Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effect of Korean and Western medical treatment on a hemiplegic inpatient with central pontine myelinolysis(CPM). Methods : A patient who was diagnosed with central pontine myelinolysis(CPM) was treated with acupuncture, herbal medicine, Korean physical therapy, along with receiving continuous Western medication and rehabilitation treatment. The patient was evaluated through Manual Muscle Testing(MMT), measurement of grip strength, dysarthria, and dysuresia. The Korean and Western medical treatment was conducted for 4 weeks. Results : After the 4 weeks of Korean and Western medical treatment, MMT grade improved from 2 to 4 and grip strength improved from 6 to 13. Dysarthria and dysuresia also improved. Conclusion : According to these results, this report suggests that Korean and Western medical treatment could be effective in the treatment of central pontine myelinolysis(CPM) patients.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to present the clinical guidelines for Korean medical treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Methods : Reports for Korean medical treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome were collected, analyzed and summarized from the Electronic journal search since 2000. Results : In Korean medicine treatment of irritable bowel syndrome used herbs, acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal acupuncture, and auricular acupuncture. Herb medicines were administered according to the patient's case by a prescription of considering physical condition and symptoms. Acupuncture and moxibustion therapies stimulate the median points of LR(足厥陰肝經), ST(足陽明胃經), LI(手陽明大腸經), SI(手太陽小腸經). The assessment items for Korean medical treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome were abdominal symptoms, defecation, autonomic nervous system changes, stress, Live blood condition and mental health. Conclusions : Through continued research need to develop better treatment strategies for Korean treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Objectives: This paper aims to report the effects of Korean medical treatment on three patients who operated laparoscopic gynecological surgery. Methods: Three patients operated laparoscopic gynecological surgery and got Korean medical treatment during 5 or 6 days hospitalization. The treatment included Ikgibohyeol-tang-gagambang, acupuncture, moxa and hot pack treatment. Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) of chief symptoms was measured every morning. Results: After the treatment, the pains following surgery decreased, and general conditions improved. Conclusions: These cases show that Korean medical treatment including Ikgibohyeol-tang-gagambang is effective for patients who operated laparoscopic gynecological surgery.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of Korean medical treatment as supplementary treatment method in ART. Methods: The research was investigated with Korean, Chinese and western medical clinical journals of ART with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and other oriental medical treatment as supplementary treatment. Results: ART with additional herbal treatment achieved notably better result when ovulation rate, quality of oocyte, pregnant rate were compared. In the indepth review and analysis of five journals of ART with acupuncture intervention, firm effective results were not found, however, acupuncture intervention on patients with embryo transplantation had higher achievement rate in artificial insemination. Conclusions: According to the review of the Korean, Chinese, and western medical journals of the effect of Korean medical treatment as supplementary treatment method in ART, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and other oriental medical therapies in ART contribute to the improvement of the outcome of ART. The limit in the research was limited strong enough well-designed RCT studies as evidence for they were very seldom.

Objectives : This study is to research the trend of the oriantal medical treatment for tinnitus and to establish the hereafter direction for the study on oriantal medical treatment for tinnitus. Methods : We reviewed the domestic articles published last eleven years(2000- 2010). Results : We have searched 21 articles in 5 journals of korean oriental medical ophthalmology &dermatology, korean acupuncture & moxibustion, korean oriental medicine, oriental physiology & pathology, sasang constitutional medicine. 1. There were the most research done 2006. They have 5 articles. In other years there were 3 or less articles. 2. The pattern of study was as follow: the consideration of documents were 5, clinical trials were 6, case studies were 8 and the others were 2. the rate of case studies were increased. 3. After mid 2000s, there were more studies of new research method appearing. Conclusions : The oriental medical treatment already effective for tinnitus. But we need more studies about various kind of oriental medical treatment for tinnitus.

This study examined the effectiveness of Korean-Western cooperative treatment for patients with plantar fasciitis. Fifty patients received Korean medicine treatments (acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine) and Western medicine treatments (polydeoxyribonucleotide, and extracorporeal shock wave therapy). Evaluation methods used were comparison before and after ultrasound (P9), and numeric rating scale scores. Results revealed a significant improvement in the level of pain and evaluation of improvement using ultrasound. Moreover, it was suggested that Korean-Western cooperative medicine treatment may be effective for the treatment of plantar fasciitis.

