  • The abrasion behavior of three kinds of warp knitted fabrics, which are normally used for upper sole of footwear, was evaluated. We measured the changes of mechanical and structural properties of each sample as abrasion cycle increased. Each sample showed similar trends in compression and surface properties but there were significant differences in abrasion rate among the samples. The mechanical properties showed remarkable differences with directions. The frictional coefficient (MIU) of fabric surface increased at the beginning of abrasion and decreased as abrasion cycles increased. The weight and thickness of the fabric linearly decreased with abrasion cycles. The surface roughness (SMD) and the compressional resilience (RC) decreased as abrasion cycles increased while compressional energy (WC) increased.

  • This research studied how to develop tight upper sportswear from 3D scan data considering fabric stretch property. Subjects were five Korean men of average figure in their 20's. Scanning was done for ten postures via vitus smart/pro(Techmath LTD). Analyzing from 3D scan data, more than 70% of the upper body surface showed surface change rate under 20%. It was shoulder and under arm side part that showed most noticeable body surface change when moving. A parametric model with convex surface was generated and flattened onto the plane, resulting 2D pattern. The error rate occurring in the process of 3D to 2D conversion was 0.2% for outline and 0.13% for area, respectively. Thirteen kinds of stretchable fabrics in the market were collected for this study. Stretch property was in the range of 16.0~58.2% for wale direction; 23.1~78.4% for course. Based on wear trial test, four fabrics were chosen for making the 1st experimental garment and finally one fabric was chosen for the 2nd one, which was developed applying 4 kinds of crosswise reduction rate on 2D pattern: 0, 5, 10, and 15%. Through wear trial test and garment pressure measurement, experimental garment applied with 10% pattern reduction rate was evaluated as most comfortable and considerable.

  • The purpose of this study is to comparison on the sizing system in silver apparel brands with the KS standards. For the comparison research, 3 women's wear brands(suit style, knitted suit style, casual style) which were different apparel style on occasion in madame-zone of department stores were selected. The subject of investigation of sizing system of these brands were the label. The results of the sizing system of silver apparel brands as compared with the KS standards were as follows: 1) For the upper wear of suit style, it is larger than KS standards that size of height is $5{\sim}15$ cm. 2) For the lower wear of suit style, suitability of size of hip circumference is lower than KS standards. 3) For the casual style, it is larger than KS standards that size of height is $10{\sim}20$ cm.

  • This study developed smart vests with heat and massage functions that changed patterns, designs, materials, etc., and evaluated their functions and satisfaction. A knitted fabric with good elasticity and a heating lining were used, and in consideration of this, the final vest pattern fitted to the upper body was completed. A heat pad was attached to the back, and 6 vibration motors were attached to the trapezius muscle. The controller was placed on the left chest for easy operation, and the battery was stored in an inner pocket under the controller. The heating effect of the smart vest, the location of the devices, and the ease of operation were excellent. When the massage function was operated, the thermal comfort was increased compared to when the massage function was not operated, and the high thermal comfort was perceived by the operation of heat and heat+massage function. Due to the battery, the weight, irritating contact of devices and wearing sensation decreased, but there was no reduction in wearing sensation due to heat and vibration devices. The greater the satisfaction with the massage function, thermal comfort, fit, appearance and weight, the greater the product satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a compression inner layer (CIL) that can be attached to dress shirts for men who have gynecomastia (male breast enlargement). For this, we developed shirts with CIL prototypes based on the functional, expressive, and aesthetic (FEA) consumer needs model. The user-centered design principle guided the design process. Based on size measurements, in-depth interviews, and an online survey, the design requirements for dress shirts with a CIL were determined, and the prototype was developed. The dress shirts were constructed of polyester and spandex mixed materials, while the CIL was made of thin mesh fabric knitted from 80% polyester and 20% spandex. A CIL prototype was developed with a front zipper fastening to hold the upper body tight and compress the breast area. The CIL was attached by connecting a strap with snap buttons to loops sewn into the shoulder line of the dress shirt. In the trial and sensory test, the prototype helped breast size decrease while meeting target consumer needs. The outcomes of this study provide necessary insights to develop garments for gynecomastia patients.
