  • We here report nine species of Tephritidae and five species of Platystomatidae from North Korea deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (five new Korean records marked with asterisks): Acidiella pachypogon, Campiglossa $absinthii^*$, C. hirayamae, C. $loewiana^*$, Sphaeniscus atilius, Tephritis $brachyura^*$, Tephritis $sinensis^*$, Trupanea amoena, Xanthomyia $alpestris^*$, Rivellia alini, R. apicalis, R. asiatica, R. longialata, and R. nigroapicalis. Except for C. hirayamae, all other species are newly recorded in North Korea. As a result, a total of 22 tephritid and five platystomatid species are recognized for the North Korean tephritoid fauna. In South and North Korea together, a total of 120 nominal species of six tephritoid families are now officially recognized (1 Lonchaeidae, 1 Pallopteridae, 1 Ctenostylidae, 14 Platystomatidae, 14 Pyrgotidae, and 89 species of Tephritidae).

  • The leucosiid crabs are common species on soft sediment from the intertidal flat to shelf and slope depths. The genus Nursia Leach, 1817 is characterized by the pentagonal shape of the carapace and the presence of the buccal cavern on the pterygostomian region. As a result of the systematic study on the Korean brachyuran species, Nursia rhomboidalis (Miers, 1879) is newly recorded in Korean fauna. Korean Leucosiidae is now composed of 14 species belonging to eight genera. The description and illustrations of this species are provided.

  • The complete larval development of Chiromantes haematocheir was obtained by laboratory rearing. Five zoeal and one megalopal stages are described and illustrated in detail. Morphological characteristics of the larvae slightly differ from those of Lee (1988), especially in the setal presence of mouthpart appendages. Seven sesarminid zoeas (Parasesarma acis, Parasesarma pictum, Perisesarma bidens, Sesarmops intermedius, Chiromantes dehaani, Chiromantes haematocheir, and Nanosesarma gordoni) can be distinguished from each other in characters of the carapace spines, the antennal exopod and the fork of telson. A provisional key is first provided to aid the identification of seven sesarminid zoeas in Korea.

  • Two pinnotherid crabs, Pinnixa penultipedalis and Sakaina japonica, collected from Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, South Korea, are newly recorded in Korea. These two species are unique representatives of their respective genera in local waters. The family Pinnotheridae currently comprises nine species in Korea. In this article, brief descriptions and illustrations of selected parts of these crabs are provided as evidence for their correct identifications.

  • An ovigerous hair crab, Telmessus acutidens, was collected in South Korean waters and its larvae were reared in the laboratory. The larval development consists of four zoeal (including an extra zoeal stage) and one megalopal stages. Four zoeal stages are described and illustrated in detail. The zoeas of the present material show some differences from Kurata (1963)'s plankton-collected zoea of T. acutidens in the characteristics of the carapace spines, an endopod and an exopod of the antenna, and the posterolateral process of the abdominal somite. Kurata's zoea agreed well with that of T. cheiragonus. So, it is suggested that Kurata's zoea may be the second zoea of T. cheiragonus.

  • The first zoeal characters of Sesarmops intermedius (De Haan, 1835) [=Sesarma (Sesarma) intermedium], belonging to the family Sesarmidae, are described and illustrated in detail based on laboratory-hatched material from a female collected from Gangjeung, Seogwipo, Jeju Island. Morphological comparison is performed based on previous descriptions of Sesarma (Sesarma) intermedium from Japan and three other species in the Sesarmidae. The first zoea of Sesarmops intermedius can be readily distinguished from those of the three species Chiromantes haematocheir [=Sesarma (Holometopus) haematocheir], Chiromantes dehaani [=Sesarma (Holometopus) dehaani], and Parasesarma pictum [=Sesarma (Parasesarma) pictum] by the presence of two setae on the exopod of the antenna, fine setae on the inner and outer margin of the forked spine of the telson, and three aesthetascs and one simple seta on the antennule.
