This paper presents a rule extraction algorithm RE to acquire explicit rules from trained neural networks. The validity of extracted rules has been confirmed using 6 different data sets. Based on experimental results, we conclude that extracted rules from RE predict more accurately and robustly than neural networks themselves and rules obtained from an inductive learning algorithm do. Rule extraction algorithm for neural networks are important for incorporating knowledge obtained from trained networks into knowledge based systems. In lieu of this, the proposed RE algorithm contributes to the trend toward developing hybrid and versatile knowledge-based system including expert systems and knowledge-based decision su, pp.rt systems.
Due to the increasing use of very large databases, mining useful information and implicit knowledge from databases is evolving. However, most conventional data mining algorithms identify the relationship among features using binary values (TRUE/FALSE or 0/1) and find simple If-THEN rules at a single concept level. Therefore, implicit knowledge and causal relationships among features are commonly seen in real-world database and applications. In this paper, we thus introduce the mechanism of mining fuzzy association rules and constructing causal knowledge base form database. Acausal knowledge base construction algorithm based on Fuzzy Cognitive Map(FCM) and Srikant and Agrawal's association rule extraction method were proposed for extracting implicit causal knowledge from database. Fuzzy association rules are well suited for the thinking of human subjects and will help to increase the flexibility for supporting users in making decisions or designing the fuzzy systems. It integrates fuzzy set concept and causal knowledge-based data mining technologies to achieve this purpose. The proposed mechanism consists of three phases: First, adaptation of the fuzzy membership function to the database. Second, extraction of the fuzzy association rules using fuzzy input values. Third, building the causal knowledge base. A credit example is presented to illustrate a detailed process for finding the fuzzy association rules from a specified database, demonstration the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
In this research, we propose an automatic knowledge acquisition and composite knowledge expression mechanism based on machine learning and relational database. Most of traditional approaches to develop a knowledge base and inference engine of expert systems were based on IF-THEN rules, AND-OR graph, Semantic networks, and Frame separately. However, there are some limitations such as automatic knowledge acquisition, complicate knowledge expression, expansibility of knowledge base, speed of inference, and hierarchies among rules. To overcome these limitations, many of researchers tried to develop an automatic knowledge acquisition, composite knowledge expression, and fast inference method. As a result, the adaptability of the expert systems was improved rapidly. Nonetheless, they didn't suggest a hybrid and generalized solution to support the entire process of development of expert systems. Our proposed mechanism has five advantages empirically. First, it could extract the specific domain knowledge from incomplete database based on machine learning algorithm. Second, this mechanism could reduce the number of rules efficiently according to the rule extraction mechanism used in machine learning. Third, our proposed mechanism could expand the knowledge base unlimitedly by using relational database. Fourth, the backward inference engine developed in this study, could manipulate the knowledge base stored in relational database rapidly. Therefore, the speed of inference is faster than traditional text -oriented inference mechanism. Fifth, our composite knowledge expression mechanism could reflect the traditional knowledge expression method such as IF-THEN rules, AND-OR graph, and Relationship matrix simultaneously. To validate the inference ability of our system, a real data set was adopted from a clinical diagnosis classifying the dermatology disease.
This paper introduces efficient rule-based semantic search techniques to ontology-based knowledge commerce services. Primarily, the search techniques presented in this paper define rules of reasoning that are required for users to search using the concept of ontology, multiple characteristics, relations among concepts and data type. In addition, based on the defined rules, the rule-based reasoning techniques search ontology for knowledge commerce services. This paper explains the conversion rules of query which convert user's query language into semantic search words, and transitivity rules which enable users to search related tags, knowledge products and users. Rule-based sematic search techniques are also presented; these techniques comprise knowledge search modules that search ontology using validity examination of queries, query conversion modules for standardization and expansion of search words and rule-based reasoning. The techniques described in this paper can be applied to sematic knowledge search systems using tags, since transitivity reasoning, which uses tags, knowledge products, and relations among people, is possible. In addition, as related users can be searched using related tags, the techniques can also be employed to establish collaboration models or semantic communities.
It is not easy to find a good production schedule which can be used in practice. Therefore, production scheduling simulation with a simple dispatching rule or a set of dispatching rules is used. However, a simple dispatching rule may not create a robust schedule, for the same rule is blindly applied to all internal production processes. The presumption is that there might be a specific combination of appropriate rules that can improve the efficiency of a total production system for a certain type of orders. In order to acquire a better set of dispatching rules, simulation is used to examine the performance of various combinations of dispatching rule sets. There are innumerable combination of rule sets. Hence it takes too much computer simulation time to find a robust set of dispatching rule for a specific production system. Therefore, we propose a concept of the knowledge based simulation to circumvent the problem. The knowledge based simulation consists of knowledge bases, an inference engine and a simulator. The knowledge base is made of rule sets that is extracted from both simulation and human intuition obtained by the simulation studies. For a certain type of orders, the proposed system provides several sets of dispatching rules that are expected to generate better results. Then the scheduler tries to find the best by simulating all proposed set of rules with the simulator. The knowledge-based simulator armed with the acquired knowledge has produced improved solutions in terms of time and scheduling performance.
