  • XML is suitable to integrate various forms of engineering design data since it possesses the characteristics of both documents and data. In this research a web-based design system has been developed, which integrates various gear design data in the form of XML. The system generates XML document containing gear design data and transforms gear design data in the relational database into XML document form automatically. The XML documents are transmitted to gear modeler agent through SOAP, and then the agent is automatically executed and generates CAD model files and VRML files. The designer can check the generated VRML model of gear immediately in the web service.

  • A proper model of expert system for the very thin sheet metal press die design has been suggested. Using the suggested model, an expert system of the very thin sheet metal press die has been developed. This study contains that the results from the developed system for three kinds of specimens have the adaptability in the actual site. In addition, the possibility for expansion of this system has been discussed. The developed system, which is based on the knowledge base, has been included in a lot of expert's technology in the practice field. C-language under the HP-UNIX system and CIS customer language of the EXCESS CAD/CAM system have been used as the overall CAD environment. Results from this system will provide effective aids to the designer in this field.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the vocabulary related to safety accidents based on the reports recorded on the violation of safety rules at the construction sites. We used Word2Vec and Topic Model as natural language processing techniques to analyze the safety accidents presented in the reports of the large enterprise. The words that appeared based on the occupational accident types such as the fall, falling objects, and others were derived and visualized. We derive the frequency and similarity of the words and topics of the accident that occur at the construction site. In future studies, we will be able to proceed with the generation of texts from pictures based on images and this reports.

  • Intelligent courseware predicts the status of student diagnosing student diagnosing student's response and performs an adaptive tutoring based on the student model. This paper designs an authoring tool that supports dyanmic sequence control of tutoring. And also it defines a lesson description language for the dynamic control sequence.Using this language we can represent a control sequence of courseware statically and dynamically. We apply the proposed tool for controlling sequence of C language courseware and show the usability of the proposed system.

  • As Snow (1989) and Sternberg (1985) have long argued, learning, and adaptation to the learning environment or classroom context (at the levels of instructional treatment, interventionist focus on form technique, or pedagogic task) is a result of the interaction of context at each of these levels of description with learners' patterns of abilities. In this paper I argue that this is an important area of research for SLA pedagogy, as well as SLA theory development, and I review recent developments in the study of L2 learning conditions; of the abilities contributing to L2 aptitude; and of their interaction with the processes involved in successful classroom learning and practice, and propose a model of ‘multiple aptitudes’ for classroom learning based on these findings.

How has belief modality contributed to formal semantics?

  • Looking back the history of formal treatment of linguistics, we cannot disregard the contribution of possible world semantics. Intensional logic of Montague semantics, DRT (Discourse Representation Theory), mental space, and situation theory are closely related to or compared with the notion of possible world. All these theories have commonly clarified the structure of belief context or uncertain knowledge, employing hypothesized worlds. In this talk, I firstly brief the pedigree of these theories. Next, I will introduce the recent development of modal logic for the representation of (i) knowledge and belief and (ii) time, in which belief modality is precisely discussed together with the accessibility among possible worlds. I will refer to BDI (belief-desire-intention) logic, CTL (computational tree logic), and sphere-based model in belief revision. Finally, I will discuss how these theories could be applied to the further development of analyses of natural language.

  • As far as the recent ELT research concerned, it seems to have been no hot ‘theoretical’ issues, but ‘practical’ ones in general: e.g., learners and learning, components of proficiency, correlates of L2 learning, etc. This paper focuses on the theme given above, with a special reference to the sub-title: specifically, 1) World English, world Englishes and world's lingua franca; 2) ENL, ESL and EFL; 3) Grammars, style manuals, dictionaries and media; 4) Pronunciation models: RP, BBC model and General American, Network Standard; 5) Lexical, grammatical variations and discourse grammars; 6) Beliefs and subjective theories in foreign language research; 7) Dilemma among radical, canonical and eclectic views. In conclusion, the author offers a modest proposal: we need to appeal to our own experience, intention, feeling and purpose, that is, our identity to express “our own selves” in our contexts toward the world anywhere, if not sounding authentic enough, but producing it plausibly well. It is time for us (with our ethno-cultural autonomy) to need to be complementary to and parallel with its native speakers' linguistic-cultural authenticity in terms of the broadest mutual understanding.
