The purpose of this study is to investigate the additional functions of the kitchen and figure out the related variables. The survey method was used to collect data from 321 housewives living in the apartment sized over 99$\textrm{m}^2$(30 pyung) in Ulsan. The data were analyzed by SPSS/$PC^+$ with frequency, percent, and chi-squared test. The results of this study were: (1) Kitchen was now used for eating snacks(45.6%), keeping household account(42.5%), and chatting(41.6%). (2) Homemakers wanted to do laundry such as ironing, drying clothes, and folding clothes in the kitchen. • This study researches the dwelling satisfaction about apartment remodeling by inspecting ten apartments located in Gwang-Ju, Jun-Nam province. The method of study is to use the field study method, which is based on cultural anthropology, and the participant observation method at same time. According to the research, we find those things as they follow. First, the participation of residents and the mutual agreement are necessary in the process of the selecting a company. Furthermore it's hard to solve the problem about an uniform design and an inferior construction. These things are the most serious factor in dissatisfaction of resident environment. Second, the space of storage and veranda should be separated for the proper functions and the space for laundry is necessary. The rooms, except bedroom, and the bathroom in the main living room should be used for practical application because they are not used so often and if we make the veranda as a inner space, we've got to make a gardening plan, too. Through this research we find out that the participation of an expert company and residents for enough communication and mutual agreement and the space plan for the satisfaction of occupants are necessary for the proper apartment remodeling.

  • The purpose of this study is to accomplished an in-site evaluation method for existing building insulation status using Infra-red camera and to consider improvement performance to prevent condensation and draw the optimum insulation design method for building using simulation tool. The research contents of this study are to evaluate validity and suitability of building insulation defect survey using Infra-red camera for apartment housing with temperature and heat flow pattern analyze method. Based on this research, the three corners, weak part in condensation, were selected in apartment building and conducted simulation by three-dimensional steady state. From the results, it is required to strengthen insulation design, and it is founded that existing insulation system typically applied to most Korean apartment housings have serious insulation defect that insulation is disconnected by structural components at the joints of wall-slab and wall-wall in envelope. Thus, it is considerate to need a concrete technology improvement.

  • A study on Composing Unit Spaces of Apartment Houses according to the Differentiation in Lifestyle by survey on preferences. The purpose of this study is to propose composition models of unit spaces for 85m2 net area apartment houses by lifestyle types. This study set up a hypothesis that there is a critical divergence of preferences in composition types of unit spaces according to lifestyle. To prove the hypothesis, investigation on variable floor plans of apartments to extract spatial composition types of units and questionnaire survey on lifestyleand preferences for composition types were implemented. To extract several factors regarding, characteristics of lifestyle, factor analysis, was implemented for each variable. Cluster analysis was conducted to cluster interviewees by similarity of lifestyle. To identify and define how each factor reacts, ANOVA and cross tabulation analysis between factors and clusters were used. The type of spatial composition was analyzed by plane characteristic, spatial relation and spatial usability on the basis of apartment plate type. As a result, lifestyle was divided into three types: reasonable lifestyle, trend-seeking lifestyle and conservative lifestyle. As, the result of investigating characteristics for the type of spatial composition according to the type of lifestyle, preferred types and main districts were different. Therefore, the hypothesis was proved.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the relationships between spatial characteristics and social functions of elderly center in apartment complex. The data for the analysis were collected from July 3 to 13, 2012 in Ulsan by interviewing 177 elderly persons from 56 elderly centers in apartment complex, and were analyzed with descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis. The eleven questions for social functions of elderly center were developed by the researchers based on the related literatures and were categorized into four factors including kinship, social interaction, leisure activity, and community belonging. The social functions of elderly center were found to be evaluated moderately appropriate except for the community belonging. The results of the multiple regression analysis of total social functions of elderly center provide strong support for the model. Five variables (one-person household, health condition, location of the center, floor plan of the center, and user organization) are shown to be significantly related to total social functions of the elderly center.

  • Apartments have been the most prevalent type of housing in Korea for the past few decades. During those times, apartments have emerged as one of the most attractive real estate properties in Korea, with the still growing population living in them. Now that over twenty years have passed since the 1970s and 1980s when apartment construction started booming, building stocks are increasing that need refurbishment. In this concern, apartment extension has raised public interest for the past few years, as the remodeling of them has mainly been considered in terms of increasing asset value in Korea. It comes through in our study that these extension types are examined by such items as building core types, number of rooms and front and rear bays in unit, and other design features related to extension techniques. The objective of this study is to suggest a way to produce the best quality possible of unit plan through extension.