This paper presents a hybrid data mining mechanism to extract expert knowledge from historical data and extend expert systems' reasoning capabilities by using fuzzy neural network (FNN)-based learning & rule extraction algorithm. Our hybrid data mining mechanism is based on association rule extraction mechanism, FNN learning and fuzzy rule extraction algorithm. Most of traditional data mining mechanisms are depended ()n association rule extraction algorithm. However, the basic association rule-based data mining systems has not the learning ability. Therefore, there is a problem to extend the knowledge base adaptively. In addition, sequential patterns of association rules can`t represent the complicate fuzzy logic in real-world. To resolve these problems, we suggest the hybrid data mining mechanism based on association rule-based data mining, FNN learning and fuzzy rule extraction algorithm. Our hybrid data mining mechanism is consisted of four phases. First, we use general association rule mining mechanism to develop an initial rule base. Then, in the second phase, we adopt the FNN learning algorithm to extract the hidden relationships or patterns embedded in the historical data. Third, after the learning of FNN, the fuzzy rule extraction algorithm will be used to extract the implicit knowledge from the FNN. Fourth, we will combine the association rules (initial rule base) and fuzzy rules. Implementation results show that the hybrid data mining mechanism can reflect both association rule-based knowledge extraction and FNN-based knowledge extension.
This paper deals with an automated computer-aided process planning system by which designer can determine operation sequences even if they have little experience in process planning of wheel bolt products by a multi-stage former. The approach to the system is based on knowledge-based rules and a process knowledge base consisting of design rules is built. Knowledge for the system is formulated from plasticity theories, empirical results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. Programs for the system have been written in AutoLISP for the AutoCAD using a personal computer and are composed of two main modules. An attempt is made to link programs incorporationg a number of expert design rules to form a useful package. Results obtained using the modules enable the designer and manufacturer of wheel bolt product to be more efficient in this field.
In this research, we suggest a hybrid intelligent Web recommendation systems based on Web data mining and case-based reasoning (CBR). One of the important research topics in the field of Internet business is blending artificial intelligence (AI) techniques with knowledge discovering in database (KDD) or data mining (DM). Data mining is used as an efficient mechanism in reasoning for association knowledge between goods and customers' preference. In the field of data mining, the features, called attributes, are often selected primary for mining the association knowledge between related products. Therefore, most of researches, in the arena of Web data mining, used association rules extraction mechanism. However, association rules extraction mechanism has a potential limitation in flexibility of reasoning. If there are some goods, which were not retrieved by association rules-based reasoning, we can't present more information to customer. To overcome this limitation case, we combined CBR with Web data mining. CBR is one of the AI techniques and used in problems for which it is difficult to solve with logical (association) rules. A Web-log data gathered in real-world Web shopping mall was given to illustrate the quality of the proposed hybrid recommendation mechanism. This Web shopping mall deals with remote-controlled plastic models such as remote-controlled car, yacht, airplane, and helicopter. The experimental results showed that our hybrid recommendation mechanism could reflect both association knowledge and implicit human knowledge extracted from cases in Web databases.
A knowledge-based system with fuzzy production rules is a representation of static knowledge of an expert. On the other hand, a real system such as the stock market is dynamic in nature. Therefore we need a strategy to reflect the dynamic nature of real system when we make inferences with a knowledge-based system. This paper proposes a strategy of dynamic inferencing for a knowledge-based system with fuzzy production rules. The strategy suggested in this paper applies weights of attributes of conditions of a rule in the knowledge-base. A degree of match(DM) between actual input information and a condition of a rule is represented by a value [0,1]. Weights of relative importance of attributes in a rule are obtained by AHP(Analytic Hierarcy Process) method. Then these weights are applied as exponents for the DM, and the DMs in a rule are combined, with MIN operator, into a single DM for the rule. In this way, overall DM for a rule changes depending on the importance of attributes of the rule. As a result, the dynamic nature of a real system can be incorporated in an inference with fuzzy production rules.
In this paper is studied a method of fuzzy logic control based on possibly inconsistent if-then rules representing uncertain knowledge or imprecise data. In most cases of practical applications adopting fuzzy if-then rule bases, inconsistent rules have been considered as ill-defined rules and, thus, not allowed to be in the same rule base. Note, however, that, in representing uncertain knowledge by using fuzzy if-then rules, the knowledge sometimes can not be represented in literally consistent if-then rules. In this regard, when it is hard to obtain consistent rule base, we propose the weighted rule base fuzzy logic control depending on output performance using neural network and we will derive the weight update algorithm. Computer simulations show the proposed method has good performance to deal with the inconsistent rule base fuzzy logic control. And we discuss the real application problems.
