  • In this paper, collision analysis is carried out between two FRP fishing boats. A computer simulation with finite element method is used to accomplish this objective. At first, a detailed geometric model of the boat is constructed using 3-D CAD program. The formation of a finite element from a geometric data of the boats is carried out using HYPERMESH that is the commercial software for mesh generation and post processing. Twelve collision configurations are established by combining two kinds of contact angle($90^{\circ},\;135^{\circ}$) and three different speed(5, 10, 15knot) for small and large boats. Collision analysis is accomplished using DYNA3D. Stress distribution and deformation shape are investigated for each collision condition. In general, $90^{\circ}$ collision angle generate larger stress than $135^{\circ}$ case and the collision for two moving boats showed larger maximum stress than the case that one is moving and the other is stationary. When analysis is carried out until 150ms contact parts of two boats are broken for 10 and 15knot collision speed, in which maximum stress is larger than ultimate strength of the material.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new lifting architecture for JPEG2000 and implemented to ASIC. We proposed a new cell to execute unit calculation of lifting using the property of lifting which is the repetitious arithmetic with same structure, and then recomposed the whole lifting by expanding it. After the operational sequence of lifting arithmetic was analyzed in detail and the causality was imposed for implementation to hardware, the unit cell was optimized. A new lifting kernel was organized by expanding simply the unit cell, and a lifting processor was implemented for Motion JPEG2000 using it. The implemented lifting kernel can accommodate the tile size of 1024$\times$1024, and support both lossy compression using the (9,7) filter and lossless compression using (5,3) filter. Also, it has the same output rate as input rate, and can continuously output the wavelet coefficients of 4 types(LL, LH, HL, HH) at the same time. The implemented lifting processor completed a course of ASIC using 0.35$\mu$m CMOS library of SAMSUNG. It occupied about 90,000 gates, and stably operated in about 150MHz though difference from the used macro cell for the multiplier. Finally, the improved operated in about 150MHz though difference from the used macro cell for the multiplier. Finally, the performance can be identified in comparison with the previous researches and commercial IPs.

  • The current work investigated the variation of numerical solutions according to the grid number, the distance of the first grid point off the ship surface, turbulence modeling and discretization. The subject vessel is KVLCC. A commercial code, Gridgen V15 and FLUENT were used the generation of the ship hull surface and spatial system and flow computation. The first part of examination, the effect of solutions were accessed depending on the grid number, turbulence modeling and discretization. The second part was focus on the suitable selection of the distance of the first grid point off the ship surface: $Y_P+$. When grid number and discretization were fixed the same value, the friction resistance showed differences within 1 % but the pressure resistance showed big differences 9 % depending on the turbulence modeling. When $Y_P+$ were set 30 and 50 for the same discretization, friction resistance showed almost same results within 1 % according to the turbulence modeling. However, when $Y_P+$ were fixed 100, friction resistance showed more differences of 3 % compared to $Y_P+$ of 30 and 50. Whereas pressure resistance showed big differences of 10 % regardless of turbulence modeling. When turbulence modeling and discretization were set the same value, friction, pressure and total resistance showed almost same result within 0.3 % depending on the grid number. Lastly, When turbulence modeling and discretization were fixed the same value, the friction resistance showed differences within 5~8 % but the pressure resistance showed small differences depending on the $Y_P+$.

  • The recent occurrence of vacant houses in urban areas is a remarkable social problem. One of the physical declines, the occurrence of vacant houses, accelerates various social and economic declines, such as a decline in population and a slump in the commercial district. Vacant houses have regional characteristics and spatial influence, and it is necessary to approach them locally in order to grasp the exact status of vacant houses. Therefore, in this study, the effect of urban decline on the occurrence of vacant homes was examined by region using global Moran's I and Geographic Weighted Regression(GWR) model. As a result of the analysis, there were spatial autocorrelation and heterogeneity in the occurrence of vacant houses in each eup·myeon·dong, Busan metropolitan city. In addition, there is a difference in the influence of each variable of urban decline on the occurrence of vacant houses, and even the same variable of urban decline has different effects on the occurrence of vacant houses in different regions. Therefore, it is expected that a more efficient vacant home management plan can be presented if the GWR model is used to analyze the coefficient values differentiated by region and categorize the occurrence of vacant houses.

  • Small ships (<499 GT) constitute 46% of the existing ships, therefore, it can be concluded that they produce relatively high CO2 gas emissions. Operating in optimal trim conditions can reduce the resistance of the ship, which results in fewer greenhouse gases. An affordable way for trim optimization is to adjust the weight distribution to obtain an optimum longitudinal center of gravity (LCG). Therefore, in this study, the effect of LCG changes on the resistance of a small planing ship is studied using empirical and numerical analyses. The Savitsky method employing Maxsurf resistance and the STAR-CCM+ commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is used for the empirical and numerical analyses, respectively. Finally, the total resistance from the ship design process is compared to obtain the optimum LCG. To summarize, using numerical analysis, optimum LCG is achieved at the 46.2% length overall (LoA) at Froude Number 0.56, and 43.4% LoA at Froude Number 0.63, which provides a significant resistance reduction of 41.12 - 45.16% compared to the reference point at 29.2% LoA.

