바퀴 독먹이제의 살충 효과 및 지속성 검증 (Insecticidal Effect of Cockroach Baits and their Persistent Efficacy Against the German Cockroach, Blattella germanica)

  • 바퀴는 혐오감을 줄 뿐만 아니라 여러 종류의 병원체를 기계적으로 전파하는 주요한 위생곤충이며, 바퀴 방제를 위해 독먹이제를 가장 많이 사용한다. 본 연구에서는 4종류(chlorpyrifos, avermectin, hydramethylnon 및 fipronil)의 살충 주성분이 각각 함유된 국내 유통 독먹이제 3종(Korea Combat Ultra Slim (K-CUS), Korea Combat Power (K-CP) 및 Korea Zaps Dual Bait (K-ZDB))과 미국 유통 독먹이제 3종(US Combat Source Kill Max (US-CSKM), US Hot Shot MaxAttrax Roach Bait (US-HSM) 및 US Raid Double Control Small Roach Bait (US-RDC))의 독일바퀴(Blattella germanica)에 대한 살충효력을 검증하였다. 6종의 독먹이제 중 fipronil을 살충 주성분으로 사용하는 세 가지의 독먹이제(K-CUS, K-CP 및 US-CSKM)가 속효성 및 높은 살충효과를 나타내었다. K-CUS과 K-CP의 살충효력의 지속성을 검정하기 위해 두 제품을 개봉 후 6개월 및 12개월 이후에 추가로 생물검정을 실시한 결과, 두 제품 모두 시간이 지남에 따라 제품 개봉 직후에 비해 살충효과가 감소하는 경향을 보였지만, 40시간 이내 독일바퀴에 대한 사충률이 90%에 도달하는 것을 감안하면 적어도 이들 독먹이제의 옥내 설치 후 1년동안은 살충효과가 유지되는 것으로 판단된다.

미중 무역전쟁과 게임이론: 협상력 비대칭 상황에서의 협조적 균형 가능성 (US-China Trade War and Game Theory in Asymmetric Bargaining Power)

  • This study applies diverse game theories to the US-China Trade War. The US-China Trade War can be analyzed as a game situation because the strategic decision-making process to maximize one's profit while considering the reaction of the other party is a game situation. However, related research suffered from some mistakes in applying the US-China Trade War as it is to classic game theory, because while the prisoners dilemma is based on the situation of No Communication, No Trust, No Cooperation, the US-China Trade War has a precondition different from that of prisoners dilemma, since it mutually communicates information and negotiation is repeated several times in a cooperative situation. The result of the trade negotiation will likely end as 'cooperate-cooperate'. Further, considering trade volume, trade interdependence, bargaining power based on economy, and the scale of damage caused by the Trade War, the US-China Trade War is progressing with the bargaining power of the US being higher than that of China. Since the current US-China Trade War is in an asymmetrical situation under the dominant bargaining power of the US, it is likely to reach 'US defect-China cooperative' in the long run.

Exports to the US and Imports from China during the US-China Tariff War: Evidence from Regional Trade Data in Vietnam

  • This study empirically investigates how the exports of downstream products to the US change the imports of their upstream products from China during the US-China tariff war. To accomplish this, we use province-level trade data in Vietnam, known to be a country that increased its exports to the US market in place of China, i.e., known to enjoy a trade diversion in the US market. The use of regional trade data enables us to capture the input-output linkages more precisely. Specifically, focusing on the trade in general and electrical machinery industries from January of 2019 to December of 2023, we regress imports of upstream products from China on exports of their downstream products to the US, finding that the rise of exports of downstream products to the US significantly increases imports of their upstream products from China. On the other hand, the rise in these products does not significantly increase the imports of upstream products from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Furthermore, the input-output linkage between exports to the US and imports from China was found to be greater in provinces with better business environments in terms of entry costs, transparency in public services, and public support to businesses.

