The Impact of Intellectual Capital on Knowledge Management Processes in Thailand

  • This research explores the effects of intellectual capital on knowledge management processes (creation of information, knowledge sharing, and use of knowledge) and innovation performance. The data was gathered from 224 fashion accessories in Thailand using a questionnaire. The population was collected on December 16, 2019 (https:/www.ditp.go.th) from a list database of the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce of Thailand (2019). A questionnaire mail survey technique was used to collect data. Executives or managers were the key participants in this study. The statistical technique used to analyze is the ordinary least square regression. The findings show that intellectual capital has a significant positive effect on information management systems. Likewise, information management techniques have a significant positive effect on innovation performance. Moreover, increasing the use of information tends to make staff willing to use the knowledge to improve the quality and quantity of the service. This tendency contributes to productivity gain. Through the interaction of processes of information use, self-reflection, and input from customers, employees tend to increase the production of knowledge that eventually develops the results of the innovation. Hence, organizations should value knowledge management process elements to improve efficiency, and thus innovation.

SNS상의 콘텐츠품질이 사용자의 수용태도와 구전활동에 미치는 영향 (The influence of SNS content quality on users' adoption behavior and WOM)

  • Forming a network, through Social Network Services (SNS), among a group of people who share the same hobby or interests could increase the information sharing among the members at an exponential rate. Moreover, SNS users' behavior extends beyond the traditional introverted consumption behavior to a proactive behavior by owning or actively sharing product information. For firms, such proactive consumer behavior translates into marketing effects such as the word of mouth (WOM) effect. Therefore, SNSs are accepted not only as a communications channel between firms and consumers but also as marketing channel, suggesting the possibility of a new revenue source. In this context, we will explore into the factors of SNS contents which conserve firms' image and product information, and effects of the factors on consumer attitude and WOM.

Offshore Outsourcing Success : An Integrated Framework

  • As the digital economy goes global, firms are trying to find suppliers that can address their managerial goals and strategies. The alternatives are not confined to domestic firms. Firms have been trying to connect to foreign partners worldwide. Although offshore outsourcing grants firms various benefits, they present big cultural challenges. However, there is little research on the impact of cultural or country factors on outsourcing. The goal of this paper is to synthesize the outsourcing success literature and develop propositions for outsourcing success in the context of offshore outsourcing. This paper proposes that cultural effects should be included in evaluating the success of offshore outsourcing. Knowledge sharing and the scope of outsourcing are adopted in the base outsourcing success model from previous literature. In the extended model partnership quality is included as a mediator and organizational capability and outsourcing relationship type are also included as moderator. Finally, the integrated framework of offshore outsourcing success includes cultural factors as moderators of the relationships between outsourcing success antecedents and the success of offshore outsourcing. Reasoning for propositions, managerial implications, and future research directions are discussed.

정보기술이 지식경영활동과 성과에 미치는 효과에 대한 실증분석 (An Empirical Analysis of the Effects of Information Technology on Knowledge Management Activity and Performance)

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the impact that occurs when Korean organizations make practical use of various information technology tools and systems in the knowledge management process, such as sharing, learning and creating knowledge. Such a process is usually made through online and offline knowledge management activities. This paper also verifies how the externalization of tacit knowledge, and the internalization of explicit knowledge via the Internet and offline socialization activities have altered the mechanisms of knowledge transfers inside organizations. For the research, a survey was conducted on the satisfaction and usability levels of information technology, and the impact of IT usage on the results of knowledge management activities and knowledge transfers. 622 Korean organizations were surveyed, including major listed firms and public organizations. The results were examined as an online/offline integration process using SECI's Model proposed by Nonaka (1994, 1995). The analysis shows that information technology satisfaction and the usage of information technology help accelerate the pace of the knowledge flow and amplify the volume of the knowledge transfer by boosting the externalization and internalization processes-also known as knowledge management activities. However. there is no distinct correlation between information technology and socialization, an offline knowledge transferal activity. In particular, the quality of knowledge-an end result of knowledge transfer-does not improve merely by the externalization of online knowledge and instead requires the internalization of knowledge processes. Above all, the research reveals that offline socialization processes vastly contribute to the improvement of knowledge quality. This paper suggests that in order to ensure a transfer of quality knowledge, an organization or a company should focus on the use of information technology rather than the satisfaction level of information technology, and that knowledge transfers via the Internet has limitations in creating high quality of knowledge. For an organization to ensure the transfer of high-quality knowledge, the organization should not entirely hinge the transfer of knowledge online, as it is essential to have an offline method-a form of socialization such as a 'community of practice.'

