Performance Improvement for Device-to-Device (D2D) Users in Underlay Cellular Communication Networks

  • This study focuses on the performance of device-to-device (D2D) communications in underlay cellular networks by analyzing key metrics such as successful transmission probability, coverage probability, and throughput. Under the homogeneous Poisson point process (PPP) spatial distribution of full-duplex (FD)-D2D users in cellular networks, stochastic geometry tools are used to derive approximate expressions for D2D users' coverage probability and throughput. In comparison to the conventional half-duplex (HD) communication mode, when the self-interference cancellation factor β reaches -95 dB, there is a substantial improvement in the throughput of FD-D2D users, nearly doubling their gain. Additionally, experimental results demonstrate that the Newton iterative algorithm can be used to optimize the targeted signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) threshold of users within the range of (10, 20) dB.

Reuse Intentions for Carsharing Services: A Hierarchical Model of Perceived Benefits, Risks, and Individual Differences

  • This study employs a hierarchical component model to examine reuse intentions among experienced carsharing service users in South Korea, focusing on how various perceptions of benefits and risks impact their decisions. It also explores the influences of self-efficacy, gender, and service usage experience on these perceptions and reuse intentions. Findings highlight that male users are primarily driven by functional benefits such as accessibility and convenience, whereas female users are more responsive to hedonic benefits. Users with high self-efficacy prioritize economic benefits, whereas those with more usage experience prioritize functional benefits. Additionally, social risks significantly deter reuse intentions predominantly among male and less experienced users. By utilizing a hierarchical model, this study offers a deeper understanding of how each dimension of benefits and risks affect overall perceptions, facilitating tailored strategies for carsharing services. The insights contribute valuable theoretical and practical perspectives on the dynamics of carsharing service usage.

An Analysis of Users' Perception of Providing CHI Services in Public Libraries (공공도서관의 소비자건강정보서비스에 대한 이용자인식 조사연구)

  • In this study, by performing a survey targeting public libraries' users, we analyzed the most common path to acquire health information, the users' perception about if public libraries are needed to provide CHI services, and the factors that affect users' perceptions. The results are as follows: 1) About 90% of Korean public libraries' users do not take into account public libraries as the acquisition path for CHI resources. 2) About 60% of users thought that public libraries are needed to provide CHI services. 3) The factors that affect users' perception for the necessity of public libraries providing CHI services, were their interest in health and hours of using the internet per day. 4) In addition, we analyzed differences in perception between librarians and patrons about the necessity of public libraries providing the CHI services. The result showed that there was no significant difference in their perceptions, and both groups strongly felt that public libraries must provide the CHI services.

Audience Activity for Digital Media: In the Study of PPV(Pay Per View) Use (디지털 미디어 수용자의 능동성에 관한 연구: PPV(Pay Per View) 이용행태를 중심으로)

  • In the era of digital media, one of the most distinctive characteristics is the activity what audience play. This characteristic can be particularly demonstrated in the case of PPV(Pay-Per-View) use. Since this service is related with payment by audience according to each behaviour of their own media use. In doing so, this paper explores the characteristics and behavioral pattern in PPV use. In particular, the study tries to predict from the result that which trait of characteristic can explain the adoption of PPV. The analytical result shows that PPV users are much more active in gathering information as well as achieving the diversity in terms of program choice compared to non PPV users. At the same time, PPV users are prone to be unsatisfied against the other media and naturally willing to adopt the new media. PPV users are much more keen to use toward age related programme classification system in order to protect their children from inappropriate programmes. The variable of participational behaviour is the most relevant variable to predict the degree of PPV use, however, it fails to predict to distinguish the PPV users group from non PPV users group. It maybe given as a conclusion that PPV users are much more active in not only choosing their own program they like to watch but also planning ahead for maximising their pleasure from viewing.

A Study on Traits and Remedy of Library Anxiety among International Users in Academic Library (대학도서관 외국인 이용자의 도서관불안의 특성과 해소방안 연구)

  • This study aimed to analyze library anxiety among international users in various aspects and make suggestions for alleviating library anxiety. Subjects were 'international users using the academic library' not only including international students but also including international professors and researchers to analyze library anxiety in various aspects. S university with most international users was selected for the study, and the surveys were distributed. The questionnaires completed by 369 international users were analyzed. The overall average of library anxiety among international users is 2.96, and 'knowledge of the library' appears to be the greatest source of library anxiety among international users. An analysis revealed that variables including status, nationality, library instruction, the reason for using the library, Korean proficiency, and cultural understanding contributed significantly to the library anxiety level. Based on these findings, recommendations for library service, staffing, environment, and resources were made to help alleviate library anxiety.

Perception of dental office visits of social network service users (SNS 이용자의 치과 SNS 특성에 관한 인식도)

  • Background: This study was aimed at investigating the perception of social network service (SNS) users regarding dental office visits and determining the proportion of dental SNS users among general SNS users. Methods: We surveyed 177 adults using SNSs. Dental SNS characteristics were classified into information provision, interaction, recency, reliability, and interest, and the recognition level of each area was surveyed on a 5-point scale. The total number of items was 17, including three information provision, three interaction, four recency, four reliability, and three interest items. Results: Among the five domains, the recognition level was the highest for reliability (3.51 points) and the lowest for interest (2.94 points). Among the 17 items, the recognition level was the highest for "Educational information provided by dental SNS is valuable" at 3.60 points, "Dental SNS educational video is useful for information sharing and dental knowledge improvement" at 3.53 points, and "The perceived educational information of dental SNS is reliable" at 3.51 points. Participants in their 20s and 30s had higher scores for being up-to-date (3.33 and 2.88 points, respectively) and reliability (3.59 and 3.09 points, respectively) than those in their 40s or older. The recognition level of all areas of dental SNS characteristics was significantly higher for experienced dental SNS users than for nonexperienced ones. Conclusions: The results of this study suggested that dental institutions should consider ways to utilize SNS for patient management and education and that dental SNS-related contents should contain educational and reliable information to help SNS users manage their oral health.

