A New kinetic scheme for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations is developed. While the conventional approach, such as KFVS scheme, employs the splitting algorithm and computes the numerical flux on the basis of the collisionless equation, the present approach employs the splitting algorithm in the evaluation of the numerical flux, where the collision effect is explicitly taken into account. However, the initial condition employed in the computation is slightly different from the conventional Chapman-Enskog NS distribution function. The present study also reveals the background of the existing kinetic schemes. such as the KFVS scheme and Gas-Kinetic BGK scheme.
This paper investigates the characteristics of turbulence schemes. Turbulence closures are fundamental for modeling the atmospheric diffusion, transport and dispersion in the boundary layer. In particular, in non-homogeneous conditions, a proper description of turbulent transport in planetary boundary layer is fundamental aspect. This study is based on the Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS) and combines four different turbulence schemes to assess if the different schemes have a impact on simulation results of vertical profiles. Two of these schemes are Isotropc Deformation scheme (I.Def) and Anisotropic deformation scheme (A.Def) that are simple local scheme based on Smagorinsky scheme. The other two are Mellor-Yamada scheme (MY2.5) and Deardorff TKE scheme (D.TKE) that are more complex non-local schemes that include a prognostic equation for turbulence kinetic energy. The simulated potential temperature, wind speed and mixing ratio are compared against radiosonde observations from the study region. MY2.5 shows consistently reasonable vertical profile and closet to observation. D.TKE shows good results under relatively strong synoptic condition especially, mixing ratio simulation. Validation results show that all schemes consistently underestimated wind speed and mixing ratio but, potential temperature was somewhat overestimated.
The most objective way to overcome the limitation of numerical weather prediction model is to represent the uncertainty of prediction by introducing probabilistic forecast. The uncertainty of the numerical weather prediction system developed due to the parameterization of unresolved scale motions and the energy losses from the sub-scale physical processes. In this study, we focused on the growth of model errors. We performed ensemble forecast to represent model uncertainty. By employing the multi-physics scheme (PHYS) and the stochastic kinetic energy backscatter scheme (SKEBS) in simulating typhoon Rusa (2002), we assessed the performance level of the two schemes. The both schemes produced better results than the control run did in the ensemble mean forecast of the track. The results using PHYS improved by 28% and those based on SKEBS did by 7%. Both of the ensemble mean errors of the both schemes increased rapidly at the forecast time 84 hrs. The both ensemble spreads increased gradually during integration. The results based on SKEBS represented model errors very well during the forecast time of 96 hrs. After the period, it produced an under-dispersive pattern. The simulation based on PHYS overestimated the ensemble mean error during integration and represented the real situation well at the forecast time of 120 hrs. The displacement speed of the typhoon based on PHYS was closest to the best track, especially after landfall. In the sensitivity tests of the model uncertainty of SKEBS, ensemble mean forecast was sensitive to the physics parameterization. By adjusting the forcing parameter of SKEBS, the default experiment improved in the ensemble spread, ensemble mean errors, and moving speed.