Hiding Sensitive Frequent Itemsets by a Border-Based Approach

  • Nowadays, sharing data among organizations is often required during the business collaboration. Data mining technology has enabled efficient extraction of knowledge from large databases. This, however, increases risks of disclosing the sensitive knowledge when the database is released to other parties. To address this privacy issue, one may sanitize the original database so that the sensitive knowledge is hidden. The challenge is to minimize the side effect on the quality of the sanitized database so that non-sensitive knowledge can still be mined. In this paper, we study such a problem in the context of hiding sensitive frequent itemsets by judiciously modifying the transactions in the database. Unlike previous work, we consider the quality of the sanitized database especially on preserving the non-sensitive frequent itemsets. To preserve the non-sensitive frequent itemsets, we propose a border-based approach to efficiently evaluate the impact of any modification to the database during the hiding process. The quality of database can be well maintained by greedily selecting the modifications with minimal side effect. Experiments results are also reported to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

지식 공유의 파레토 비율 및 불평등 정도와 가상 지식 협업: 위키피디아 행위 데이터 분석 (Pareto Ratio and Inequality Level of Knowledge Sharing in Virtual Knowledge Collaboration: Analysis of Behaviors on Wikipedia)

  • 전체 결과의 80%가 전체 원인의 20%에 의해 일어난다는 파레토 법칙(Pareto principle)은 상위 20%의 핵심 고객에 대한 우선적인 마케팅을 비롯하여 기업 경영의 많은 부분에서 적용되어 왔다. 파레토 법칙과는 대조적으로, 80%의 사소한 다수가 20%의 핵심적인 소수보다 우월한 가치를 창출한다는 롱테일 법칙(Long Tail theory)은 ICT(Information and Communication Technology)의 발전과 함께 새로운 경영 패러다임으로 주목 받아오고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 경영 현장에서 양대 흐름을 형성해온 이러한 법칙들이 변화무쌍한 글로벌 가상화 환경에서 기업의 핵심적인 성공 요인이라고 할 수 있는 가상 지식 협업에는 어떻게 관련되는지를 규명하는 것이다. 이를 위해, 대표적인 가상 지식 협업 커뮤니티인 위키피디아에서 품질 최상위 등급인 피쳐드 아티클(Featured Article) 레벨로 승급된 2,978개의 아티클에 대한 협업 행위를 분석하였다. 즉, 각 아티클 그룹에서 편집 횟수 기준 상위 20%에 속하는 참여자들의 총 편집 횟수가 전체 편집 횟수에서 차지하는 비율인 파레토 비율(Pareto ratio)이 지식 협업 효율성과 어떤 관계를 가지고 있는지를 도출하였다. 그리고, 이러한 연구를 편집 참여를 통한 지식 공유에 대한 전체적인 불평등 정도를 나타내는 지니 계수(Gini coefficient)의 영향 및 그룹의 작업 특성을 반영하도록 확장하였다. 결과적으로, 지식 공유의 파레토 비율과 지니 계수가 증가하면 지식 협업 효율성도 높아지지만, 이러한 변수들이 일정 수준 이상으로 증가하면 오히려 지식 협업 효율성이 낮아지는 역 U자(inverted U-shaped) 관계가 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고, 이러한 관계는 인지적 노력을 상대적으로 더 많이 요구하는 학문적인 특성의 작업에서 더 민감하게 작용하는 것으로 보인다.

온라인 지식공유의 참여정도: 위키피디아에 대한 행태적 접근 (Participation Level in Online Knowledge Sharing: Behavioral Approach on Wikipedia)

  • 급변하는 환경 속에서 지속적인 경쟁우위와 혁신을 위한 지식의 중요성이 증대되면서, 그 동안 지식공유에 관한 많은 연구들이 있었다. 그런데, 이러한 연구들의 대부분이 응답자의 인지오차가 내재된 서베이에 의존해왔다. 본 연구는 대표적인 온라인 지식협업 커뮤니티인 위키피디아 유저들의 온라인 행위만을 토대로 지식공유 참여정도에 대한 행위 특성들간의 관계를 도출하였다. 그런데, 유저들의 편집 참여 패턴이 서로 다르기 때문에 편집횟수는 같아도 재방문기간은 달라질 수 있고 이에 따라 지식공유 결과가 달라질 수 있으므로, 지식공유 참여정도를 아티클 편집 참여횟수와 재방문기간의 두 가지 관점에서 접근하였다. 지식공유 참여정도에 영향을 미치는 행위특성으로는 위키 플랫폼에서 관찰이 가능한, 공적인 토론툴인 아티클 톡과 사적인 메시징 툴인 유저 톡 참여여부 및 정도, 그리고 커뮤니티 등록여부를 사용하였다. 행위 분석은 먼저, 행위특성 차원에 의한 유저 카테고리별 참여정도를 비교하였고, 행위 특성의 정도를 반영하는 독립변수들과 참여정도를 나타내는 종속변수간의 관계에 대한 로버스트 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 특히, 연구가설을 설정하는 단계에서 온라인 환경에 적합한 모티베이션 이론을 도입함으로써, 온라인 지식공유 참여정도에 관한 이론적인 설명 모델을 제시하였다. 결론적으로, 본 연구는 이론적인 시사점 외에 다음과 같은 실제적인 행위 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 공적인 토론 및 사적인 메시징 참여와 지식공유 참여정도간에는 양의 관계가 성립한다. 둘째, 공적인 토론이 사적인 메시징 보다 지식공유 참여정도에 더 큰 영향력을 미친다. 셋째, 아티클 편집 참여횟수에 대해서는 공적인 토론과 사적인 메시징의 시너지 효과가 존재하는 반면에, 재방문기간에 대해서는 아주 약한 음의 상호작용효과를 나타낸다. 넷째, 커뮤니티 등록 여부는 재방문기간에 대해서는 절대적인 양의 영향력을 미치지만, 실질적인 편집 참여횟수에 대해서는 유의한 영향력을 나타내지 않는다. 다섯째, 사적인 메시징에 의한 관계성을 고려할 때, 관계의 범위보다는 빈도 또는 깊이가 더 중요한 것으로 보인다.

