  • As far as Hilbert's Program is concerned, there seems to be important differences in the development of Wittgenstein's thoughts. Wittgenstein's main claims on this theme in his middle period writings, such as Wittgenstein and the Vienna Circle, Philosophical Remarks and Philosophical Grammar seem to be different from the later writings such as Wittgenstein's Lectures on the Foundations of Mathematics (Cambridge 1939) and Remarks on the Foundations of Mathematics. To show that differences, I will first briefly survey Hilbert's program and his philosophy of mathematics, that is to say, formalism. Next, I will illuminate in what respects Wittgenstein was influenced by and criticized Hilbert's formalism. Surprisingly enough, Wittgenstein claims in his middle period that there is neither metamathematics nor proof of consistency. But later, he withdraws his such radical claims. Furthermore, we cannot find out any evidences, I think, that he maintained his formerly claims. I will illuminate why Wittgenstein does not raise such claims any more.

  • Programming education in the area of ICT instruction is usually considered as contributing to the improvement of one's analytical power, logic in thinking, and procedural problem-solving capabilities. However, it is hard to get access to adequate web coursewares in suit with their intellectual level of development of Korean elementary students. Most of the existing coursewares, if any, are dealing with high level and theory-oriented contents, and accordingly are quite difficult for the elementary students to understand them. In addition, it is very difficult to practice them on the Web. Drawing upon some ideas on the theories of Web-based design and learning, this study tries to develop and materialize a fresh learning courseware for Visual Basic. The Web courseware thus developed allows students to learn the basics of visual basic programming as well as the basic grammar. It also provides students with an environment that enables students to code and run programs on the Web.

  • As is well known, Wittgenstein criticizes Russell's theory of types explicitly in the Tractatus. What, then, is the point of Wittgenstein's criticism of Russell's theory of types? In order to answer this question I will consider the theory of types on its philosophical aspect and its logical aspect. Roughly speaking, in the Tractatus Wittgenstein's logical syntax is the alternative of Russell's theory of types. Logical syntax is the sign rules, in particular, formation rules of notation of the Tractatus. Wittgenstein's distinction of saying-showing is the most fundamental ground of logical syntax. Wittgenstein makes a step forward with his criticism of Russell's theory of types to the view that logical grammar is arbitrary and a priori. His criticism of Russell's theory of types is after all the challenge against Frege-Russell's conception of logic. Logic is not concerned with general truth or features of the world. Tautologies which consist of logic say nothing.

  • This paper proposes several methods for effective teaching of programing language(especially C). The programing languages are very important and basic subjects in the Department of Computer Engineering and Science. Many students have some difficulty in learning the programming languages. So, we will suggest several effective methods for effective teaching of programming languages. First, in order to understand the programming language effectively, we need to teach some basic computer architecture and operation principles of computer program to students. Second, it is better to teach many example-based programing skills instead of conventional grammar teaching. Third, if we teach the memory status(memory allocation/release) during the program operation, it will be much better to understand the pointer variables and memory problems. Fourth, let's improve the programming skills through effective homework assignments and experiments. Fifth, let students be guided so that they do programing by themselves. Finally, we can maximize the programming skill through the final termproject.

  • This research comes from the premise that a student-oriented English digital textbook's design should be age appropriate. Our study is intended for third-year elementary students, since that age is the onset of English education within the Korean national curriculum. Our proposal focuses on this age's need for concrete information. Three popular textbooks' designs were analyzed using Cress's "Grammar Flame of Visual Design [Cress 2006]," and the results reflected in our modified book design. Via two case studies, a focus group interview, questionnaire, and observation analysis, we learned that the design of an age-appropriate digital English textbook changes the effectiveness of the education. An age-appropriate modified digital English textbook improves student satisfaction and interest. Our research proposes a systematic textbook design guide for age-specific preferences and characteristics.