미국산 쇠고기 수입관세율 변화가 한육우 시장에 미치는 영향분석 (An Analysis of the Impact of US Beef Import Tariff Rate Changes on the Korean Beef Cattle Market)

  • Korea-US FTA amendment became effective January 1, 2019 through several trade negotiations between the two countries. These amendments did not include changes in the agricultural sector. However, given the policy direction of the Trump administration, it is difficult to be certain that the existing Korea-US FTA on the agricultural sector will remain unchanged. This study examines the potential impact of changes in the US beef import tariff rates under the Korea-US FTA, which is progressively eliminated until 2026 using a dynamic partial equilibrium model. The modelling system is simulated with 100% decreases of tariff rates over 2020~2026 period and then compared to the baseline which is developed based on the current Korea-US FTA tariff rates. According to the scenario analyses results, 100% decreases of US beef tariff rate lowered Korean beef cattle production value up to 4.23%. Looking at this change in terms of absolute value rather than percentage, the total production value over 2020~2026 is expected to decrease by 815 billion won compared to Baseline. This reduction in production value in dynamic analysis is 67 billion won higher than the comparative static analysis.

The Impact of US Export Controls on Korean Semiconductor Exports

  • This study empirically investigates the impact of recent US export controls on China on South Korea's semiconductor exports. We analyze South Korean export data to shed light on the repercussions of US export restrictions on a third country. Our findings reveal a significant decline in Korean semiconductor exports following the October 2022 imposition of US controls. This decline was most pronounced in the memory, discrete devices, and discrete device components subsectors of the semiconductor industry. In addition, we observed a decrease in unit prices, especially for memory semiconductors, pointing to downward pressure on South Korea's high-value-added semiconductor exports. These results provide some evidence of substantial negative impacts of US export controls on South Korea's semiconductor industry, and particularly with regard to its high-tech products.

자외선과 초음파를 동시에 조사하는 연계 공정의 시너지 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Synergistic Effects of Hybrid System Simultaneously Irradiating the UV and US)

  • 본 연구는 UV와 US를 함께 조사하는 UV/US 연계 공정을 통해 발생하는 시너지 효과를 조사하고, 이를 효과적으로 오염물질 처리 공정에 적용 가능한지에 대하여 연구하였다. US를 조사하는 경우에는 $H_2O_2$의 농도가 지속적으로 증가하지만, UV/US를 동시에 조사한 경우 $H_2O_2$의 농도가 증가하는 속도가 점점 감소하여 일정 농도로 수렴하는 포화속도곡선의 경향을 보였으며, US가 단독으로 조사되었을 때 생성된 $H_2O_2$와 UV/US 연계 공정을 통해 생성된 $H_2O_2$와의 차이가 오염물질 제거율 향상에 시너지 효과를 일으킨다고 판단된다. 시너지 효과를 검증하기 위해 인체에 유해한 영향을 미치는 가소제 중 하나인 bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate(DEHP)를 이용하여 제거실험을 실시하였다. UV와 US를 동시에 조사하는 UV/US 연계 공정의 경우 DEHP의 제거 유사 일차반응 속도상수(k1)가 $14.81{\times}10^{-3}min^{-1}$로 UV만 조사하는 경우의 $2.60{\times}10^{-3}min^{-1}$과 US만 조사하는 경우의 $10.34{\times}10^{-3}min^{-1}$보다 더 큰 것을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 UV/US 연계 공정에서 DEHP의 제거가 더 활발하게 일어남을 확인하였으며, 이는 시너지 효과에 의한 것이라 판단된다. 또한 DEHP 제거 유사 일차반응 속도상수 값을 이용하여 시너지 효과를 이론적으로 계산한 결과 시너지 효과 값은 1.15로 나타나 기준값인 1보다 큰 값을 가지므로 시너지 효과가 발생했다고 판단된다.

