A Comparative Study of Elementary Science Curriculum between Korea and USA - Focusing on Earth and Space Domain of Third and Fourth Grades - (한국 2009 개정 초등 과학과 교육과정과 미국 초등 과학과 교육과정 비교분석 - 3~4학년군 지구와 우주영역을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this paper was to analyze the characteristics of Korean science curriculum and the differences with the other country. For this purpose, the USA was selected as the target country for comparison. The comparison focused on goals and contents in science curriculum document. The goals for science education in both countries were similar. But the goal setting level was different. Also, four objectives were suggested in Korean curriculum and nine objectives in the USA to achieve the general objective. Korean curriculum was composed of such grades system as 3rd & 4th grades, 5th & 6th grades and content area as 'materials and energy', 'life and the earth' in content system. And the USA composed in the such grade system as K, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Also the elements to be learned is suggested in the strand. And in the area of the earth and space in the Korean Curriculum, there are elements emphasized in the content area, cognitive area, context category and practical activities learning objective category. But the USA covered most of those elements evenly. Korean curriculum focused on learning of certain elements in certain grades, but the USA curriculum is to learn several elements evenly in every grade. It will be future topics of research to investigate the effect of curriculum with different emphasis of improving students' scientific knowledge and learning through further study.

Librarians' Experiences of Facilitating Makerspace in Public Libraries (공공도서관 메이커스페이스 담당자의 운영 경험 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate the experiences of librarians/staff members who are responsible for facilitating makerspaces in public libraries, including their works and core competencies, their needs and experiences of training, and future plans in makerspaces. To do that, we carried out semi-structured interviews with 11 librarians/staff members and 1 library director from 7 public library makerspaces. Findings show that the participants received financial supports from the government agencies or/and relied on their library budget to run makerspaces. They identified competencies such as technology literacy, domain knowledge, teaching/programming, willingness to learn and curiosity, communication skills, leadership, and design-thinking. They have future plans for expanding spaces, purchasing equipments, program development, and so on. We believe findings could be useful for those who currently manage or plan to implement a public library makerspace by understanding practical issues and training needs in makerspaces.

  • 산업계 전반에 걸친 오랜 정보시스템 운용의 결과로 대용량의 데이타들이 축적되고 있다. 이러한 데이타로부터 유용한 지식을 추출하기 위해 여러 가지 데이타 마이닝 기법들이 연구되어왔다. 특히 데이타 웨어하우스의 등장은 이러한 데이타 마이닝에 있어 필요한 데이타 제공 환경을 제공해 주고 있다. 그러나 전문가의 적절한 판단과 해석을 거치지 않은 데이타 마이닝의 결과는 당연한 사실이거나, 사실과 다른 가짜이거나 또는 관련성이 없는(trivial, spurious and irrelevant) 내용만 무수히 쏟아낼 수 있다. 그러므로 데이타 마이닝의 결과가 비록 통계적 유의성을 가진다 하더라고 그 정당성과 유용성에 대한 검증과정과 방법론의 정립이 필요하다. 데이타 마이닝의 가장 어려운 점은 귀납적 오류를 없애기 위해 사람이 직접 그 결과를 해석하고 판단하며 아울러 새로운 탐색 방향을 제시해야 한다는 것이다. 본 논문의 목적은 이러한 데이타 마이닝에서 추출된 결과를 검증하고 아울러 새로운 지식 탐색 방향을 제시하는 방법론을 정립하는데 있다. 본 논문에서는 데이타 마이닝 기법 중 연관규칙탐사로 얻어진 결과를 설명가능성 여부의 판단을 통해 검증하는 기법을 제안하며, 이를 통해 얻어진 검증된 지식을 토대로 일반화를 통한 새로운 가설을 생성하여 데이타 웨어하우스로부터 연관규칙을 검증하는 일련의 아키텍쳐(architecture)를 제시하고자 한다. 먼저 데이타 마이닝 결과에 대한 설명의 필요성을 제시하고, 데이타 웨어하우스와 데이타 마이닝 기법들에 대한 간략한 설명과 연관규칙탐사에 대한 정의 및 방법을 보이고, 대상 영역에 대한 데이타 웨어하우스의 스키마를 보였다. 다음으로 도메인 지식(domain knowledge)과 연관규칙탐사를 통해 얻어진 결과를 표현하기 위한 지식표현 방법으로 Relational predicate Logic을 제안하였다. 연관규칙탐사로 얻어진 결과를 설명하기 위한 방법으로는 연관규칙탐사로 얻어진 연관규칙에 대해 Relational Predicate Logic으로 표현된 도메인 지식으로서 설명됨을 보이게 한다. 또한 이러한 설명(explanation)을 토대로 검증된 지식을 일반화하여 새로운 가설을 연역적으로 생성하고 이를 연관규칙탐사론 통해 검증한 후 새로운 지식을 얻는 반복적인 Explanation-based Data Mining Architecture를 제시하였다. 본 연구의 의의로는 데이타 마이닝을 통한 귀납적 지식생성에 있어 귀납적 오류의 발생을 고메인 지식을 통해 설명가능 함을 보임으로 검증하고 아울러 이러한 설명을 통해 연역적으로 새로운 가설지식을 생성시켜 이를 가설검증방식으로 검증함으로써 귀납적 접근과 연역적 접근의 통합 데이타 마이닝 접근을 제시하였다는데 있다.