  • Biotope, which represents the characteristic habitats of living organisms, need to be identified as essential for the efficient creation and sustainable management of urban ecosystems. This study was carried out to provide the basic information for ecological urban planning by analyzing types and attributes of the biotop established throughout the whole area of the Pohang city, a representative industrial city in Korea. The biotop established in Pohang city is composed of 12 types including forests (coniferous, deciduous, and mixed forests), agricultural fields (rice paddy and upland field), green facilities, river, reservoir, bare ground, residential area, public facilities, commercial area, industrial area, roads, and schools. As a result of analyzing the properties according to biotop types, industrial, commercial and residential areas, which represent urban areas, was dominated by introduced vegetation. Moreover the introduced vegetation is usually composed of exotic plants or modified forms for landscape architecture and horticulture rather than native plants, which reflects ecological property of both region and site. As the distance from the urban center increases, the agricultural field showed a form of typical farmland, whereas the closer it is, the more form of greenhouse farming. Natural green spaces were divided into riparian vegetation established along the stream and forest vegetation. Forest vegetation is consisted of secondary forests (seven communities) and plantations (three communities). The urban landscape of Pohang city is dominated by the industrial area. Among them, the steel industry, which occurs large amounts of heat pollution and carbon dioxide, occupies a large proportion. On the other hand, green space is very insufficient in quantity and inferior in quality. This study proposed several restoration plans and further, a green network, which ties the existing green spaces and the green space to be restored as a strategy to improve the environmental quality in this area.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of magnesium (Mg) concentrations in nutrient solution on growth of and nutrient uptake by 'Maehyang' strawberry. Tissue analysis based on dry weight and petiole sap were also conducted to determine the threshold level in plants when Mg deficiency disorders developed in strawberry plants. In the Mg deficient plants, the spotted yellowing or yellowing area developed on the interveinal area of mature leaves. The dark brown color also developed on the interveinal area of mature leaves with marginal browning or marginal necrosis. The response in dry weight production of 'Maehyang' strawberry to elevated Mg concentrations in nutrient solution was quadratic and the equation is y=6.84+1.7533x-$0.9278x^2$ $(R^2=0.1081^{***})$. But the Mg contents in tissue increased lineally with the equation of y=0.1764+0.1275x $(R^2=0.8307^{***})$. The trends of fresh weight production and Mg concentrations in petiole sap were also quadratic (y=24.127+7.3565x-$1.125x^2$, $R^2=0.2314^{^***}$) and linear (11.954+5.793x, $R^2=0.6869^{***}$), respectively. To prevent growth suppression, the Mg concentrations based on dry weight of above ground tissue and in petiole sap should be in the range of 0.30 to 0.65% and 19 to $40mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$, respectively, fer the commercial production of 'Maehyang' strawberry.

  • As interest in eco-friendly architecture and Korean traditional culture is increasing, interest in contemporary han-ok is steadily increasing. Recently, many people experienced the han-ok directly and indirectly with the attention of a commercial contemporary han-ok such as restaurants, coffee shops, and lodging facilities, and as a result, the house has a preference for the residence of the contemporary han-ok. Compared to modern residential houses, however, han-ok is lack the convenience of heating and cooling, energy management, security, and maintenance. For this reason, the increased interest and preference for han-ok does not lead to living in contemporary han-ok. This study was conducted in the following ways to improve inconvenience by applying smart home services to contemporary han-ok. Recent technology trends in smart home services and technologies developed and marketed to date have been identified in previous research cases and literature studies. Based on this, a list of smart home services and their application methods were derived that would relieve the inconvenience of contemporary han-ok for smart home services. We hope that this research will serve as a reference for subsequent researchers studying contemporary han-ok.

  • In this paper, an ASIC emulation system called ACE (ASIC Emulator) is proposed. It can produce the prototype of target ASIC in a short time and verify the function of ASIC circuit immediately The ACE is consist of emulation software in which there are EDIF reader, library translator, technology mapper, circuit partitioner and LDF generator and emulation hardware including emulation board and logic analyzer. Technology mapping is consist of three steps such as circuit partitioning and extraction of logic function, minimization of logic function and grouping of logic function. During those procedures, the number of basic logic blocks and maximum levels are minimized by making the output to be assigned in a same block sharing product-terms and input variables as much as possible. Circuit partitioner obtain chip-level netlists satisfying some constraints on routing structure of emulation board as well as the architecture of FPGA chip. A new partitioning algorithm whose objective function is the minimization of the number of interconnections among FPGA chips and among group of FPGA chips is proposed. The routing structure of emulation board take the advantage of complete graph and partial crossbar structure in order to minimize the interconnection delay between FPGA chips regardless of circuit size. logic analyzer display the waveform of probing signal on PC monitor that is designated by user. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed emulation system, video Quad-splitter, one of the commercial ASIC, is implemented on the emulation board. Experimental results show that it is operated in the real time of 14.3MHz and functioned perfectly.

  • In recent years, gas engines fueled with LNG or synthetic gas have been attracting considerable attention for marine use owing to their potential to facilitate better fuel economy and to reduce emissions. It has been confirmed that gas engines using the Otto cycle, which involves premixed combustion, can satisfy Tier III regulations without the EGR or SCR system. The objective of this study is to acquire simulation technologies for predicting gas engine performances in industrial fields. Using the commercial software BOOST, the simulation is conducted on a gasoline engine rather than a marine engine due to the gasoline engine's easier accessibility. This study consists of two stages. In the first stage published previously, the optimal modeling techniques for representing the behavior of the gas in the intake and exhaust systems were determined. In the current study, we formulated a method to evaluate the combustion and heat transfer processes in the cylinder and to ultimately determine the major performance parameters, given that the analytical model derived from the previous stage has been applied. Through this study, we were able to determine a combustion and heat transfer model and a valve discharge coefficient that are less reliant on empirical data: we were also able to formulate a methodology through which relevant constants are decided. We confirmed that the values of transient cylinder pressure variation, indicated mean effective pressure, and air supply can be successfully predicted using our modeling techniques.
