This paper focuses on the Hangul-to-roman conversion of Korean names. The proposed method recognizes existing notation and provides results according to the frequency of use. There are two main reasons for the diversity in Hangul-to-roman name conversion. The first is the indiscreet use of varied notation made domestically and overseas. The second is the customary notation of current notation. For these reasons, it has become possible to express various Roman characters in Korean names. The system constructs and converts data from 4 million people into a statistical dictionary. In the first step, the person's name is judged through a process matching the last name. In the second step, the first name is compared and converted in the statistical dictionary. In the last step, the syllables in the name are compared and converted, and the results are ranked according to the frequency of use. This paper measured the performance compared to the existing service systems on the web. The results showed a somewhat higher performance than other systems.
We introduce a way to generate morphologically and syntactically well-formed English sentences when building Korean to English bilingual dictionary for Machine Translation Systems. It has been proved that basic inflectional or structural descriptions for English sentences are by no means enough to generate proper English sentences because of traditional dictionary structures. Furthermore, much research has been focused only on how to disambiguate semantic ambiguities of words in a bilingual dictionary To take advantage of existing paperback Korean to English bilingual dictionary, its automatic conversion to an electronic version and methodologies to assign proper features to the descriptions for well-formed English sentences with minimum human effort have been proposed on the basis of the dictionary-specific structures. This approach was originally motivated for a glossary-based machine translation system, but it can be also applied to large scale dictionary work.

A hedge is a linguistic device to express uncertainties. Hedges are used in a sentence when the writer is uncertain or has doubt about the contents of the sentence. Due to this uncertainty, sentences with hedges are considered to be non-factual. There are many applications which need to determine whether a sentence is factual or not. Detecting hedges has the advantage in information retrieval, and information extraction, and QnA systems, which make use of non-hedge sentences as target to get more accurate results. In this paper, we constructed Korean hedge corpus, and extracted generalized hedge cue-word patterns from the corpus, and then used them in detecting hedges. In our experiments, we achieved 78.6% in F1-measure.
Recently, studies on Korean spelling correction have been actively conducted based on machine translation and automatic noise generation. These methods generate noise and use as train and data set. This has limitation in that it is difficult to accurately measure performance because it is unlikely that noise other than the noise used for learning is included in the test set In addition, there is no practical error type standard, so the type of error used in each study is different, making qualitative analysis difficult. This paper proposes new 'error type classification' for deep learning-based Korean spelling correction research, and error analysis perform on existing commercialized Korean spelling correctors (System A, B, C). As a result of analysis, it was found the three correction systems did not perform well in correcting other error types presented in this paper other than spacing, and hardly recognized errors in word order or tense.
Named Entity Recognition and Classification (NERC) is a task for recognition and classification of named entities such as a person's name, location, and organization. There have been various studies carried out on Korean NERC, but they have some problems, for example lacking some features as compared with English NERC. In this paper, we propose a method that uses word embedding as features for Korean NERC. We generate a word vector using a Continuous-Bag-of-Word (CBOW) model from POS-tagged corpus, and a word cluster symbol using a K-means algorithm from a word vector. We use the word vector and word cluster symbol as word embedding features in Conditional Random Fields (CRFs). From the result of the experiment, performance improved 1.17%, 0.61% and 1.19% respectively for TV domain, Sports domain and IT domain over the baseline system. Showing better performance than other NERC systems, we demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

Korean sentiment classification task is used in real-world services such as chatbots and analysis of user's purchase reviews. And due to the development of deep learning technology, neural network models with high performance are being applied. However, the neural network model is not easy to interpret what the input sentences are predicting due to which words, and recently, model interpretation methods for interpreting these neural network models have been popularly proposed. In this paper, we used the LIME algorithm among the model interpretation methods to interpret which of the words in the input sentences of the models learned with the korean sentiment classification dataset. As a result, the interpretation of the Bi-LSTM model with 85.24% performance included 25,283 words, but 84.20% of the transformer model with relatively low performance showed that the transformer model was more reliable than the Bi-LSTM model because it contains 26,447 words.
Long time has passed since computers which used to be a means of research were commercialized and available for the general public. People used writing instruments to write before computer was commercialized. However, today a growing number of them are using computers to write instead. Computerized word processing helps write faster and reduces fatigue of hands than writing instruments, making it better fit to making long texts. However, word processing programs are more likely to cause spelling errors by the mistake of users. Spelling errors distort the shape of words, making it easy for the writer to find and correct directly, but those caused due to users' lack of knowledge or those hard to find may make it almost impossible to produce a document free of spelling errors. However, spelling errors in important documents such as theses or business proposals may lead to falling reliability. Consequently, it is necessary to conduct research on high-level spelling error correction programs for the general public. This study was designed to produce a system to correct sentence-level spelling errors to normal words with Korean alphabet similarity algorithm. On the basis of findings reported in related literatures that corrected words are significantly similar to misspelled words in form, spelling errors were extracted from a corpus. Extracted corrected words were replaced with misspelled ones to correct spelling errors with spelling error detection algorithm.
Pointer Networks is a deep-learning model for the attention-mechanism outputting of a list of elements that corresponds to the input sequence and is based on a recurrent neural network (RNN). The coreference resolution for pronouns is the natural language processing (NLP) task that defines a single entity to find the antecedents that correspond to the pronouns in a document. In this paper, a pronoun coreference-resolution method that finds the relation between the antecedents and the pronouns using the Pointer Networks is proposed; furthermore, the input methods of the Pointer Networks-that is, the chaining order between the words in an entity-are proposed. From among the methods that are proposed in this paper, the chaining order Coref2 showed the best performance with an F1 of MUC 81.40 %. The method showed performances that are 31.00 % and 19.28 % better than the rule-based (50.40 %) and statistics-based (62.12 %) coreference resolution systems, respectively, for the Korean pronouns.
This paper proposes a method for Korean comparative sentence classification which is a part of comparison mining. Comparison mining, one area of text mining, analyzes comparative relations from the enormous amount of text documents. Three-step process is needed for comparison mining - 1) identifying comparative sentences in the text documents, 2) classifying those sentences into several classes, 3) analyzing comparative relations per each comparative class. This paper aims at the second task. In this paper, we use transformation-based learning (TBL) technique which is a well-known learning method in the natural language processing. In our experiment, we classify comparative sentences into seven classes using TBL and achieve an accuracy of 80.01%.

This study offered lexical knowledge acquisition model of unsupervised learning method in order to overcome limitation of lexical knowledge hand building manual of supervised learning method for research of natural language processing. The offered model obtains the lexical knowledge from the lexical entry which was given by inputting through the process of vectorization, clustering, lexical knowledge acquisition automatically. In the process of obtaining the lexical knowledge acquisition of model, some parts of lexical knowledge dictionary which changes in the number of lexical knowledge and characteristics of lexical knowledge appeared by parameter changes were shown. The experimental results show that is possibility of automatic building of Machine-readable dictionary, because observed to the number of lexical class information cluster collected constant. also building of lexical ditionary including left-morphosyntactic information and right-morphosyntactic information is reflected korean characteristic.
