  • The present study was performed to establish the cephalometric norms and to study characteristics of craniofacial skeleton of Korean male and female with normal occlusion. The author studied and analyzed statistically vertical cephalometric measurements of the 52 adult male ranging in age from 18 to 26 years and 43 adult female ranging in age from 16 to 30 years with normal occlusion and acceptable profile. The results were as follows; 1. Cephalometric craniofacial norms and standard deviation chart were abtained about adult Korean male and female with normal occlusion. 2. Vertical dimensions of the craniofacial skeleton were larger in male than in female. 3. Lower face was more divergent in female than in male. 4. In simple correlation coefficients between vertical linear mesurements in male and female, high correlation were shown between ATFH and ALFH, PTFH and PLFH, ALFH and ALDH, PLFH and PLDH.

  • Chronic adminstraction of morphine to adult male rats has long been known to lower hepatic cytochrome p-450 content and its dependent mixed-function oxidase activity. Following the treatment of adult male rats with morphine, pethidine pentazocine and codeine and also by concomitant adminstration of naloxone activities of microsomal electron transfer in the adult male rats were examined. In present study, the acute treatment of mature male rats with a dose of narcotic drugs higher than that used chronically also reduces their hepatic cytochrome p-450.

  • This study intended to calculate the cephalometric norms of Korean adult and to compare those with norms of the North American Caucasian by Moyers. Cephalometric headplates of 41 males and 31 females ranged in age from eighteen to twenty-six with normal occlusion and pleasing face were employed for this investigation. The tracings of the standard lateral cephalograms were analyzed by Moyers' method. As a result of this study, the following conclusion can be made. 1. Norms of Korean adult male and female were calculated. 2. There was no significant sexual difference in the basic craniofacial morphology. 3. The size of craniofacial skeleton was larger in male than in female. 4. The Korean male showed lower value of mandibular plane angle to craial base than that of the Caucasian male. 5. There was no significant difference in the anterior total facial height, however, in the posterior facial height the Korean male was larger than the Caucasian male, which manifested that the Korean male held more square-shaped profile. 6. The anteroposterior length of anterior and posterior cranial base, maxillary and mandibular skeletal and dentoalveolar effective length of the Korean male were shorter than those of the Caucasian male, and this suggested that the craniofacial profile depth of the Korean male was shorter than that of the Caucasian male.

  • In order to better understand the effects of absorbed radioiodine upon Korean reference adult male, a mathematical phantom representation was contrived based on composite data of the physiology of Korean reference adult male. Using this, S-values of radioiodine($^{131}I$) per each organ were calculated. The calculated S-values were compared to the existing data described in the TM-8381 report of ORNLcalculated on the basis of an ICRP-23 reference male. The results indicated that S-values were higher for the phantom based on Korean reference adult male. The results of this study illustrate that, while the bio-chemical constitution of each source and target organ of the torso are important, the relative location of the organs and characteristics of the radionuclides also exert important influences.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the factors associated with intention to quit smoking in community-dwelling male adult smokers in Korea. Methods: This study was cross-sectional research that used data of 4,010 male smokers. Data from the 2013 Community Health Survey were analyzed through multiple logistic regression. Results: Of the male adult smokers, 65.64% reported that they had an intention to quit smoking. In the logistic regression analysis, age, amount of smoking per day, previous attempts to quit smoking, exposure to smoking-quitting campaigns, and toothbrushing after lunch were significantly associated with intention to quit smoking. Conclusion: These factors should be considered in developing policies and population-based smoking cessation programs to increase smoking cessation among Korean men.

  • The aim of this study is to present the basic reference data of age and specipic gait parameters for Korean Adult. The basic gait parameters were extracted from 20 Adult, 10 men and 10 women, 21 to 24 years of age using VICON 512 Motion Analyzer. The temporal gait parameters and kinematic parameters of Korean Adult similar to other western reference data. The results were as follows: 1) The mean Cadence of the male to the female were 113.5 steps/min to 117.6 steps/min. 2) The mean Walking Speed of the male to the female were 1.30 m/s, to 1.27 m/s. 3) The mean Stride Length of the male to the female were 1.35 m, to 1.30 m. 4) The mean maximal angles of pint on the pelvic tilt motion for different male to the female were $9.80^{\circ}$ to $7.75^{\circ}$. (p<0.05) 5) The mean maximal angles of pint on the hip flexion motion for different male to the female were $22.62^{\circ}$ to $27.65^{\circ}$. (p<0.05) 6) The mean maximal angles of pint on the knee flexion motion for different male to the female were $55.78^{\circ}$ to $55.49^{\circ}$. (p>0.05) 7) The mean maximal angles of pint on the ankle dorsiflexion motion for different male to the female were $12.47^{\circ}$ to $13.39^{\circ}$. (p>0.05).

  • Objective: To compare the electromyographic activity of masseter and temporal muscles between bruxers and nonbruxers in adult and adolescent patients. Material and Methods: The samples composed of the surface electromyography (EMG) recordings obtained from the orthodontic patients. Sixty-eight patients who had bruxsim habit (43 female and 25 male) were divided into four groups according to their age and gender. Control groups consisted of 79 patients who had not bruxism habit. EMG of the masseter muscle and anterior temporal muscle were recorded before treatment in clenching at maximum intercuspation. The ratio of temporal and masseter muscle activity (T/M ratio) was compared between bruxers and nonbruxers in adult and adolescent patients. Results: EMG of masseter muscle and temporal muscle were significantly higher in adult male bruxism group than control. T/M ratio in adult male bruxism group was significantly lower than in adult male nonbruxism group. However, there was no significant difference in T/M ratio between adolescent bruxism group and adolescent nonbruxism group. Conclusions: The balance in the activity of the masseter and temporal muscles may not differ between bruxers and nonbruxers during adolescent periods. However, in adult period, the masseter muscle activity against temporal muscle is greater in males with bruxism habit compared to non-bruxer.

  • Male specific protein (MSP) was identified and purified from the hemolymph of Galleria melloneffa L. by electrophoresis and anion exchange chromatography. MSP has a native molecular weight of 55 kDa as determined by gel filtration chromatography and consists of a single unit with the apparent molecular weight of 27 kDa and has the pl of approximately 5.8. MSP is present in the hemolymph from day 8 pupae throughout the male adult. MSP was also found in pupal fat body, adult fat body, and adult testis.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find the difference in lung function effects between a healthy adult male smoker, non-smoker after inspiratory muscle breathing training. Design: Quasi-experiment design. Method: In this study, we want to compare the effects of the inspiratory muscle breathing training smoker group (n=11) and non-smoker group (n=10) to target the healthy adult 21 people. All participated underwent 30 minutes of inspiratory muscle breathing training (5 times per week, for a total of 4 weeks). Using the spirometer in order to examine the ability to lung function EVC, ERV, FEV1/FVC was measured. Result: The results showed that the smoker group FVC and FEV1 increased statistically significantly (p<0.05). The results showed that the non-smoker group FVC and FEV1 increased statistically significantly (p<0.05). There was no statistical difference between them. Conclusion: This study tested the adult male smoker and the adult male non-smokers using inspiratory muscle breathing training the effect of smoking on lung function.
