Analysis of specific character of environment-friendly material-produced rice

  • The effects of mixtures of each of rice hull charcoal and wood charcoal with pyroligneous acid on the cultivation and antioxidant activities of rice were investigated. Results of the total phenolic compounds, DPPH radical electron-donating ability and xanthine oxidase stress activity analyses revealed that the environment-friendly materials increased the total antioxidant capacity in rice. In the case of palatability of rice, total amylose blue value and starch-I2color reaction analyses, data showed that environment-friendly materials generally decreased the amylose content of rice. Also, the environment-friendly materials improved the rice endosperm quality.

친환경 건축물의 자재에 관한 연구 (The Materials of Earth Friendly Architecture)

  • Earth friendly system is applied widely to industries for maintaining development. The declaration of earth friendly characteristic which is an indication of the total amount of energy in evaluation of earth friendly material is not easy to apply to building materials Therefore, Accurate standards about earth friendly materials are necessary. Earth friendly building materials should be considered in the fields of energy and resource consumption, changes in urban climate and resident health, etc. Among these fields, energy and resource consumption has released toxic pollutants into the air, caused indoor moisture problems and exhausted resources continuously. Especially, moisture problem is an indicator of main factors of earth friendly characteristic. Timber, Soil. Cement Mortar and Charcoal are used to examine the sustainable properties of materials of moisture control. The result shows that wood, charcoal and soil is vivid in changes of moisture absorption and discharge in comparison with that of cement mortar.

  • 매미나방 종령유층 혈림프내에 존재하는 JHBP을 Dextran Coated Charcoal (DCC)binding assay와 gel filtration에 의해서 확인하였고, JHBP의 pI값은 5.3으로 밝혀졌다. JHBP의 정저는 혈림프단백질을 먼저 PEG로 침전시킨 후 ion exchange chromatography와 gel filtration 방법을 통하여 행하였다. 정체된 fraction의 JH에 대한 binding activity는 [3H] JH-III의 radioactivity 측정과 DCC binding assay를 통해 확인하였고, 정체된 단백질의 순수도는 각 정체단계에 따라 전지영동을 하여 확인하였다.

  • Symptomatic neuromas after amputation can be troublesome to treat and make it difficult to properly fit a brace. Surgical management is required when conservative management such as prosthetic socket modification or local injections fail. However, small cutaneous nerves adhere to adjacent soft tissue and they are difficult to locate. The authors suggest that ultrasonography guided tattoo localization using a charcoal suspension is useful to find a visually indistinguishable neuroma.

환원분이기에 따른 ZnO:Zn 형광체의 합성 및 그 형광 특성 (Synthesis of ZnO:Zn Phosphors with Reducing Atmosphere and Their Luminescence Properties)

  • Cathodoluminescence(CL) properties of ZnO:Zn green phosphor were investigated. ZnO:Zn phosphor was synthesized by varying reducing agents and firing temperatures. ZnS, charcoal and 5% H2 gas mixed with 95% N2 gas(5H2-95N2) were used as the reducing agent and atmosphere. The highest CL intensity of ZnO:Zn phosphor was observed under the condition of 5H2-95N2 atmosphere and firing temperature of 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h. Charocal and ZnO as reducing agents in the syntehsis of ZnO:Zn phosphor exhibited about 60% and 40%, respectively, of the CL intensity obtained with 5H2-95N2 atmosphere.

Effect of Propolis Volatiles from a Stingless Honeybee(Apidae : Meliponinae) on the Immune System of Elderly Residents in a Nursing Home

  • We report an evaluation of the immunostimulatory effect of propolis volatiles from a stingless honeybee. We studied 34 elderly residents at a special nursing home. Twenty-one subjects were treated with propolis, 8 with $Binch\hat{o}$ charcoal and 5 subjects acted as controls. Subjects treated with either propolis or Bincho charcoal were housed in rooms separated from the other non-study residents in the nursing home. The effects of each treatment on natural killer (NK) cell activity and lymphocyte levels were examined after 2 months and then for a longer period. The results indicated that NK cell activity was significantly improved to that within the normal range only after propolis treatment.

마이크로파 가열에 의한 스테인레스강 분진의 환원 (Reduction of Stainless Steelmaking Dust by Microwave Heating)

  • 마이크로파 가열 공정에 의하여 스테인레스강 제조시의 발생하는 분진의 환원거동올 환원제로서 코크스와 목탄을 이용하여 조사하였다. 원래 상태의 펠릿 분진과 환원제로서, 펠릿을 만든 분진을 마이크로파 가열오븐 내에서 $1000^{\circ}C$까지 가열하여 환원시켰다. 코크스에 비하여 목탄의 경우가 더 높은 환원율율을 나타내었다. 마이크로파 오븐에서 500W와 700W의 사용한 경우 유사한 환원율을 나타냈으며 200분 이내에 급속하게 환원되였다. 환원정도는 Fe>Ni>Cr로 감소되었다.

오존 환경에 대한 잡종 포플러 묘목의 가스 교환과 생장에 관한 연구 (Ozone-environmental Effects on Gas Exchange and Growth of Hybrid Poplar (Populus trichocarpa $\times$ P. deltoides) Seedlings)

  • Hybrid poplar (Populus trichocarpa $\times$ P. deltoides) clones were fumigated with ozone. Fumigation was applied for 6 to 8 hours each day for approximately 3 months at ozone concentrations of 0.090 to 0.115 ppm using by open-top chambers. Growth and biomass of hybrid poplar seedlings were reduced by ozone exposure. Mean percentage of falling leaves in ozone-treated plant was 6 times higher than that of charcoal-filtered plant. Among physiological responses, rate of photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration and initial Rubisco activity were significantly lower in seedlings grown in ozone environment compared seedlings grown in charcoal-filtered air. All these physiological results supported that biochemical process to be a key feature to understand reduction in photosynthesis.