  • This study presents a comparative analysis of the calligrammic poetic dictions shown in the poems of the French poets Guillaume Apollinaire and Paul Eluard and in those of the Korean poet Lee Sang. They were adventurers in the avant-garde movement who used experimental techniques that led to futurism, expressionism, cubism, dadaism, and surrealism. They applied a typographic technique that combined pictorial arrangements of fonts, shapes of compositions and between lines, letters of the alphabet, mathematical symbols, and graphical elements, such as circles or lines, to make up a poem that also looked like a painting. Their works, valued as visual lyric poems, break up language and combine anti-poems. They rejected traditional poetic dictions or grammar, but developed a paratactic poem that freely uses letters and symbols. Their calligrammic poetic dictions arouse dynamic images like space extension. Lee Sang's calligrams seem like abstract paintings that apply geometric symbols like those used in technical drawings. As a result, crossing the boundaries between language and pictorial art by using experimental materials and techniques, their poems deconstruct the creative standards of rational and traditional poetic dictions, creating an adventurous, expressive technique. Their calligrammic, avant-garde poems introduced a new spirit of art into both French and Korean modern poetic literature.

  • This study analyzed the translation strategies of four Chinese translations of 『Who ate all the Sing a?』. As is well known, Park Wan-seo's works contain many psychological descriptions, abstract vocabulary, idioms, proverbs, dialects, etc., so when translating into Chinese, various translation strategies such as translation, interpretation, and creative translation are required. Although all four types studied in this paper are somewhat different depending on the translator, all translation strategies were used in a comprehensive way. As a result of the study, all four translation strategies used a strategy of direct translation of Chinese characters when translating geographical namesand names of people. The interpretational translation strategy was used for the translation of vocabulary that requires historical, social, cultural, and geography background interpretation. was utilized. The creative translation strategy was used when translating overlapping issues, political and historically sensitive issues, and issues related to Korean pronunciation and grammar. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that translation strategy research on various Chinese translations of Korean modern literature as well as various Chinese translations of Park Wan-seo will be expanded.

  • For Korean researchers, English is essential. In fact, this is the case for any researcher who is a non-native English speaker, as recognition and success is predicated on being published, while publications that reach the broadest audiences are in English. Unfortunately, university science and engineering programs in Korea often do not provide formal coursework to help students attain greater competence in English composition. Aggravating this situation is the general lack of literature covering this specific pedagogical issue. While there is plenty of information to help native speakers with technical writing and much covering general English composition for EFL learners, there is very little information available to help EFL learners become better technical writers. Thus, the purpose of this report is twofold. First, as most Korean educators in science and engineering are not well acquainted with pedagogical issues of EFL writing, this report provides a general introduction to some relevant issues. It reviews the importance of contrastive rhetoric as well as some considerations for choosing the appropriate teaching approach, class arrangement, and use of computer assisted learning tools. Secondly, a course proposal is discussed. Based on a review of student writing samples as well as student responses to a self-assessment questionnaire, the proposed course is intended to balance the needs of Korean EFL learners to develop grammar, process, and genre skills involved in technical writing. Although, the scope of this report is very modest, by sharing the considerations made towards the development of an EFL technical writing course it seeks to provide a small example to a field that is perhaps lacking examples.

  • Interest in and study on 3 dimensional pictures has been continued since visual media showing moving images was invented. From simple anaglyph wearing glasses to hologram making perfect 3 dimensional objects by recording phase data of reflected light, as well as amplitude and wave, speed and scope of technical development are quicker and wider, respectively. However, despite such development of technology, there is still lack of study on aesthetical, industrial and contents developing area, except for technology of 3 dimensional images. Unlike the interest in 3 dimensional images, even a theoretical frame for the approach to theoretical areas of 3 dimensional images has not been established. Especially, few experiment and study on directing aesthetics have been conducted, with exception of areas in entertainment documentaries for 3 dimensional feeling or some latest 3D animations. As a result, this study will try to find alternatives to directing aesthetics of realistic 3 dimensional movies to be developed in future by studying directing grammar and aesthetics of digital 3 dimensional movies and finding and analyzing difference between 3 dimensional images and 2 dimensional images drawn on the plane.