Analysis of Interaction between the Science Gifted Education Teachers in the In-service Teachers Training Program (동료간 상호작용이 강조된 연수 프로그램에서 과학영재 담당교사의 상호작용 분석)

  • In this study, we developed an efficient in-service teachers training program, which could help the professional development of science gifted teachers. The characteristic feature of this in-service training program was to put great emphasis on interaction between fellow teachers. With this program, teachers could share their experiences and informations about gifted education. The program consisted of 4 interaction modules: 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning', 'the module of interaction in the small group', 'the module of interaction at the plan of application', 'the module of interaction at the practical exercise'. In this study, we analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. We analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. Each teachers got 17.2 correction opinions from peer teachers. They accepted 79.2% opinions among them and refused the other opinions (20.8% opinions). In the analysis of 'program process', the interactions for the improvement about 'the acquirements of knowledge and function' step were 41.9% and the interactions for the improvement about 'plan and exploration' step were 30.5%. In the analysis of 'program domain', the interactions about 'method of teaching and learning' were 41.9%. The interactions about 'program step' were 28.6% and the interactions about 'learning contentsh were 24.8%. With these results, we discussed the features of interaction between science gifted education teachers and proposed the improvement of in-service training program for elementary science gifted teachers.

Intellectual Structure and Infrastructure of Informetrics: Domain Analysis from 2001 to 2010 (계량정보학의 지적구조 분석 연구: 2001-2010년 연구영역 분석)

  • Since the 1990s, informetrics has grown in popularity among information scientists. Today it is a general discipline that comprises all kinds of metrics, including bibliometrics and scientometrics. To illustrate the dynamic progress of this field, this study aims to identify the structure and infrastructure of the informetrics literature using statistical and profiling methods. Informetrics literature was obtained from the Web of Knowledge for the years 2001-2010. The selected articles contain least one of these keywords: informetrics', bibliometrics', scientometrics', webometrics', and citation analysis.' Noteworthy publication patterns of major countries were identified by a statistical method. Intellectual structure analysis shows major research areas, authors, and journals.

Context-based Social Network Configuration Method between Users (컨텍스트 기반 사용자 간 소셜 네트워크 구성 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose the method configuring social networks among users based on users' context and profile. Recently, many researchers are concerned about social networks related with collaborative systems. In case of the existing researches, however, it is difficult to configure social networks dynamically because they are based on static data types, such as log and profile of users. The proposed method uses not only user profiles but also context reflecting users' behavior dynamically. It computes the similarity among users' behavior contexts using hierarchical structure of context domain knowledge model. And it calculates relationships between contexts by given weight factors of category of context model. In order to verify usefulness of the method, we conduct an experiment on configuring social network according to change of user context. We expect that it makes dynamic analysis of relationship of users possible.

Development of ICT Teaching-Learning materials for Motorcycle Safety Education (이륜차 안전교육을 위한 ICT 교수-학습 자료 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop ICT(Information and Communication Technology) teaching-learning materials for motorcycle safety education. Physical subjects which are relevant with motorcycle dynamics were introduced to increase the safety awareness through integrated learning such as the combination of technology and science. The results of this study were as follows : (1) Utilizing the physics basic theories which are relevant to motorcycle dynamics, the lesson plan of motorcycle ICT teaching-learning materials, which were included to plan and instruction action plan, was developed. (2) Flash animation or movie was developed to apply physics knowledge to technology in driving motorcycle. This is able to improve the attitude of driving motorcycle of students. (3) Through the contents of appendix of motorcycle safety driving section in this web-site developed here, junior and senior high school students would be able to strengthen their cognitive domain of motorcycle by themselves. (4) Using the web-site of this study, both teachers and students would be able to freely interact through an online bulletin board.

  • Recently, according to the rapid development of web technology, a lot of applications based on web techniques have been developed. However, most of web applications have been developed relying on knowledge and experiences of the developer without systematic process. Web Applications are seldom developed in isolation. For web application designers, the simple and semantically rich methodology is needed to improve design and development process. In this paper, we propose a new development process methodology to improve low level technology based application development process which do not provide high level abstraction. We also suggest a new methodology to construct applications based on web. We describe a systematic web application development process by using Navigation Diagram as a analysis, design modeling method to develop web application with productivity and Quality. We apply the new development process to the EPBS(Electronic Problem Bank System) as examples. Web application development process proposed in this thesis can be maintained through reverse development, because it can be defined as high level abstraction for modeling. It is very easy to be understood as a process based on models. Also, analysis and design models can be reused as useful component whenever similar web application is developed.

  • Ontology alignment is the way to share and reuse of ontology knowledge. Because of the ambiguity of concept, most ontology alignment systems combine a set of various measures and complete enumeration to provide the satisfactory result. However, calculating process becomes more complex and required time increases exponentially since the number of concept increases, more errors can appear at the same time. Lately the focus is on meta-matching using the heuristic algorithm. Existing meta-matching system tune extra parameter and it causes complex calculating, as a consequence, the results in the various data of specific domain are not good performed. In this paper, we propose a high performance algorithm by using DCS that can solve ontology alignment through simple process. It provides an efficient search strategy according to distribution of Levy Flight. In order to evaluate the approach, benchmark data from the OAEI 2012 is employed. Through the comparison of the quality of the alignments which uses DCS with state of the art ontology matching systems.
