Basic Study on Radio Communication Technology of application for Train Control System (열차시스템에 응용되는 무선통신 기술에 관한 기초연구)

  • The most critical function of the Communication Based Train Control system is wayside and on-board Radio communication. Radio communication must be safely made without errors. The standards for CBTC has not been established yet, and research on Radio communication systems for use in Train control systems adopting CBTC system such as the magnetic levitation train must continue. This paper will discuss the characteristics of Radio communication technology currently used domestically such as GSM-R, IEEE 802.11, TETRA, MESH, and WiMAX/WiBro, and will investigate the potential possibility of applying them to Train control systems.

  • CBTC(Communication Based Train Control) System has many superior train control performances than conventional track-circuit-based train control system with higher train operation efficiency, and less installation and maintenance cost. It is expected that CBTC will replace the conventional train control systems in near future. As CBTC has different mechanisms from conventional track-circuit-based train control systems in identifying train positions, and communicating information between train and ground facility, we have to pay a carful attention to making the interface between CBTC equipments and other signalling devices. This paper provides the construction of the interface between CBTC train-born equipment and other train control equipments including ATO, TCMS, brake controller, door controller.

  • CBTC(Communication Based Train Control) System can improve train operation efficiency by realizing moving block system which makes a continuous train interval control in accordance with the position and speed of train. Adopting radio transmission to make a continuous detection of train position and transmit the control data from the ground to a train, CBTC needs dedicated train operation and control algorithm which should be quite different from the conventional track-circuit-based train control system. This paper provides a train operation display and control algorithm for CBTC system in making train interval control, train route control and train supervision. Signalling pattern diagram is devised to analyze the train interval control mechanism of moving block system, and interlocking logic is devised to represent the train route control mechanism of moving block system. For train supervision, train occupation status on railway are displayed by using the segment which virtually divide the whole railway. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the development of CBTC system for the standardized AGT(automatic guided transit) which is under construction now in Korea, and also can be applied to any other CBTC system.

  • The mobile communication based train control is the train control system by utilizing wireless communication rather than conventional wired communication. Traditional train control operates train occupation, safety integrity and moving authority using fixed block wired railway signal system. Since introduction of mobile communication in railway area, railway operators can provide improved passager services. Futhermore, it can replace inefficient train onboard equipments and railway ground facilities for economic benefits. In this paper we introduce mobile communication based railway system currently in operation around the world. Moreover, we provide the minimum requirements of the radio communication performance. Proposed minimum requirements of the radio communication improve more secure and efficient mobile communication based train control system.

  • Presently metro in our county has higher rate of passengers as a public transportation of urban area than other transportations. And road is under very restrictive condition to be expanded in many aspects because the streets are completely choked. Therefore increase of capacity in metro and reduction of headway has been seriously required and utmost efforts has been taken by related fields to meet the requirements. The concept of CBTC system came out from this background. CBTC system can be implemented to detect the train location without using the track circuits. It has many advantages in aspects of signalling equipments build-up and maintenance. This study investigated examples of radio communication system and applicable standard norms in other countries. And it also reviewed the suggestion for the establishment of radio frequency and radio network to be considered for application train control system by radio under Korean metro environment.

  • A TCS(Train Control System) is the core facility to ensure the safety and efficiency of train operations, it is difficult to have interoperability between the TCS suppliers. To ensure the interoperability between TCSs, there is a need for definition, validation and standardization on the system configuration, the functions of subsystems, the interface between subsystems an the system protocol. In this paper, we analyzed the completeness of the KRTCS(Korean Radio based Train Control System) specification, derived supplements what you need to apply the KRTCS specification to new urban lines.

  • The train control system using radio is based on the radio communication between an on-board control system and a ground control system unlike other train control systems that rely on track circuit. To realize a new train control system based on a new principle, it is important to analyze safety in a systematic manner at an early stage, and identify important factors for the system. For this reason, we think a procedure that select hazards and identify their causes and allocate safety requirements to such hazards. This paper describes this procedure to realize system safety.