Therefore, according to increase of elderly's medical treatment demand, medical treatment service request is augmented. Number of medical treatment service utilization wishes to grope medical treatment service support way for elderly residing cloth elevation laying stress on elderly's Aging in Place in increase trend in this research. If decide, is as following : First, national hospital and public health center were concentrated most on Seoul and kyonggi, and there were many hospitals to south of a river nine, Songpagu, Seochogu, and public health center was expose that is one by one to each nine. Second, in the case of Seoul, elderly population ratio was expose that comparatively high Yeongdeungpo, Chongno, Yongsan, west passage nine is few hospital number relatively in elderly's residential area. Third, need that establish elderly full text clinic on part of general hospital or university hospital equipment. Fourth, must do so that can use access as is easy little more in local community to all elderly who need medical treatment service of visit nursing, visit medical examination and treatment etc.. that consist in present public health center.

Objectives : This study was carried out to measure perceptions about Traditional Korean Medicine hospitals and provide data for improvement of TKM hospital management. Methods : We surveyed the general population from 1st to 17th December, 2008, and patients visiting a TKM hospital from 1st June to 9th December, 2008. Results : Result as follows. 1. The response ratio for the generally preferred medical institution was in the order of western medical clinic, pharmacy, general hospital, TKM clinic, TKM hospital. 2. The response ratio for the preferred medical institution for herbal medicine treatment was in the order of TKM clinic, herbal medicine store, TKM hospital, pharmacy. The preferred medical institution for acupuncture treatment was in the order of TKM clinic, TKM hospital, acupuncture clinic, public health center. 3. The most common response to reason for receiving traditional Korean medical care was "traditional Korean medical care is more effective than western medical care." 4. The proportion of first treatment and second treatment of patients visiting at TKM hospital was about 1:1. 5. 72.3% of patients had been to another medical institution. 6. The response ratio for the first visited medical institution for the same disease was in the order of general hospital, western medical hospital, western medical clinic, TKM clinic. 7. The response ratio for the concern about TKM treatment was in the order of expensive charge for TKM treatment, uncertainty of TKM treatment effect. Conclusions : Through this research, we can understand the perception about TKM hospital treatment of the general population and patients visiting TKM hospitals.

Objectives : This paper is to report a natural pregnancy of Whidam's Su-Gi therapy with korean medical treatment on a infertile patient who had a missed abortion and was repeatedly failed in IVF-ET. Methods : A patient who had infertility problem had a missed abortion, endometrial curettage and IVF-ET several times. In this study, the patient steadily took a Whidam's Su-Gi therapy with korean medical treatment such as herbal medication, acupuncture, and cupping therapy, and so forth. Results : Through taking Whidam's Su-Gi therapy without assisted reproduction techniques, the patient got pregnant naturally. Conclusions : This case suggest that Whidam's Su-Gi therapy with korean medical treatment is effective in treating infertile female after missed abortion and failure in IVF-ET and inducing natural pregnancy. Therefore, there needs to be more trial on infertile patients treated with Su-Gi therapy with korean medical treatment.

The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of diarrhea-inducing treatment by Gamsui-mal for lumbar spinal stenosis. During hospitalization four patients with lumbar spinal stenosis were treated with diarrhea-inducing treatment by Gamsui-mal and acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping treatment, Bee-venom pharmacopuncture. Before treatment, we explained in detail about diarrhea-inducing treatment by Gamsui-mal and patients agreed with treatment. The symptoms appeared in patients of diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting in the treatment process. We evaluated the degree of improvement by visual analogue scale (VAS), oswestry disability index (ODI). After treatment, we found that pain was reduced and patient's symptoms were improved by visual analogue scale (VAS), oswestry disability index (ODI) score. The results show that diarrhea-inducing treatment by Gamsui-mal was rapidly improving symptoms. Further studies are needed to clarify the effect of diarrhea-inducing treatment by Gamsui-mal.
