Technology standards have gained importance as global market becomes more competitive. Since a technology acknowledged as a standard brings significant benefits to the developer firm, firms in the IT industry tend to pursue standardization for the technology, being it proprietary or open. However, the paths or strategic implications are seldom discussed in academia. Therefore, our study uses iPhone of Apple, one of the proprietary standards successes, to further understand corporate strategies over two standard choices. Our case study suggests that iPhone's entry timing was optimal for creating a new mobile environment. Design excellence and user-friendly interface increased networking effects and switching costs among consumers. Apple developed independent mobile operating system (iOS) through improvement on the existing operating system. During the process, Apple chose proprietary standard and, by installing the same UX on its sibling products such as iPod Touch or iPad, overcame the subsequent problems that might arise from the limited use of iOS. Based on the capability of concurrently developing both hardware and software, Apple connected operating system, machine, and contents, which deems to contribute to its proprietary standards success. We argue that this strategy should be considered for firms which plan proprietary standard strategy.
This study aims to explore self-directed learning strategies of high academic achievers majoring in engineering. The research participants were 21 fourth-year students who had attained the first or second highest cumulative grade point average in each department during the past three-year and were asked to write an essay on "my successful learning methods or techniques." The essays were analyzed by theme analysis method which is one of the qualitative methods to extract the self-directed learning strategies used by high performing students. According to the results of this study, the self-directed learning strategies of excellent students could be categorized into fundamental strategies to induce self-directed learning, preparatory strategies, implementation strategies and management strategies for marinating self-directed learning. Detail information on each category is as follow: 1) fundamental strategies refer to positive and pleasant mind, academic confidence and effort attribution, 2) preparatory strategies refer to concrete and challenging goal setting, establishment of learning strategies adjusted courses characteristics and practical learning planning, 3) implementation strategies refer to intensive learning in class, knowledge exploration, knowledge acquisition, social networking and exhaustive preparation for exams and 4) management strategies refer to time management and learning environment management.

An empirical online survey was conducted from September to December 2019, and data was collected from 200 salespeople and store managers working in fashion stores. Results were analyzed using frequency analysis, factor analysis, variance analysis, and regression analysis with SPSS 25.0. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, the most important job competencies identified by fashion store managers were: sales sense know-how, customer service skills, and sales person's fashion style sense, product knowledge, fashion marketing and customer management. The job competency factors for sales training programs included empathy with the customer, product knowledge, communications and networking, basic job requirement, and sales skills. These five factors positively influenced the employment intentions and expectations of work performance of graduates. These factors also had a positive influence on the need of sales training program and intention to participate in retraining. Store managers in fashion retail thought the most appropriate period for on-the-job training was either 2-4 days or more than 1 week. The results of this study can be used as a base to develop training programs for job efficiency for salespeople in fashion retailing.
Purpose: This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program on developmental positioning (EPDP) for nurses in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Methods: The study utilized a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Sixty NICU nurses were recruited from two university hospitals in Daejeon, South Korea. The EPDP consisted of a 7-week program: 3 weeks of education and practice, followed by 4 weeks of encouragement messages using social networking services. Developmental positioning (DP) posters and DP aids were also provided during the intervention period. The intervention group (n=30) received the EPDP, but not the control group. The data were analyzed using the 𝜒2 test, the Fisher exact test, the independent t-test, and repeated-measures analysis of variance. Results: Participants' knowledge (t=7.49, p<.001), attitudes (t=1.99, p=.001), self-efficacy (t=2.99, p=.004), performance of DP (t=2.98, p=.004) and Infant Positioning Assessment Tool (IPAT) scores (F=29.50, p<.001) were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group. Conclusion: The EPDP can be an effective and useful program for improving the performance of DP among NICU nurses by increasing their knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy of DP. However, further research involving various NICU settings is needed to gather more empirical evidence.
This research was to analyze information network which contributed Anyang Venture Valley's development. And mutual communication between regional innovated companies was the essential factor of this growth. Anyang city with its Knowledge Industry Promotion Agency, KIPA, has first set up communication network, facility and other structures to create basis of communication. For that, they were able to operate various networking and promotion of communication which led to the enforcement of regional innovation in venture businesses. During its innovation, KIPA played a key role as a link between regional Innovated companies, which enabled active interactions between them. If we want to overcome the current IMF-guarded economic situations as early as possible and to change the present industry structure to the new knowledge-based structure, it is a great necessity to increase the capability of technology innovation as a key factor of the international competitiveness, and to establish the infrastructure of venture business for increasing utilization of technologly and patent. Even though there has been a great increase in application and enrollment of the Industrial Property Rights (i.e. IPRs) including patent recently, the number of unused IPRs are increasing progressively every year (for example, the ratio of unused patent is about 60% in 1997), and illegal use of patent and dependance on the foreign patent are increasing sharply. This paper will suggest policy on nurturing venture business for increasing utilization of the unused IPRs, including technology transaction strategy and link strategy of the high-tech industries between metro Taejon and Chungcheong Area.
In 21st century, According to development of Information Technology, It is clear that the importance of tourism information is extended increasingly. For this reason, It should be needed to realize a general system which make it possible to enjoy cyber tourism based on knowledge information system to recover a local potential growth power, catch a jumping chance again, and hold a new competitive power. But to discuss a tourism information system, the matters of hard ware, software and information mediating system should be reviewed generally, this research is likely to provide a cyber tourism information system through internet as a way of cyber tours through multimedia technology and stereoscopic image technique using GIS (Geographic Information System) centering on the networking system of tourism information. Constructing $\ulcorner$cyber touristy city$\lrcorner$ on internet, foster a new industry, to go balanced with a present tourism industry and experience a virtual reality, various theme tours create high profit to shrunken tourism industry.
Generally high-tech ventures have few resources with which to withstand unpredictable environmental jolts. Therefore environmental changes may have severe effects on the performance of high-tech ventures. Unfortunately previous empirical studies for predicting the performance of ventures hardly deal with such dynamic changes of performance. We try to examine the performance changes of ventures through a longitudinal study before and after severe environmental changes, namely IMF Bailout Memorandum. For the empirical study, we classified venture firms into four types based on entrepreneur's assessment of their performance changes and investigated how these four types differ in characteristics of entrepreneurs, environment, strategy, and organizational features. We found that differentiation strategies, fit between strategy and environmental changes, entrepreneur's trust and activities such as networking and knowledge accumulation about customers, and decentralized organizational structure were important to the performance changes of high-tech ventures.
