  • Upholstery style is the form which bulges a shape by putting fillings in the support and covering them with patterned textile or pile fabric. Modern upholstery style was combined with the various socio-cultural products and artistic styles and expressed in interior furniture and costumes of historical time periods. The style first originated when people built houses for settlement and made furniture to decorate its interior. The characteristics of upholstery style came to be prominent in the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo times with the development of science and textile industry. The interior furniture represented the ages of the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo and were made with similar images of the architectural style from those different time periods. Textiles, tapestry, velvet, corduroy, damask, brocade, and the most frequently used velvet are elements that make up the structural and figurative features of the architectural style. The upholstery style of furniture also shows the forms of clothing that represents each of the different periods. This style still continues to be used today. In modern day fashion, the figurative characteristics of the upholstery style that derives from interior furniture and clothing from the different time periods are bulkiness, asymmetry and exoticism. Such figurative characteristics have evolved through the combination of diverse genres but it still maintains similar designs and forms.

  • In this study, growth-line analysis was carried out on the hard clam (Meretrix petechialis) collected from the Neolithic shell middens in Daejuk-ri, Seosan, Korea, to reconstruct palaeoenvironment. Growth increments of 206 specimens of the clam were examined. The ages of the specimens were determined from the rings on the shells. The relationship between shell length and ring radius in each ring group was expressed as a regression line, indicating a correspondence in each ring formation. Growth pattern of the midden specimens was compared to that of modern ones collected from Gimje, Jeonbuk. Growth curves for shell length fitted to the von Berta anffy's growth curve were expressed respectively as follows: $SL_t=102.9025[1-e^{-0.18657(t+1.0906)}]$ in the shell midden specimens, $SL_t=104.2583[1-e^{-0.2277(t+0.7499)}]$ in the modern ones. The relationship between shell length (SL; mm) and shell height (SH; mm) was expressed by the following equations: SH = 0.7791 SL + 3.6636 ($R^2$ = 0.946) in the midden specimens, SH = 0.8103 SL + 0.5145 ($R^2$ = 0.991) in the modern ones. The results of the tests regarding the differences between regression coefficients and elevations of growth curves of these two populations demonstrate that the slopes were not significantly different (p < 0.05), but the elevations were (p > 0.05). However, overall growth curves of the midden and modern populations were not significantly different, indicating that shell growth environments of the two areas are similar. Therefore, it is likely that sea temperature near the midden area could be similar to that of present Gimje area, and thus temperature during the period of the midden formation could be higher than presently known.

Second, with respect to humanity under rough natural surroundings and long struggle with outside tribes, humanity of costume was brought by optimistic and even free mind to them. The three quater sleeve showed wrist and deep-cut decollete in their dress and ornaments. Third, with respect to simplicity, religious effect on the leading civil class demanding self-abstinence, frugality, and thrift in their way of life resulted in black-tone simple costumes with white collar in their costumes and its ornaments.

  • Absolute ages for three pieces of organic materials such as wood and shell were determined with radio-carbon concentrations and two potsherds with thermoluminescence measurements. Radiocarbon contents of each sample were compared with those of modern standard oxalate(NBS SRM4990C) and calculated radiocarbon ages of them. Quartz grains with diameter of $90\sim150{\mu}m$ were extracted from potsherds and used for measuring the archaeodose. Annual dose were calculated with measuring the alpha count rates and water contents and analysing $K_2O$ concentration of both potsherds and soils. Radiocarbon ages of organic materials were in the ranges of $4\sim2C$ BC and Quartz grain techniques for thermoluminescence dating showed 170 BC ud 210 BC respectively. It was found that the results of radiocarbon dating and TL dating were accorded with each other. But the deviations of TL dating have shown 13% and 20% respectively. It need to reduce the deviations.

  • The most common way that people communicate is by speaking or writing natural languages. But if people use computers in the modern technology, they should learn artificial programming languages. If computers could understand what people mean when people speak or type natural languages, people would use the computers more easily and naturally.but there is a problem. The language which people use has vagueness. For example, the convential computer system cant's handle the subjective feeling like 'tall' or 'young'.So peole must specify the exact threshold like 'more'than 25 ages'.We have developed the knowledge-based natural language question answering system which can handle sentences having fuzzy concepts by using blackboard model. Our goal of this research is to develop a portable question answering system as interface for database systems or understanding systems.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in the make-up behavior influenced by make-up preference images, and the order of importance in the make-up behaviors. The questionnaires were given to female residents in the ages between $20\sim45$ in Seoul and Kyung-gi province during October 2004. 322 questionnaires were used for data analysis. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 10.0 software with various techniques such as ANOVA test, Duncan test and Paired t-test. The make-up behaviors were divided into three main categories: facial make-up behavior, color make-up behavior, and additional make-up behavior. The results showed that the skin care behavior was considered the most important among other make-up behaviors. Generally facial make-up was thought to be most important and color make-up, and additional make-up were followed orderly. The results of the make-up behavior differences by make-up preference image. The natural make-up preference image group considered all the make-up behavior less important than other make-up preference image groups. The modern make-up preference image group considered additional make-up behavior more important.
