  • This study was carried out to determine the effects of shading and leaf mold treatment on growth characteristics and photosynthesis responses of Peucedanum japonicum in forest farming. It is very valuable as a sort of health food, so that the demand for the vegetable has increased recently. The experiment can not only increase the yield but also contribute to the development of eco-friendly technology for high-quality P. japonicum. It was performed by shading treatments (full sunlight, 35%, 50% and 75% shading) and leaf mold treatments (control, pine tree and chestnut tree). Height, stem diameter, root collar diameter, number of stem and dry weight were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under full sunlight. Leaf area, leaf length and leaf width were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under 35% shading. Photosynthetic rate, conductance to $H_2O$, transpiration rate and water use efficiency were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under full sunlight. Specially, photosynthetic rate was higher under chestnut-leaf mold in all shading treatment, and getting lower in the higher shading rate. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, it is concluded that P. japonicum grows nicely by maintaining 35% shading under chestnutleaf mold in forest farming. Thus, it is the most effective way to increase the yield for high-quality P. japonicum with eco-friendly technology.

  • This study classified the types of major forest vegetation and analyzed the syngeographical characteristics of the vegetation in the Mt. Deokhang with exhumed lime rocks. The forest vegetation on the ridge of Mt. Deokhang was classified into 1 community group, 3 communities, 2 groups, and 2 subgroups, 5 types in total. The syngeographical form of Deokhangsan fully exhibited the topographical peculiarity, proximity to subalpine, and limestone zone. In addition, Carex ciliato-marginata, Carex humilis var. nana, and so forth which appear as species with high consistency in the well-drained semiarid zone represent the soil environment of the lime stone area and northern plants such as Carex ussuriensis and Asplenium ruta-muraria represent the characteristics of the vegetation in alpestrine in close proximity. Moreover, the Carpinus turczaninowii in the area appears to show the characteristics of migratory vegetation due to the peculiarity of the habitat. The syngeographical characteristics of this study area show both the characteristics of the habitat and phytogeographic characteristics. Furthermore, they are expected to contribute to the diversity in community and habitat form in Korean peninsula in terms of vegetation science.

  • Using visible-near infrared(Vis-NIR) spectra combined with machine learning methods, the feasibility of quick and non-destructive classification of Convolvulaceae species was studied. The main aim of this study is to classify six Convolvulaceae species in the field in different geographical regions of South Korea using a handheld spectrometer. Spectra were taken at 1.5 nm intervals from the adaxial side of the leaves in the Vis-NIR spectral region between 400 and 1,075 nm. The obtained spectra were preprocessed with three different preprocessing methods to find the best preprocessing approach with the highest classification accuracy. Preprocessed spectra of the six Convolvulaceae sp. were provided as input for the machine learning analysis. After cross-validation, the classification accuracy of various combinations of preprocessing and modeling ranged between 43.4% and 98.6%. The combination of Savitzky-Golay and Support vector machine methods showed the highest classification accuracy of 98.6% for the discrimination of Convolvulaceae sp. The growth stage of the plants, different measuring locations, and the scanning position of leaves on the plant were some of the crucial factors that affected the outcomes in this investigation. We conclude that Vis-NIR spectroscopy, coupled with suitable preprocessing and machine learning approaches, can be used in the field to effectively discriminate Convolvulaceae sp. for effective weed monitoring and management.

  • In this study, the sustainability of Abies nephrolepis in the presence of Tripterygium regelii was analyzed. To accomplish this, a field survey of140 stands was conducted. Based on the presence or absence of T. regelii, as well as the layer in which it was present (where appropriate), the type of T. regelii presence wasclassified as follows: TP type, indicating the presence of T. regelii in the tree and sub-tree layers; SP type, indicating its presence in the shrub layer; and A type, indicatingits absence from all layers. The indicator species analysis revealed T. regelii to be an indicator species of the TP type and SP type. The MRPP test was used to examine the differences among the types. Moreover, the seedling and DBH class analysis indicated there to be a difficulty in terms of the status competition, as the number of young trees generated by A. nephrolepis was the lowest in the TP type. The findings of this study enhanced our understanding of the vegetation structure of A. nephrolepis, thereby contributing to efforts concerningits conservation and management.

