  • For bringing about a revolution in studying the classic literature the positivism must be overcome and the imaginative power about the history, literature and religion must be exercised. The theme of the monk-mask-play had been interpreted from the both viewpoint; the traditional mask play is the profane drama, but, on the other hand, it is the sacred drama. Judging from the social viewpoint, the sexual union of the old monk and the beauty symbolizes the reconciliation between the governing class and the production class. Judging from the viewpoint of the equalitarianism, that symbolizes the harmony of a masculinity and a femininity. Judging from the viewpoint of the education, that symbolizes the unification of reason and sensitivity. Judging from the viewpoint of the religion, that means the resurrection.

  • In this study, as the first attempt to develop an experiential game tourism program using Korean classical literature, the primary research was conducted on Kim Soo-Jang and his anthology "Hae Dong Ga Yo". To this end, a theoretical review of the value of hands-on games and Korean classical literature as tourism content was conducted first. Afterwards, the consumers for the program were set up into three categories: family unit, MZ generation including lovers, and foreigners. A survey was conducted to confirm the program preference of each group. According to the analysis framework, the main value of each historical and cultural resource in "Hae Dong Ga Yo" and seven sijo pieces created by Kim Soo-Jang was discovered and, based on the survey, the preferences of the consumer related to the target were analyzed. Accordingly, the narrative structures were organized differently for each group. An adventure plot was designed for the family unit, a love plot for MZ generation and lovers, and a mixture of adventure and love for foreigners. Utilizing stories from Kim Soo-Jang and his works, which are rarely used despite their value, this study attempted to develop them into hands-on game tourism programs to create new outlets in terms of both Korean classical literature and the tourism area. In the future, if various Joseon literati are discovered and their storytelling is continued, we can expect the vitalization of the travel product line with the concept of classical literature travel.

For this we used DBs of The 'Encyclopedia of Korean Local Culture(a local culture DB)' built by the Academy of Korean Studies, and a survey was conducted on 418 high school students, attending a classical literature class which used a local culture DB. The result of this study demonstrates media usefulness of local culture DBs' positive effect on learning commitment. Specifically, media richness and media experience affects the learning commitment through the medium usefulness. These results indicate that in order to encourage learner's medium experience and increase medium richness it is necessary to increase the utilization of mediums, such as local culture DBs.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how the Korean classic novel "Shimcheong-jeon" has transformed in juvenile literature since the 2000s. Classical novels are far from modern and temporal, differ from modern cultures. Classic novels are also different from the lives and thoughts of modern children. It is therefore difficult for modern child readers to easily understand or agree with classical novels. In order for classical novels to have the meaning in the present, it is necessary to pay attention to the encounter between classical novels and children's literature. In the case of "Shimcheong-jeon", unlike other classical novels, there are many creative fairy tales. There are seven kinds of fairy tales that transformed "Shimcheong-jeon". They are diverse in genres such as picture books, fairy tales, and juvenile fiction, and are intended for a variety of ages. These works are described in various perspectives such as, Shimcheong who is full of desire, Shim Hakgyu who is disabled, Ppaengdeog's mother who has maternity and subjectivity, The dragon of the dragon king and Byeogdeog who loves Shimcheong, and Shin Cheong who has a dream. The themes of the works vary. So, These works extend our expectations for classical literature. Fairy tales that transformed "Shimcheong-jeon" reflect the lives of children and youths, this is important because it can reduce the distance between classical novels and children and youth readers. Classical novels are modernized and give new meaning to modern children and youths. And it reflects the characteristics of the novels of Pansori's "Shimcheong-jeon", preserving the value of classics. Tears of Paengdeok is a story that explains the origin of Pansori "Shimcheong-ga", and inserts some lyrics of Pansori, in the case of Cheong, Cheong, Pansori style is used. Although humor is the greatest feature of pansori, there are few of Fairy tales that transformed "Shimcheong-jeon". It is a direction to worry and to orient when transforming "Shimcheong-jeon" into a fairy tale.

  • Objectives : An error was found in the recent standard by the World Health Organization (WHO) on the locations of the Upper arm Route of Lung Meridian (URLM) and its acupoints LU3 and LU4. This possible incorrect information is being taught throughout Korean medicine colleges nationwide, which follow WHO standards. Therefore, an investigation is required to sort out this discrepancy based on the evidence in historical documents. Methods : The location of WHO's URLM and LU3 and LU4 were compared with corresponding information in the classical literature. The anatomical structure mentioned in these classical documents was examined. Finally, an assessment was conducted on whether this structure is reflected in the WHO standards. Results : Classical literature prior to the early 20th century records the locations of the Lung Meridian and LU3 and LU4 of the upper arm to be in the artery on the medial aspect. This artery corresponds to the brachial artery. The location established by the WHO is on the anterolateral side of the upper arm, where no large arteries exist that can be found by haptic search or angiographically. The anterolateral side of the upper arm belongs to the Yang aspect, which does not coincide with the Yin aspect of Lung Meridian. Conclusions : The WHO's URLM and LU3-4 standards do not agree with the classical literature. The correct route must coincide with the brachial artery passing through the medial side of the humerus. The actual location of LU3-4 is on the medial aspect of the arm, just medial to the border of the biceps brachii muscle, on the brachial artery, 3-4 B-cun inferior to the anterior axillary fold.

  • This paper aims to identify the characteristics of literary therapy in relation to literature education. It also intends to clarify its distinctiveness. Literary therapy is not to teach literature. It does not deliver knowledge on agreed analyses, backgrounds and the nature of genres. Literary therapy encourages participants to fully appreciate one's thought and emotions and express them. The end goal is self-knowledge rather than the understanding of texts. Literary therapy focuses on self-knowledge through literatures as opposed to literature education which aims to encourage understandings of literature texts. In literary therapy, literature is media for personal growth facilitating self-expansion. Literature works enable participants to view oneself objectively by the means of one's responses to literature works. Literary therapy has more permissive viewpoints on recipients' response to literature texts than literature education. In addition, the subject of literary therapy is more unique and individualistic.

  • In this study, I investigate the literary features and educational values of spoken travelogues by analyzing a travelogue about the Diamond Mountains by a farmer named Im, Chul-ho, a very interesting travelogue told for 70 minutes. It seems to have educational significance as a wonderful piece of literary work. The literary features of this tale can be summarized as follows. (1) It is truly 'literature of reality' which fully brings out literary appreciation; It evokes interest and emotional tension on the part of audience through vivid verbal embodiment of personal experiences; (2) It is a well constructed big story embedding small stories within it. The stories from many different travel points emerge into a whole unified story making it much richer and more attractive; and (3) It truly reflects the experiences and emotions of ordinary people. As such, it can be regarded as their spiritual property. In addition, spoken travelogues could be valuable as an object in literature education. It needs to be included in the literature curriculum and treated in the same way as written travelogues. With strengths as instructional materials, it could be effectively used to improve students' ability to express their daily experiences with literary sensibility and to make them better understand the lives of ordinary people in the past.