The Influence of Restrictions toward Online Game Misbehavior on Users' Emotional States and Intention to Reuse (온라인 게임 부정사용 억제가 감정과 재사용의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Owing to the wide distribution of smart devices, more people enjoy online games. Previous research related to online game has mainly focused on the factors that increase users' intention to reuse and less focused on the influence of restrictions toward online game misbehavior. This study proposes a research model that considers factors that either increase or decrease the use of online games and presents the outcomes. The research results showed that: (1) Restriction policy had no impact on online game users' feelings of pleasure and arousal. (2) Restriction system had negative impact on users' feelings of pleasure and arousal. (3) In an environment where online game misbehavior was restricted, users' emotional states still had positive influence on users' intention to reuse. This research results implies that in order to lead to healthy online game environment, compared to repressive and systematic restriction methods, it is preferable to establish restriction policies that have no negative impact on users' emotional states and to change users' perception through education, so to achieve successful restrictions toward online game misbehavior without jeopardizing revitalization of online game industry.

Human-Technology Integration for Implementing Electronic Approval System in a Hospital (의료기관 전자결제시스템 도입을 위한 Human-Technology Integration에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of study is to understand human-technology integration mechanism by using the study model that takes the core concept and motivation assumptions of technology acceptance model(TAM) into account. This study identifies three motivation mechanisms in adopting or using computer mediated communication(CMC) tool for work. The mechanism comprises with extrinsic, extrinsic motivation, and subjective norm pressure. One hospital with 430 beds and 367 human power was identified and we administered the questionnaire during their work hours. There is 32.4% response rate. The fitting index of the study model surpass the acceptable level, GFI = .980 for none-users, GFI =.986 for users, NNFI = .973 for none-users, and NNFI = .989 for users. In the case of none-users, perceived ease of use determines perceived usefulness that explains behavioral intention to use. As a result, adotpers' usage motivation is based on extrinsic motivation that does not consider their affective factor, attitude, in use of CMC. Users considers their attitudes as the mediating factor of all behavioral beliefs for using CMC continually. Thus, users are likely to depend their adoption behaviors on their affective factor. Moreover, users' behavioral intention is subject to pressures of use from other persons who are important to them, such as supervisor, director, or boss. Achieving human-technology integration in a hospital may cause cost saving and work efficiency. However, the success of information system should base on a profound understanding of employees' adoption behaviors in rejecting, adopting, using, continually using of IT, and organization culture in using IT.

The development of a mobile u-Health program and evaluation for self-diet management for diabetic patients

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study aims to develop a mobile nutritional management program for integration into the already developed web-based program, Diabetes Mellitus Dietary Management Guide (DMDMG) for diabetic patients. Further, we aim to evaluate the amended DMDMG program. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The mobile application based on an Android operating system includes three parts: 1) record of diet intake, which allows users to take pictures of the meal and save to later add diet records into DMDMG; 2) an alarm system that rings at each meal time, which reminds users to input the data; 3) displays the diet record and the results of nutrient intake, which can be also viewed through the web program. All three parts are linked to the web-based program. A survey was conducted to evaluate the program in terms of nutrition knowledge, dietary attitude, eating behavior and diet intake by non-equivalent control group design among diabetic patients with 14 DMDMG users and 12 non-user controls after a one-month trial of DMDMG. RESULTS: Non-users did not use the program, but participated in the weekly off-line nutrition classes for one month. The program users showed increased healthful dietary behavior (P < 0.01) and dietary attitude scores (P < 0.05). More DMDMG users had higher nutrition knowledge scores after one-month trial than non-users. However, dietary intake significantly increased in non-user group for calcium and sodium (P < 0.05) while the user group did not show significant changes. CONCLUSIONS: The program has created positive changes in patients' dietary life. All the users were satisfied with the program, although some expressed minor difficulties with an unfamiliar mobile app.

The Nonlinear Association Between Internet Using Time for Non-Educational Purposes and Adolescent Health

  • Objectives: This study was performed to consider the association between Internet using time for non-educational purposes and adolescent health, and to examine how health status differs between Internet users and non-users. Methods: We analyzed 2009 data from the Korea Adolescent Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey, conducted on a nationally representative sample of students in grades 7 to 12. A total of 75 066 adolescents were categorized into four groups according to their Internet using time excluding using for educational purposes: non-Internet users (NIUs), occasional Internet users (OIUs) (<1 h/d), moderate Internet users (MIUs) (${\geq}1$ and <2 h/d), and heavy Internet users (HIUs) (${\geq}2$ h/d). Health factors included eight health risk behavior indices, four mental health indices and six physical health indices. Results: The distribution of Internet use was as follows: NIUs 17.4%, OIUs 68.1%, MIUs 12.7%, and HIUs 1.7%. In multivariate analysis, using OIUs as a reference, U- or J-shaped associations were observed for five health risk behavior indices (current smoking, current drinking, drug abuse, sexual intercourse, sedentary behavior on weekdays) and four mental health indices (stressed, depressed, suicidal ideation, attempted suicide) in both genders. After removing confounding effects, including age, region, school type, subjective school record, subjective economic status, presence of parents, living with family, and sedentary behavior, these associations were still observed. Conclusions: Health professionals should consider both Internet non-users (for non-educational purposes) and heavy users to be high-risk groups in terms of health status. Also, more well-designed studies are needed to clarify what factors are working in these nonlinear associations.
