Social support from colleague and supervisor, work autonomy, psychological wellbeing at work, and intellectual and emotional work demand were assessed. Results: After considering sociodemographic factors, smoking, occupational characteristics and other psychosocial work environment factors, problem drinking was associated with "intellectual work demand" for the 20~34 year old group. Social support from colleague and supervisor was significantly associated with problem drinking in the 35~49 year old group. For the 50~64 year old group, problem drinking was associated with 'work autonomy'. Conclusion: The present study clarified that certain psychosocial work environmental factors relate to problem drinking, and the association varies among different age groups.

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the factors regarding work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in fruit-growers and offer the fundamental data for work improvement. The 587 fruit-growers (409 males and 178 females) working with 5 kinds of fruit: apple, pear, peach, grape, and mandarin participated in a questionnaire survey regarding MSDs and health condition in 2004 and 2005. The results are as follows: 1. Smoking rate was highest in apple growers. 2. Drinking rates were highest in male peach growers and in female grape growers. 3. Regular exercise rates were higher in pear and mandarin growers. 4. Physical and mental fatigue was higher in females than in males in most cases. 5. The prevalence rate of medically diagnosed diseases was highest for osteoarthritis (16.4%), herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP, 13.5%), and chronic gastritis/gastric ulcer (10.5%). As well as, the prevalence of dermatosis was higher in pear and mandarin growers. 6. The prevalence rate of musculoskeletal symptoms among the various pain areas was highest for lower back, shoulders, and knees. The prevalence rate was also high for lower back, shoulder, and knee pain in apple and grape growers. 7. The significant indexes used determining the musculoskeletal symptoms were BMI, working period, and regular exercise. These results can be practically used for work improvement for the fruit-growers to prevent MSDs.

Methods: Survey data on 23,602 workers who had worked in the public or private sector were obtained from the 2014 Korean Working Condition Survey (KWCS). Symptoms of depression were measured using the WHO-5 Well-being Index. Data were analyzed using a $x^2$ test, t-test, and multivariate stepwise logistic regression to determine the factors affecting the symptoms of depression. Results: First, the prevalence of depressive symptoms was 41.1 % in public sector employees and 43.4 % in private sector employees. Second, the factors commonly affecting depressive symptoms in public and private sector employees were residence area, cognitive demands, development opportunities, social support from colleagues, social support from supervisors, social community at work, job rewards, and work-family conflict. In addition, age, company size, atypical work, ergonomic risks, quantitative demands, emotional demands, influence, and job insecurity were found to be predictors of depressive symptoms unique to private sector employees. Conclusion: Mental health programs including the employee assistance program (EAP) should be developed and implemented after considering the risk factors affecting depressive symptoms.

Book numbers that are used in the Korean academic libraries consist of a combination of author-number or author-name, the first letter of the title, and any other shelflisting device. This study examined the current problems that perceive academic librarians on book numbers and the problem awareness of librarians who are working at 110 academic libraries in South Korea. The result shows that academic libraries are using eleven different methods of the book numbers table including nine eastern methods and two western methods. Also, librarians mentioned that the crucial concerns among participating libraries were the duplication of the book numbers and ineffective collection management. Therefore, this study suggested the expansion of the book numbers system in order not to duplicate of book numbers and the unification of western and eastern methods so that academic libraries tackle problems of ineffective collection management.

  • Safety is the most important issue in the construction industry. Especially, work-related disease is increasing and resulted in lack of young workers and high turnover due to its 3D industrial image. The main objective of this paper is to identify the relationship of WRMSD with hand tools used in the building construction industry. In order to reach to the goals, the survey and interviews with laborers are conducted. The data is analyzed in a statistical manner. One of the interesting findings from the research is that the carpenters and steelworkers are the principal trade group suffering from WRMSD due to unsafe working condition and method. The results of the research will be used as the basis for the ergonomic design of the better construction working condition and hand tools.