간호사의 지식관리활동과 조직유효성과의 관계 (Relationship between Knowledge Management Process and Organizational Effectiveness in Clinical Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree and pattern of knowledge management process, and to identify the relationship between knowledge management process and organizational effectiveness in clinical nurses. Method: Participants were 665 regular clinical nurses who had worked for over 1 year in general units of 9 tertiary medical hospitals including 2 national university hospitals, 5 university hospitals, and 2 hospitals founded by business enterprises. Data were collected from March to May 2003 through questionnaires. Four structured instruments were used to collect the data: Knowledge Management Process Scale(Jeong, Lee, Lee, & Kim, 2003), cCommitment Questionnaire(Mowday, Steers, & Porter, 1979), General Satisfaction Scale(CooK, Hepworth, Wall, & Warr, 1981), and one for general characteristics. The data were analyzed using factor analysis, reliability analysis, descriptive analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, correlation analysis with the SPSS for Windows 10.0 program. Result: 1) The average score for knowledge management process in nurses was $3.08{\pm}.54$ on a 5-point Likert scale. In order from highest mean score, the elements of knowledge management process, were Knowledge $Utilization(3.35{\pm}.57)$, Knowledge $Sharing(3.07{\pm}.58)$, Knowledge $Creation(2.99{\pm}.63)$, and Knowledge $Storage(2.91{\pm}.82)$. 2) Four knowledge management patterns for nurses, which were derived from cluster analysis, were inactivate pattern, delayed pattern, activate pattern, and high-activate pattern of knowledge management. 3) The degree of knowledge management process activation and 4 elements of knowledge management process, Knowledge Creation, Knowledge Storage, Knowledge Sharing, and Knowledge Utilization, were significantly correlated with nurses' organizational commitment and job satisfaction(p=.000). 4) The nurses' organizational commitment and job satisfaction showed significant differences according to the knowledge management patterns derived from cluster analysis of high-activate pattern, activate pattern, delayed pattern, inactivate pattern(p=.000). Conclusion: These results suggest that there are four knowledge management patterns for nurses, and knowledge management process positively affects the nurses' organizational commitment and job satisfaction. From the above findings, knowledge management process is empirically verified as a useful and effective method to increase organizational effectiveness, and develop the organization.

간호사의 정보기술(IT)활용이 지식관리활동에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Information Technology Application on Knowledge Management Process in Clinical Nurses)

Thee structured instruments were used to collect the data: Information Technology Application scale, Knowledge Management Process Scale(Jeong, Lee, Lee, & Kim, 2003), and one for general characteristics. The data were analyzed using reliability analysis, descriptive analysis, one-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}$ test, correlation analysis, partial correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS for Windows 10,0 program. Result: 1) The HIS application degree, IT application ability, and IT application frequency were significantly correlated with the degree of knowledge management process activation and 4 elements of knowledge management process, Knowledge Creation, Knowledge Storage, Knowledge Sharing, and Knowledge Utilization(p=.000). 2) The 3 variables, HIS application degree, IT application ability, and IT application frequency explained 47.2% of the total variance of the degree of knowledge management process activation, and 352% of me total variance of Knowledge Storage. And 2 variables, HIS application degree and IT application frequency explained 17.6% of the total variance of Knowledge Creation, 39.9% of the total variance of Knowledge sharing, and 33.8% of the total variance of Knowledge utilization(p=.000). 3) As a result of multiple regression analysis, the key determinant of the degree of knowledge management process activation for nurses was HIS application degree The HIS application degree, IT application frequency, position, IT application ability, and continuous total numbers of years working at the present hospital explained 51.1% of the total variance of the degree of knowledge management process activation(p=.000). Conclusions: These results suggest that the information technology application positively affects the nurses' knowledge management process. From the above findings, information technology application is empirically verified as a useful and effective method to activate knowledge management process, and knowledge management.

코레일 지식경영 활성화 사례 (The Case of the Knowledge Management Activity of KORAIL)

  • It is well known in KM (Knowledge Management) literature that a certain amount of knowledge is necessary for KM to contribute to corporate performance to some extent. However, for a company to amass knowledge is very difficult due to limited time and poor understandings from employees. Especially, it becomes harder in public organization where simulating financial motif among members is constrained. In this respect, KORAIL, one of typical and leading public organizations in Korea, shows very unique example in which KORAIL succeeds in catalyzing the knowledge circulation process among members, string the resulted working knowledge, and then sharing it to improve working performance at an individual level as well as team level. This KORAIL case will help understand how important the knowledge circulation speed is to improving the corporate performance.