This study investigates effects of three different parameterizations of vertical mixing scheme on upper ocean simulation of the East Sea, focusing on the seasonal variations of the sea surface temperature(SST) and the mixed layer depth(MLD) using an ocean general circulation model(GFDL MOM1.1). The considered vertical mixing schemes are the Laplacian scheme(L scheme) that use a constant eddy coefficient, the Mellor-Yamada scheme(MY scheme), and a new scheme(Noh scheme). The Noh scheme, a second-order turbulence closure, was developed considering recent observational evidences such as the enhancement of turbulent kinetic energy near the sea surface. During summer L scheme underestimates the SST, while MY scheme overestimates the SST, compared to climatological SST. Noh scheme produces the SST in better agreement with climatological one. During winter all schemes overestimate the SST up to $4^{\circ}C$ compared to climatological SST. Vertical profiles of the basin-mean temperature show that L scheme produces higher temperature below the thermocline than those of other schemes. The winter MLD simulated from L scheme is rather large compared to that from other schemes, but the differences in MLD during summer are not significant.
The progressive collapse phenomenon is generally regarded as dynamic. Due to the impracticality of nonlinear dynamic computations for practitioners, an interest arises for the development of equivalent static pushover procedures. The present paper proposes a methodology to identify such a procedure for sudden column removals, using energetic evaluations to determine the pushover loads to apply. In a dynamic context, equality between the cumulated external and internal works indicates a vanishing kinetic energy. If such a state is reached, the structure is sometimes assumed able to withstand the column removal. Approximations of these works can be estimated using a static computation, leading to an estimate of the displacements at the zero kinetic energy configuration. In comparison with other available procedures based on such criteria, the present contribution identifies loading patterns to associate with the zero-kinetic energy criterion to avoid a single-degree-of-freedom idealisation. A parametric study over a family of regular steel structures of varying sizes uses non-linear dynamic computations to assess the proposed pushover loading pattern for the cases of central and lateral ground floor column failure. The identified quasi-static loading schemes are shown to allow detecting nearly all dynamically detected plastic hinges, so that the various beams are provided with sufficient resistance during the design process. A proper accuracy is obtained for the plastic rotations of the most plastified hinges almost independently of the design parameters (loads, geometry, robustness), indicating that the methodology could be extended to provide estimates of the required ductility for the beams, columns, and beam-column connections.

Theoretical foundations of atom dynamics in laser fields are reviewed in relation with applications to laser spectroscopy, control of atomic motion, atom traps and frequency standards. Quasiclassical kinetic equations are applied to multilevel atomic schemes interacting with counter-propagating laser waves to describe the properties of atomic populations and coherence and the time evolution of atomic distribution function. Basic types of the dipole radiation forces on atoms are discussed for the realistic cases of multilevel dipole interaction schemes such as 3(g)+5(e), 3(g)+3(e), 5(g)+3(e), 5(g)+7(e), 3(g)+3(e)+5(e) and 1(g)+3(g)+3(e)+5(e).

This paper proposes active power control and frequency support control schemes of wind turbine generation system by using modified Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator(PMSG). Most wind turbine generation system is completely decoupled from the power system and power output control with pitch control. According to the frequency deviation, however, MPPT control can not contribute to the frequency change of the power system due to its active power output control. For solving this, the de-loaded(DL) control scheme is constructed for the frequency support control, which is based on applying the active power output control in the rotor speed control of PMSG. The rotor speed by used in the proposed DL control scheme is increased more than the optimal rotor speed of MPPT, and then this speed improvement increases the saved kinetic energy(KE). In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, the case studies have been performed using the PSCAD/EMTDC. The results show that the proposed active power output control scheme(DL control and KE discharge control) works properly and the frequency response ability of the power system can be also improved with the frequency support of wind farm.
In this paper, an optimal motion control scheme is proposed for robot manipulators. A simple explicit solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation is presented. The optimization of motion control is based on the mininization of the torque term affecting the kinetic energy and the augmented error which has the first-order stable dynamics for the position and velocity tracking error. In the presence of parametric uncertainty, an adaptive control scheme using the optimal principle is proposed. The global stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed by the Lyapunov stability approach, The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed control schemes are shown by simulation results.
Algebraic Reynolds Stress (ARS) model is applied in order to analyze the turbulent flow of wall-attaching offset jet and to evaluate the model's predictability. The applied numerical schemes are upwind scheme and skew-upwind scheme. The numerical results show good prediction in first order calculations (i.e., reattachment length, mean velocity, pressure), while they show slight deviations in second order (i.e., kinetic energy and turbulence intensity). By comparison with the previous results using $k-{\varepsilon}$ model, ARS model predicts better than the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model, however, predicts slightly worse than the $k-{\varepsilon}$ model including the streamline curvature modification. Additionally this study can reconfirm that skew-upwind scheme has approximately 25% improved predictability than upwind scheme.
