  • The MTF(modulation transfer function) is one of parameters to evaluate the performance of imaging systems. Also, it can be used to restore information that is lost by a harsh space environment (radioactivity, extreme cold/heat condition and electromagnetic field etc.), atmospheric effects and falloff of system performance etc. This paper evaluated the MTF values of images taken by DubaiSat-1 satellite which was launched in 2009 by EIAST(Emirates Institute for Advanced Science and Technology) and Satrec Initiative. Generally, the MTF was assessed using various methods such as a point source method and a knife-edge method. This paper used the slanted-edge method. The slantededge method is the ISO 12233 standard for the MTF measurement of electronic still-picture cameras. The method is adapted to estimate the MTF values of line-scanning telescopes. After assessing the MTF, we performed the MTF compensation by generating a MTF convolution kernel based on the PSF(point spread function) with image denoising to enhance the image quality.

  • Gas wiping process of continuously hot-dip galvanized coating on steel strip has noise and coating problems. To improve the qualify of product, characteristics of air flow on the steel surface must be investigated. In this paper, fluid dynamic model of the gas flow is setup and solved numerically using STAR-CD. The effects of edge baffle, distance between steel plane edge and baffle, inlet pressure, and gap between air knife and strip steel surface are investigated, and it is concluded that edge baffle can reduce over-coating and edge built-up.

  • The problem of edge overcoating developed near the edge of the steel strip is studied quantitatively in the gas wiping process of continuous hot-dip galvanizing. It has been assumed that the edge overcoating occurs due to the reduced impact pressure of wiping gas on the strip edge and it is one of detrimental problems to the quality of coating products. In order to analyse the edge overcoating problem numerically, three-dimensional unsteady flows due to the gas wiping are calculated by using a commercial code, STAR-CD. Standard $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ model is used as a turbulence model. The 1D code for calculation of coating thickness is constructed by using continuity and Navier-Stokes equations. The calculation results have shown good agreement with measurements of edge overcoating thickness, taken from galvanizing line trials. Therefore it is conformed that the major cause of edge overcoating is the reduced impact pressure of wiping gas on the strip surface.

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to compare the precision of optical impression (Trios, 3Shape) versus that of conventional impression (Imprint IV, 3M-ESPE) with three different margins (shoulder, chamfer, and knife-edge) on Frasaco teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The sample comprised of 60 zirconia half-crowns, divided into six groups according to the type of impression and margin. Scanning electron microscopy enabled us to analyze the gap between the zirconia crowns and the Frasaco teeth, using ImageJ software, based on eight reproducible and standardized measuring points. RESULTS. No statistically significant difference was found between conventional impressions and optical impressions, except for two of the eight points. A statistically significant difference was observed between the three margin types; the chamfer and knife-edge finishing lines appeared to offer better adaptation results than the shoulder margin. CONCLUSION. Zirconia crowns created from optical impression and those created from conventional impression present similar adaptation. While offering identical results, the former have many advantages. In view of our findings, we believe the chamfer margin should be favored.

  • Slab formwork consists of sheathing, stringer, hanger and shore. There are several types of adjustable individual shores. In constructions site, pipe supports are usually used as shores. The strength of a pipe support is decreasing as it is frequently being used at the construction site. In this study, 2857 pipe supports were bought to fine out the strength change of used pipe support and unused pipe supports according to aging. Among these pipe supports, 2337 pipe supports were lent to the construction companies free of charge. Compressive strength was measured by knife edge test and plate test at each 3 month. Test results show that the strength of unused pipe supports almost equaled to the strength of new pipe supports until 191 days, but the strength of used pipe supports at 191 days was lower than the strength of new pipe supports. So, the strength of used pipe supports at 191 days was not satisfied the specification of KS F 8001. According to these results, it shows that attention has to be paid to formwork design using used pipe supports. Therefore, the paresent study results will be able to provide a firm base to design slab formwork and test the performance of used temporary structure and prevent formwork collapses.

  • In order to estimate space charging process in the corona charging apparatus which has been used to make polymer electret cell, the electrical properties of 30[${\mu}m$] thick polypropylene film were obtained from TSC measurement after corona charging between copper knife electrode and aluminum cylinder electrode with the voltage of -8, -7, -6, -5 (kV). And, the electrostatic contour and the electric field vector were calculated using Finite Element Method with the electrical properties obtained from TSC spectra analysis. The edge effect around the edge of knife electrode affects electrostatic contour on the surface of specimen and the electric field concentration inside the polymer. As a result the uneven charging state in the electret cell due to the mistake of design was calculated, and the optimal design of corona charging apparatus opprobriate to various specimen was come to be practicable.

  • A simple and effective guidance and control scheme that enables autonomous three-dimensional path-following for a fixed wing aircraft is presented. The method utilizes the nonlinear path-following guidance law for the outer loop that creates steering acceleration command based on the desired flight path and the current position and velocity of the vehicle. The scheme considers the gravity in the guidance level, where it is subtracted from the acceleration command to form the specific force acceleration command which the aircraft is better suited to follow than the total acceleration command in the inner-loop. A roll attitude control scheme is also presented that enables inverted flight or sideslip maneuvers such as slow roll and knife-edge. A series of aerobatic maneuvers are demonstrated through simulations to show the potential of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper we applied a ray tracing method to estimate the scattering characteristics from large scale random rough surfaces. For the electromagnetic field evaluation, we have used the diffracted coefficient of the knife edge diffraction for the diffracted rays and Fresnel's reflection coefficients in connection with reflected rays. In addition, we examine to search for the traced rays using the imaging method which can be obtained all rays to arrived at receivers accurately and the diffracted field from rough surfaces is considered. Numerical examples have been carried out for the scattering characteristics of an ocean wave-like rough surface and delay spread characteristics of a building-like surface. In the present work we have demonstrated that the ray tracing method is effective to numerical analysis of a rough surface scattering.

  • This paper describes the automation of an object generator and an image analyser in a knife scan OTF equipment to enhance the accuracy of OTF measurement. Pinholes and slits of various size in the object generator are used as an objects. A fishtail edge is mounted to the image analyzer and is translated to the direction of 45 degree angle with the horizontal to measure MTF simultaneously in the radial and tangential azimuths. The stepping motor control unit and software for the image analyzer are modified and the accuracy of this equipment is evaluated by measuring the OTF of SIRA group 50 mm standard lens.
