Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of combination treatment of herbal medicine for external use and western medicine for atopic dermatitis (AD). Methods: We searched randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which assess the effect of combination treatment of herbal and western medicine for AD through 8 electronic databases from the start to December 2022. The data synthesis was conducted by using Review Manager (RevMan, ver.5.4.1) and Cochrane risk-of-bias tool was used to evaluate the risk of bias. Results: 13 RCTs were included. The combination treatment group had significantly higher total efficacy rate(p<0.0001) and lower SCORAD score (p<0.00001) than the western medicine treatment group. The adverse event rate was also significantly lower in the combination treatment than the western medicine treatment group (p<0.0001). But there was no significant difference in recurrence rate (p=0.09). Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the combination treatment of herbal and western medicine could be safe and effective for AD. However, due to limits of included studies such as high heterogeneity between the literature and unclear risk of bias, further studies are warranted.
This study investigated the Oriental medicine knowledge and educational requirement of medical staff working in Oriental-Western collaborative medicine hospitals(except for Oriental and Western medicine doctors) based on the recognition that not only mutual understanding and cooperation between Oriental and Western medicine doctors but also the knowledge of Oriental medicine of medical support staff such as nurses, medical technologists, pharmacists and administrative staff are very important to promote Oriental-Western collaborative medical treatment. The study results are summarized as follows : First, it was found that the ratio of nurses who took Oriental medicine education was much higher than those of other groups. They took Oriental medicine education in the types of school curriculum (27.0%) and special lectures in workplace(20.4%). Objective : The purpose of this study is to understand aging and skin aging with both western and Korean medicine. Methods : We investigated the comprehension of general aging and skin aging in both western and Korean medicine through literature review. Result : The results are as follows. 1. Aging in western is a complex process influenced by telomere shortening and damage to cellular DNA. In Korean medicine, it is supposed that decline of interaction between yin(陰) and yang(陽) makes aging. 2. Skin aging in western medicine consists of intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging. In Korean medicine, skin aging goes with the aging of whole body and distinctive features of geroderma notice the unbalance of the whole body function. 3. Generally geroderma has decreased development of cells and low immunity, which is the function of kidney(腎) in Korean medicine. Conclusion : Further studies are needed to apply comprehension of skin aging in Korean medicine to clinical stage.

The result from the research on the disease classifications of the traditional medicine in China, Japan, Taiwan, and North Korea are followings: 1. It is remarkable that China has two different classifications. One is of the diseases named by western medicine and the other is of the syndromes compounded with parts, characters, and pathology of the diseases. The Traditional Chinese Medicine has 615 codes for diseases in 7 departments, and 1684 codes for syndromes. It seems that they have tried to match each disease named by the traditional chinese medicine to each one named by western medicine. But, they have left the diseases impossible to be equivalent to the ones in western medicine themselves and used the same codes of western medicine when the diseases are the same ones in western medicine. 2. In Taiwan, they try to connect the diseases named by the traditional medicine to the ones named by western medicine based on ICD-9. But, they did not attempt to classify the diseases of the traditional medicine by its own ways. The names of diseases in Taiwan medicine include both diseases and syndromes. It is limited to name syndromes by the traditional medicine. And, Taiwan medicine follows ICD in naming injuries. 3. Japan has not got the disease classification for the causes of death, but only the Japanese disease classification for the causes of death, a translation 'The international disease classification for the causes of death. Therefore, The diseases named by traditional medicines are excluded in the public medicine by some Japanese medicines which diagnose through the western medicine and treat by Wa Kang medicine. 4. I can't find out the data over the disease classification for the causes of death by traditional medicine in North Korea. Instead, I can refer to case histories in which differentiation of symptoms and signs and points about them by traditional medicine and the final diagnoses and report about examination by the western medicine has been recorded. In conclusion, It is a distinctive feature that they connect the diseases and the syndromes by the traditional medicine to the ones by the western medicine, and don't tell the diseases from the syndromes.

Objectives : To investigate the effectiveness of Korean Medicine services use on the all-cause mortality and incidence of Parkinson's disease(PD) in elderly patients with chronic disease based on the National Health Insurance Service Corhort Database (elderly), called as the NHIS-senior. Methods : This study was a retrospective cohort analysis conducted using the NHIS-senior. Patients with chronic diseases over 65 years old who were not diagnosed PD during 2007-2009 were identified. The case group was defined as patients who used both Korean Medicine and Western Medicine services and the control group consisted of patients who used Western Medicine service only. The all-cause mortality and incidence of PD was analyzed using the Cox proportional hazard model after a propensity score matching(PSM) with a 1:1 ratio. Results : After PSM, the cohort included 47,546 subjects (23,773 in the case group, 23,773 in the control group). Sex, age, comorbidity, severity of disability, and neurology medical service utilization were adjusted in both groups. The mortality was 0.668 times (95% C.I.: 0.646-0.690) lower in the case group than the control group, which was statistically significant (p<0.001). The incidence of PD was 1.051 times (95% C.I.: 0.962-1.148) higher in the case group than the control group, which was not statistically significant(p=0.272). Conclusion : It was not obvious that the use of both Korean Medicine service and Western Medicine services for prevention of PD is benefitial than using only Western Medicine. But it would be possible that using both Korean Medicine and Western Medicine services decreases the mortality than using Western Medicine alone.
