Korean Learning Assistant System with Automatically Extracted Knowledge (자동 추출된 지식에 기반한 한국어 학습 지원 시스템)

  • Computer aided language learning has become popular. But the level of automation of constructing a Korean learning assistant system is not so high because a practical language learning system needs large scale knowledge resources, which is very hard to acquire. In this paper, we propose a Korean learning assistant system that utilizes easily obtainable knowledge resources like a corpus, web documents and a lexicon. Our system has three modules - problem solving, pronunciation marker and writing assistant. Automatic problem generator uses a corpus and a lexicon to make problems with one correct answer and three distracters, then verifies their suitability by utilizing frequency information from web documents. We analyze pronunciation rules for a pronunciation marker and recommend appropriate words and sentences in real-time by using data extracted from a corpus. In experiment, we evaluate 400 automatically generated problems, which show 89.9% problem suitability and 64.9% example suitability.

Developing Geometry Software for Exploration-Geometry Player

  • The purpose of this study is to create an interactive tool Geometry Player for geometric explorations. In designing this software, we referred to van Hiele's geometric learning theory of and Duval's cognitive comprehension theory of geometric figures. With Geometry Player, it is easy to construct and manipulate dynamic geometric figures. Teachers can easily present the dynamic process of geometric figures in class, and students can use it as a leaning tool to construct geometric concepts by themselves. It is hoped that Geometry Player can be a useful assistant for teachers and a nice partner for students. A brief introduction to Geometry Player and some application examples are included in this paper.

Legal Interpretation on Management Power of Article 7 Section 1 of Security Business Act (경비업법 제7조 제1항 "관리권 범위"에 대한 법적 해석)

  • Security Business Act of Korea is leaning toward the aspect of regulation, while it provides few provisions about vesting the authority, which causes problems such as legal loopholes to be raised in regard to the rules about authorizing the private security personnel to perform security affairs properly and defining the limit of power. So, it should be done to interpret the law in order to draw the legal basis of empowering as well as to set limits of the authority of security main agent, and Article 7, Section 1, of Security Business Act is the very provision that involves the legal basis. In the scope of 'Management Power', the statutory authority in the first clause of Article 7 of Security Business Act, the security personnel can use force for self-defense, defense of others and property, and prevention of crimes. In addition, the powers of interrogation, access control, and eviction notice are involved in its scope. The private security personnel as the occupation assistant can take precautions and if the infringement on the benefit and protection of the law is imminent or done, he or she can use force within the limits of the passive resistance and the means of defiance on the basis of 'Management Power'. The private security personnel, however, can exercise the force only if the necessary conditions of legal defense, emergency evacuation, and legitimate act of criminal law are fulfilled.
