  • Knowledge has become an important resource for organization. The manufacturing industry is usually operated on the basis of business processes, and most workers are familiar with their own processes. The process-based approach, therefore, can provide an efficient way to capture and navigate knowledge. In this study, we focus on knowledge which may be missed during knowledge transfer among workers. For this, we propose a method for analyzing knowledge flow, which is passed among business processes. We propose a process-based knowledge management framework for analyzing knowledge flow, which employs a two-phase analysis: process analysis and knowledge flow analysis. A knowledge flow model, represented by Knowledge Flow Diagram, is proposed as a tool for representing knowledge. We formulate several semantics for knowledge flow modeling. We build the three-level schema: conceptual, logical, and physical in order to automate the knowledge model adaptive to knowledge management systems. The proposed approach is verified and illustrated through a case study on the manufacturing process of A Company.

  • Companies always competing with rivals in global market ought to cope with various kinds of crises coming from substitutes, new technologies, changing consumer tastes, and government regulations, etc. In this sense, it is highly required that companies should always remain well-prepared for crisis management. Nevertheless, many companies still lack detailed and well-guided strategies about how to handle crisis. This study proposes a case study to propose an effective crisis management by using knowledge management. Cases analyzed by this study are concerned with Daewoo International Corporation (http://www.daewoo.com) and Decoline (http://www.decoline.co.kr) where crises have been successfully overcome by using effective knowledge management strategies, and company performance reached sustainable level.

  • This study examines the impact of knowledge processes (KP) on the performance of knowledge management systems (KMS). It posits that task needs and available functionality of technology existing in an organization could influence the usability of KP and the KMS performance. A firm-level structural model was developed based on data collected from corporate KM users. Survey-based research was carried out to test this model. Following questionnaire development, validation, and pretest with a pilot study, data were collected from 886 knowledge management (KM) users including directors, managers, and workers in a South Korea-based company, Korea Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO), to measure the task needs and available functionality of technology to improve the KMS performance. Results show that the matching between the two factors-technology and task-had a significant influence on the usability of KP and the KMS performance, and a better usability of KP has positive impact on the KMS performance. Implications on KM practices and KMS designs are also discussed.

  • The management of enterprise knowledge has been increasingly important because knowledge emerges as the new basis of competition in postcapitalist society. One of the key issues in knowledge management is to put knowledge into a repository where it can be easily stored, reused, and recreated. This paper proposes a model repository and the corresponding knowledge management framework. The emphases of model repository is on abstraction knowledge in the form of schematic models. Two major benefits are model independence and model integration. A metaschema is constructed according to six conceptual components: separate unit, external link, internal link, separate unite descriptor, link descriptor, and composite descriptor, which can be applied for a variety of models. A prototype system with a case illustrates the practical usefulness of model repository for knowledge management

  • As knowledge is paid attention as a new production factor that generates added value, studies continue to apply knowledge management to business environment. In addition, as ICT (Information Communication Technology) was engrafted in business environment, it leads to increasing task efficiency and productivity of individual workers. Accordingly, the way that a business achieves its goal has changed to one in which its individual members are willing to take part in the organization and share information to create new values (Han, 2003) and studies for the system and service to support such transition are carrying out. Of late, a new concept called 'Enterprise 2.0' newly appears. It is the extension of Wen 2.0 and its technology, which focus on participation, sharing and openness, to the work environment of a business (Jung, 2013). Enterprise 2.0 is being used as a collaborative tool to prop up individual creativity and group brain power by combining Web 2.0 technologies such as blog, Wiki, RSS and tag with business software (McAfee, 2006). As Tweeter gets popular, Enterprise Microblog (EMB), which is an example of Enterprise 2.0 for business, has been developed as equivalent to Tweeter in business circle and SaaS (Software as a Service) such as Yammer was introduced The studies of EMB mainly focus on demonstrating its usability in terms of intra-firm communication and knowledge management. However existing studies lean too much towards large-sized companies and certain departments, rather than a company as a whole. Therefore, few studies have been conducted on small and medium-sized companies that have difficulty preparing separate resources and supplying exclusive workforce to introduce knowledge management. In this respect, the present study placed its analytic focus on small-sized companies actually equipped with EMB to know how they use it. And, based on the findings, this study examined their knowledge management strategies for EMB from the point of codification and personalization. Hypothesis -"as a company grows, it shifts EMB strategy from codification to personalization'- was established on the basis of reviewing precedent studies and literature. To demonstrate the hypothesis, this study analyzed the usage of EMB by small companies that have used it from foundation. For case study, the duration of the use was divided into 2 spans and longitudinal analysis was employed to examine the contents of the blogs. Using the key findings of the analysis, this study is aimed to propose practical implications for the operation of knowledge management of small-sized company and the suitable application of knowledge management system for operation Knowledge Management Strategy can be classified by codification strategy and personalization strategy (Hansen et. al., 1999), and how to manage the two strategies were always studied. Also, current studies regarding the knowledge management strategy were targeted mostly for major companies, resulting in lack of studies in how it can be applied on SMEs. This research, with the knowledge management strategy suited for SMEs, sets an Enterprise Microblog (EMB), and with the EMB applied on SMEs' Knowledge Management Strategy, it is reviewed on the perspective of SMEs' Codification and Personalization Strategies. Through the advanced research regarding Knowledge Management Strategy and EMB, the hypothesis is set that "Depending on the development of the company, the main application of EMB alters from Codification Strategy to Personalization Strategy". To check the hypothesis, SME that have used the EMB called 'Yammer' was analyzed from the date of their foundation until today. The case study has implemented longitudinal analysis which divides the period when the EMBs were used into three stages and analyzes the contents. As the result of the study, this suggests a substantial implication regarding the application of Knowledge Management Strategy and its Knowledge Management System that is suitable for SME.

  • This study conducts statistical analysis based on a survey of 300 CEOs from Korean companies in order to examine the effects of a CEO's internal?external activities (information, knowledge management, learning organization) on business innovation activity (exploitative, exploratory) and business performance. Analysis results show that learning organization activity had a significant positive (+) effect on exploitative and exploratory innovation activity. In addition, knowledge management activity lacked statistically significant effects on exploratory innovation activity. Furthermore, exploitative and exploratory innovation activity was affected by CEO's internal?external activities (information, knowledge management, learning organization) and had a significant positive (+) effect on company's business performance. but it was shown that the level of influence was different. Results of this study imply that maximizing business performance through developing innovation activity by CEO's internal?external activities (information, knowledge management, learning organization) in the company, extracting activity advantageous to company's business environment based on activity perceived in the precedent study and business strategy becomes advantageous to the attainment of business performance objectives.

  • MOCT(Ministry of Construction St Transportation) suggested "A Plan for Implementation of Knowledge-based Economy for the Construction Industry" to add high value to a construction industry. by means of knowledge-based management. However, there is no knowledge management system which considers characteristics of a domestic construction industry. So a useful knowledge vanished the moment a company terminated a construction Uoject. Therefore, it is necessary to develop "An application method of a knowledge management system for the construction industry" which takes a real environment into consideration. This study aims to present the road map of a knowledge management system which helps the bodies of the construction industry(government, research center/university, enterprise, etc) to do a knowledge activity efficiently. To accomplish this objective, we analyzed overall knowledge management activities. In addition we suggested an implementation direction and strategy of a knowledge management system for the construction industry. As results of this study, we presented the road map of a knowledge management system for the construction industry, which is composed of policy forum, study forum, professional forum, research forum and knowledge 8t information DB. We expect that results of this study will be used as a basis for implementing the knowledge portal that brings a construction industry to a high value added industry.