  • A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of collected region(Bongpyeong in Gangwon, 690 m, Mt. Halla in Jeju, 1,085 m), pre-treatment (stratification, soaked in distilled water or $GA_3$) and shading (control, 50%, 80%) on seed emergence and seedlings growth of Ligularia fischeri. The result showed that seed emergence (%) of L. fischeri were 6.9~75.5% (Gangwon : 6.9~32.8%, Halla : 22.2~75.5%). Maximum seed emergence (%) of 32.8 (Gangwon) and 75.5 (Halla) were achieved for seeds were stratified, soaked in distilled water, and under non-shading for L. fischeri (Gangwon), whereas seeds were stratified, soaked in $GA_3$ 100 ppm, and under 80% shading for L. fischeri (Halla). In this study, the best seedling vigor index (SVI) of L. fischeri (Gangwon) and L. fischeri (Halla) were obtained when seeds were stratified, soaked in distilled water, and under 50% shading. The survival rate of potted seedlings for L. fischeri (Halla) were 100% of all shading conditions, but there were decreased by 77.8%, 61.1%, 55.6%, as an increasing shading rate (con, 50%, 80%) for L. fischeri (Gangwon). Therefore, good seedlings were obtained when seed (Mt. Halla) of L. fischeri were stratified, soaked in distilled water, and under 50% shading, and then seedlings were transferred in pot.

  • The chromosome morphology of two Korean Lactuca (L. indica, L. triangulata) is reported herein. The chromosome number and karyotype of a naturalized plant, L. scariola are reported for the first time. The basic chromosome number was x = 9. Polyploid forms were not recorded. The karyotypes of L. indica, L. scariola, and L. triangulata were 2 n = 18 = 2 m+ 7 sm, 2 n = 18 = 1 m + 6 sm+ 2 st, 2 n = 18 = 2 m + 5 sm+ 2 st, respectively. Both L. indica and L. triangulata had satellites at the ends of their short arms. The haploid genome lengths of L. indica, L.scariola, and L. triangulata were $56.3{\mu}m$, $35.3{\mu}m$, and $72.5{\mu}m$ respectively. Each chromosome length of naturalized L. scariola was $2.7-5.2{\mu}m$; the smallest among Korean Lactuca. The chromosome lengths of L. indica and L. triangulata were $4.7-7.6{\mu}m$ and $2.9-7.9{\mu}m$, respectively. The karyotype of L. scariola differed from that of L.indica and L.triangulata both of which belong to sect. Tuberosae. Therefore, L. scariola is thought to belong to sect. Lactuca subsect. Lactuca.

  • Somatic chromosome counts and karyotype analyses were carried out for eight taxa of Korean Allium sect. Sacculiferum. The basic chromosome number of sect. Sacculiferum was x = 8, and they could be cytologically divided into two groups, that is, a diploid group (2n = 2x = 16) containing A. thunbergii var. thunbergii, A. thunbergii var. deltoides, A. thunbergii var. teretifistulosum, A. deltoidefistulosum, A. longistylum, A. linearifolium and A. taqueti, and a tetraploid group (2n = 4x = 32) with only A. sacculiferum. All observed chromosomes were classified into metacentric, submetacentric and subtelocentric. The metacentric ones appeared in all treated taxa. One or two pairs of submetacentric chromosomes were observed in most taxa except A. sacculiferum, the unique taxon with subtelocentric chromosomes. All taxa had a pair of homologous chromosomes with satellites, and the B-chromosomes found in A. thunbergii var. thunbergii, A. deltoidefistulosum, A. sacculiferum and A. longistylum, were metacentric or telocentric. The karyotypes of A. longistylum and A. linearifolium were firstly investigated in this study. In conclusion, the somatic chromosome numbers and karyotypes for members of the sect. Sacculiferum were valuable characters in identifying taxa, investigating interspecific relationships and delimiting taxa. In addition, A. thunbergii var. teretifolium, an invalid name (homonym), was renamed as A. thunbergii var. teretifistulosum H. J. Choi & B. U. Oh.

IAA(250, 500, 1,000 ppm), IBA(250, 500, 1,000 ppm), NAA(250, 500, 1,000 ppm), 루팅(200배) 수용액에 50개의 삽수묘를 3분간 절단기부를 침지 후 모래에 치상하였으며, 무처리구는 바로 치상하였다.