Uncertainty and Manufacturing Stock Market in Korea

  • Purpose - We study the dynamic linkages of the economic policy uncertainty (EPU) in the US on the manufacturing stock market returns in Korea. In detail, we examine the casual link between EPU index in the US and the manufacturing stock indexes in Korea. Research design, data, and methodology - We measure mainly the distribution effect of the US EPU on the manufacturing stock market in Korea of 1990-2017 by the vector error correction model (VECM). Result - In result, we estimate the impact of the US EPU index has significantly a negative response to the manufacturing stock market in Korea such as non-metal stock index, chemical stock index, food stock index, textile·clothes stock index, automobile·shipbuilding stock index, machinery stock index, steel·metal stock index. Also the remaining variables such as electric·electronics stock index, S&P 500, and producer price index in Korea have a negative relationship with US EPU index. Conclusions - We find out that the relationship between EPU index of the US and the manufacturing stock market in Korea has the negative relationships. We determine the EPU of the US has the spillover effect on the industry stock markets in Korea.

한·미 FTA가 한육우 산업에 미친 영향에 대한 사후적 평가 - 전남지역을 중심으로 - (An Ex-post Analysis of the Impact of the Korea-US FTA on the Korean Beef Cattle Industry - Focused on Jeonnam Province -)

  • The Korea-US FTA was one of the most controversial FTAs Korea has ever signed and was expected to have a significant effect on the agriculture sector, especially the livestock industry. This study ex-post analyzed the impact of the Korea-US FTA on the Korean beef industry including the Jeonnam province using a dynamic partial equilibrium model. According to the scenario analysis results, if there was no Korea-US FTA, the beef imports would be reduced to as low as 0.24% to 4.19% compared to the Baseline applying existing Korea-US FTA beef tariff rates over the 2012 to 2022 periods. In addition, if there was no Korea-US FTA, the agricultural product value of Jeonnam and national Korean beef cattle would increase from 0.25% to 7.37% and 0.25% to 7.33%, respectively, compared to the Baseline. The results of the analysis are expected to be used as important information for policy establishment in preparation for CPTPP and supplementation of current FTA policies regarding Korean beef cattle not only for the central government but also Jeonnam province.

Expression of Human Cytomegalovirus Immediate Early US3 Gene in Human Fibroblast Cells

  • US3 gene is a member of the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) immediate early gene. Although the precise functions of the US3 gene in HCMV replication and pathogenesis are not known, it has been reported to play a role in inhibiting major histocompatibility class I antigen presentation. For further knowledge of US3 gene expression, rabbit polyclonal antiserum of the US3 gene product was used for indirect immunofluorescence assay. In permissive human foreskin fibroblast (HFF) cells, US3 gene expression was detectable as crescent or half-moon shape in the perinuclear region at immediate early times after virus infection. HFF cells infected with mutant HCMV lacking US3 open reading frames were negative for US3 immunofluorescence assay. Double immunofluorescence assay using monoclonal antibody to gamma adaptin (specific for the Golgi complex) and rabbit anti-US3 antiserum revealed that US3 gene product could be localized to the Golgi complex. At later time after HCMV infection, US3 gene products were detected as globular aggregates in the cytosol. These aggregates were positive for gamma adaptin and stained with preimmune serum, suggesting a nonspecific reaction to the Golgi complex. Northern blot analysis revealed that transcription of US3 was observed only during immediate early times after virus infection (until 6 h postinfection). Therefore US3 gene expression appears to be confined to immediate early time and its gene products are localized to the Golgi complex as crescent shaped forms in the perinuclear cytoplasm.

Breast Ultrasound Microvascular Imaging and Radiogenomics

  • Microvascular ultrasound (US) techniques are advanced Doppler techniques that provide high sensitivity and spatial resolution for detailed visualization of low-flow vessels. Microvascular US imaging can be applied to breast lesion evaluation with or without US contrast agents. Microvascular US imaging without a contrast agent uses a sophisticated wall filtering system to selectively obtain low-flow Doppler signals from overlapped artifacts. Microvascular US imaging with second-generation contrast agents amplifies flow signals and makes them last longer, which facilitates hemodynamic evaluation of breast lesions. In this review article, we will introduce various microvascular US techniques, explain their clinical applications in breast cancer diagnosis and radiologic-histopathologic correlation, and provide a summary of a recent radiogenomic study using microvascular US.
