  • In storm sewer networks a lot of manholes are installed to maintain and connect a sewer of urban area. There are some shapes of manhole such as circular type, square type, and so on. Square shape manholes are installed to connect the large diameter drainage pipes in general and have lager head losses than circular one. Consequently, it is important to analyze the head losses in square manhole because the head losses in square manhole are much bigger than the friction losses in pipes. Hydraulic experimental apparatus which can be changed the inside shape in square manhole was installed for this study. The experimental discharge was $16{\ell}/sec$. The head loss coefficients in the manhole were calculated by the experimental results. The range of head loss coefficients in the general square manhole were from 0.33 to 0.48 and the range of head loss coefficients in the square manhole changed inside shape were from 0.23 to 0.28.

  • This study was aimed to provide the fundamental and various measurement data of the head and face for Korean children. Two hundred sixty nine female children, aged nine to twelve years, participated for this study. The 28 regions on the head and face of the subjects were directly measured by the expert experimenters. Factor analysis, cluster analysis, GLM analysis and Tukey HSD test were performed' using these data. Through factor analysis, six factors were extracted upon factor scores and those factors comprised 71.42% for the total variances. Four clusters as their head and face shape were categorized using six factor scores by cluster analysis. Type 1 was characterized by the shorter head & face length and width and the lowest position from forehead to nose. Type 2 had the longer head & face length and width and the highest ear position and the largest mouse width. Type 3 was characterized by the longest and head & face type and the widest head & face girth. Type 4 was characterized by shortest head & face length the lower ear and lips position.

  • The specific power output and thermal effeciency of any two-stroke engine are dependent on its scavenging behavior. Among the many factors which influence on the scavenging process, the cylinder head shape is one of the important factor. Hence in this study three different type models of cylinder head shape which are the cylindrical, the spherical and the arbitrary shape are studied to show the effects of the turbulent scavenging process in the cylinder with one inlet port, two side ports and one exhaust port. A modified version of KIVA-II which strip out of or add planes of cells across the mesh above the piston for flow simulation of two-stroke engine is used. The $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model is used. The results show that the flow in a two-stroke engine cylinder of the spherical head shape among the three different type model is a desirable for efficient scavenging.

  • Based on the averaged Korean head shapes that are the results of digital Korean project by KISTI and Catholic university, experimental apparatus of head dummies of Korean male and female are developed in order to measure head-related transfer functions(HRTF) by using a reverse engineering and rapid prototyping techniques. For the Korean dummies, HRTFs are measured using the substitution method ever 12kHz frequency bands. At every azimuth angle $15^{\circ}$ HRTFs are measured for elevation angles $-30^{\circ}$, $0^{\circ}$ and $-30^{\circ}$. The measured HRTFs are compared with those of KEMAR(knowles electronic manikin for acoustic research) dummy head, which shows $3{\sim}5\;dB$ difference over $4{\sim}5\;kHz$ kHz frequency band.

  • During the laser welding, weldments are suddenly heated by laser beam and cooled. This phenomenon gives occasion to complex welding residual stresses, which have a great influence on structural instability strength, in laser welds. However, a relevant research on this field is not sufficient until present and residual stress measurements have experimental and practical limitations. For these reasons a numerical simulation may be attractive in order to solve the residual stress problem. In order to determine the distribution of heat and welding residual stresses in laser welds with the nail-head shape, authors conduct the finite element analysis (two-dimensional unstationary heat conduction & thermal elasto-plastic analysis). From the result of this study, we can confirm the stress concentration is occurred at the place of melting line shape changed in laser welds with the nail-head shape.

  • The objectives of this study were to classify the head shapes of Korean men and to suggest computer tomography as a new body measurement method. The 23 head measurement items of 760 men, aged more than 18 in Sizekorea 2004 database were used to analyze, measured by using statistical methods. Factor analysis, cluster analysis and duncan test were performed using these data. Through factor analysis, 5 factors were extracted upon factor scores and those factors comprised 70.91% for the total variances. The head and face shapes were categorized as 5 types-triangle, round, oval, long, rectangle. We decided for the type 1(triangle) to standard head shape since this type was the most observed. 21 participants were measured using computed tomography(CT). The measured data of skin and skeleton and the standard head shapes were illustrated.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide some preliminary results on application of 3D scan data of head shapes to the hat design and pattern-making. This paper defined necessary measurement items and concepts in 3-dimensional images of head shapes. And also it presented the methodology to pattern-making of 6-piece crown hat based on 3D data. It used the data of Size Korea to pick up and choose a head shape model with the average head size of Korean women in their twenties. Main results were: 1. The 3D scan data of head shape was better than the 1 dimensional measurement data. Because I could establish a hat pattern-making theory by the 3D scan data of head. 2. The 3D scan data provided the basis for conceptualization of basic measurement points and items for a better fit of hats as well as the definition of the basic hat circumference. 3. This presented a methodology for analyzing out head shape by 3D scan data, and allowed the derivation of the basic hat circumference from the maximum head circumference. 4. As the 6-piece Crown cloche hat made by this method fitted the head shape model perfectly, this methodology could suggest potential applicability to various hat design.

  • This study was aimed to provide the fundamental and various measurement data of the head and face for male children. Two hundred forty one male children, aged nine to twelve years, participated for this study. The 31 regions on the head and face of the subjects were directly measured by the expert experimenters. Through factor analysis, the six factors were extracted upon factor scores and those factors comprised $67.47\%$ for the total variances. The first factor was described the general height elements for the mouth and the environs of the mouth. The second factor was described the general height around the nose, forehead and eyes. The third factor was described the height of the ear environs. The forth factor contained the length around the sinciput to the occiput, the head thick and the head circumstance. The fifth factor was described the general width of the outer head and the corner of the eyes. The last factor contained the depth of the mouth and nose. Four clusters as their head and face shape were categorized using six factor scores by cluster analysis. Type 1 was characterized by the shortest head and face width, surface length and girth, and the shorter length of head, but the highest position of chin, philtrum, upper lip. Type 2 was characterized by the shortest head and face length and thickness, and the lowest position of the forehead, eye, nose, mouth, ear environs, but that had wider width of head and face. Type 3 was characterized by the longest and the widest head and face type, and the highest position of the mouth. Type 4 was characterized by longer length of head and face, and the widest head girth and largest head thickness, and the highest position of the forehead, eye, nose environs. And this type had the widest width of nose and mouth, and the longest head surface length.

  • The reverse engineering (RE) technology can quickly generate 3D point cloud data of an object by capturing the surface of a model using a 3D scanner. In the rapid prototyping (RP) technology, prototypes are rapidly produced from 3D CAD models in a layer-by-layer additive basis. In this paper, a physical human head shape is duplicated using a new RP process, the Transfer-type Variable Lamination Manufacturing process using expandable polystyrene foam sheet (VLM-ST), after the point cloud data of a human head shape measured from 3D SNX scanner are converted to STL file. From the duplicated human head shape, it has been shown that the VLM-ST process in connection with the 3D scanner is a fast and efficient process in that shapes with free surface, such as the human head shape, can be duplicated with ease. Considering the measurement time and the shape duplication time, the use of 3D SNX scanner and the VLM-ST process is expected to reduce the lead-time fur the development of new products in comparison with the other existing RE-RP connected manufacturing systems.
