be a chance to understand the different ideas of the professionals, and help with the plans to improve and to revitalize the local construction industry. Continuous development of construction industry and enhancement of its global competitiveness must be supported by research and development(R&D) for new technology. However, the R&D investment in Korean construction industry is lower than those in other industries. The R&D investment by Korean government is also insufficient comparing with other governments. This paper investigates the R&D investment status in Korean construction industry and reviews the outcomes of the R&D in relation with construction new technology and patent. Based on the investigations of the present status, new direction of the construction R&D is suggested.

The growth-share matrix is a portfolio planning tool developed by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to assist competitive positioning in the international market including those in the construction industry. This matrix is helpful in balancing the firm's cash-flow, and it can suggest strategic directions for each business unit. However, its effectiveness and applicability have long been debated in the academic field due to the complex and unique industrial context of construction. To solve the dispute, this research clarifies the applicability of theories underlying the growth-share matrix to the construction industry. Empirical research based on actual financial data of Korean construction firms is adopted for the statistical analysis including one-way analysis of variance and correlation analysis. The results of this research show that empirical findings on the relationship between performance variables. In this context, this research can provide important insights on the concept of portfolio management in the construction industry.

The construction market has a major impact on the overall United States economy. Recent statistics estimate the gross domestic product (GDP) of the U.S. construction industry at some $416.4{\$}$ billion dollars, representing approximately $4.5\%$ of the U.S. GDP. Because the business environment in construction is highly competitive, the participants in the industry must improve their performance and processes to survive. Hence, Benchmarking has been generating interest in the construction industry. This paper provides an overview of the CII Benchmarking and Metrics Program. Following some background and a descriptive discussion of the database, an abridged presentation of result of data analysis. The adoption of benchmarking in Korean construction industry can be another opportunity to improve Korean construction industry.

In Korea, the productivity of the construction industry is evaluated at a very low level, and the utilization of the elemental technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is also very low compared to other industries. In order to solve this problematic situation, it is necessary to identify the demand for technology improvement in the specialty construction industry that is directly in charge of construction in projects. Therefore, this study aims to investigate improving construction competitiveness and the demand for technology improvement in Korea's specialty construction industry. First, the concept and status of classification of the specialized construction industry were identified, and a questionnaire was organized. Second, a survey was conducted on experts construction experts, and the demand for technical improvement of the specialty construction industry was derived by applying AHP and cluster analysis. The results of this study will serve as a practical reference for policy development, R&D direction, and technology development roadmap to enhance construction competitiveness in the future, and ultimately will help to present directions to improve the construction competitiveness of the construction industry.

Accompanied by Chinese strong economic growth rates and development of demand for the construction industry, Chinese construction industry has already become one of the largest construction markets in the world. Unfortunately, the frequent occurrence of safety incidents on Chinese construction sites is a large obstacle for other countries construction companies seeking to enter the Chinese construction market. This study aims to analyze and compare the safety awareness of Chinese and Korean construction workers. Our research showed that the safety awareness of Korean construction workers is far higher than that of their Chinese counterparts, particularly in terms of the efficiency of safety education and the observance of safety rules. The development of a safety management plan based on these results will contribute to reducing the frequency of accidents on Chinese construction sites.

The construction liability type CM has been introduced in the form of a pilot project through public institutions since 2017 since it was introduced in the term of construction responsibility type construction project management in the Basic Law of Construction Industry in 2011 with the aim of improving the constitution of the Korean construction industry and strengthening global competitiveness. Through the introduction of construction-responsible CM, the government intends to change the paradigm of the overall construction industry, including design and construction, construction costs, disputes between stakeholders, and transparency of business. In this regard, the study aims to compare and analyze the evaluation methods on the bidding guide that public institutions (LH) are currently using to select companies in order to lay the foundations for successful construction of construction-responsible CM ordering methods.

The construction industry in the local areas business as the archetypal local one is effectuating industrial production, create employment and so on to perform a significant part in keeping local economy also reviving sluggish economy. The construction stagnation in market may cause severe economic depression in local which leads to having a crippling impact on local constructive industry, in terms of the phenomenon is on the interrelation between the local construction industry and local economy, with regard to local economy which is not covered by firm based industries is wield strong influenced over by construction industry. The object of this study is to research possible improvement factors on the preferential basis by only companies' efforts, therefore the policy of government or local self-governing body in support may be unnecessarily involved after grasping faced practical problems at regional construction companies from analysing the present condition of local construction marketplace and companies.

Quantity Surveying Profession is a new breed with a history of only less than seven years in S. Korea' s Construction Industry. In this paper, the research aims to investigate the background of the market entrance of this profession in Korean Construction Industry, and the current market direction and future market demands. The research concludes that climate changes in Real Estate markets in relation to Project Financing practices caused by economic crisis of late 1997's, enabled the UK originated QSP sustainable in S. Korea. Moreover it was pointed out that the services of QSP current available in S. Korea's market attributed the different aspect compared to traditional quantity surveying services prevailed in UK. Finally it was apparent that the evolutional direction of the future quantity surveying market in S. Korea is most likely toward multidisciplinary skilled services profession processing not only broader architectural knowledges but cost consciousness, specialty in construction costs and construction contract aspects and transparency in ethical manner.
