Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of heel raising with kinesio taping (HRKT) on triceps surae muscle activity and balance in 20s adults. Design: Two groups pre-post randomized controlled design. Methods: The total of 40 subjects were randomly divided in the HRKT group (experimental group, n=21) and heel raising with sham kinesio taping (control group, n=19). Both groups receive heel raising with kinesio taping and sham kinesio taping for 20 minutes a day, five day per week, for four weeks. Measurement were performed before training and 4 weeks after training. The triceps surae muscle activity was measured using the EMG. A functional reach test (FRT) was used to evaluate balance ability. The independent t-test was conducted to compare exercise methods depending on the taping effect on each group. Results: The both group showed significant differences in muscle activity of lower extremity and functional reach test in the pre-post intervention comparison (p<0.05). The experimental group showed significantly more improvement in triceps surae muscle activity and functional reach test compared to the control group(p<0.05). Conclusion: We confirmed that the effects of heel-raising with kinesio taping group on triceps surae muscle activity and balance ability in 20s adults. The result suggest that heel raising with kinesio taping for 20s adults should be further studied and considered.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of kinesio taping of thigh muscle on isokinetic muscular function during closed kinetic chain exercise of lower extremity. Methods : Twenty healthy males were participated in this study. The isokinetic muscular function of closed kinetic chain were measured for peak torque, peak torque % body weight, average power, max rep tot work before and after application of kinesio taping on thigh muscles. Results : At $60^{\circ}/s$ peak force and peak force % body weight were significant increased in both extension(p<0.01) and flexion(p<0.001) after applying kinesio taping. At $180^{\circ}/s$ average power was significant increased in both extension and flexion after applying taping(p<0.001). At $240^{\circ}/s$ max rep tot work was significant increased in both extension(p<0.001) and flexion(p<0.05). Conclusion : This study suggests that application of kinesio taping on thigh muscle was more effective to improve isokinetic muscular function in closed kinetic chain exercise of lower extremity.
Purpose: This examined the effect of Kinesio taping pre-intervention on the pain, tenderness, proprioceptive sensation, and muscle strength associated with delayed onset muscle soreness. Methods: Thirty subjects were divided into a Kinesio taping application group of 15 subjects and a control non-taped group of 15 subjects, and the changes in individual variables were analyzed before taping and at 24, 48, and 72 hours after taping using two-way repeated ANOVA. Post-hoc t-tests were conducted in the cases with intergroup interactions, and the significance level ${\alpha}$ was set to ${\alpha}=0.01$. Results: The changes in pain during rest were significantly different only for the times, while the changes in pain during exercise were significantly different for the times, interactions between the times and groups, and intergroup changes (p<0.05). The changes in tenderness were significantly different for the times and for interactions between the times and groups (p<0.05). The changes in proprioceptive sensation were significantly different for the times, interactions between times and groups, and intergroup changes (p<0.05). The changes in muscle strength were significantly different only for the times (p<0.05). Conclusion: The application of Kinesio taping had positive effects on the pain, tenderness, and proprioceptive sensation of delayed onset muscle soreness. These results suggest that Kinesio taping can be a useful therapeutic factor in future studies and in clinical settings.

PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of ankle kinesio taping on the balanced control capabilities of normal adults, stroke patients, and musculoskeletal patients. METHODS: One thousand articles were searched, and 100 of them were selected as taping papers. Subsequently, 33 papers classified according to balance, muscle strength and pain were analyzed according to the effect size and age group. RESULTS: The effect of ankle kinesio taping on balance control was examined by dividing the effect size into three groups according to the type of disease. Studies with normal adults had a large effect size of 1.213, whereas the effect size of stroke studies was .377, which was small. Studies on musculoskeletal disorders had a large effect size of 1.429. All three groups did not include 0 in the 95% confidence interval, indicating a significant effect. CONCLUSION: The effect of kinesio taping on balance control was positive in all subjects, including normal adults, stroke patients, and musculoskeletal patients. On the other hand, in terms of the effect size of kinesio taping on balance control, musculoskeletal patients and normal adults had larger effect sizes than stroke patients.
Background : The purpose of this study is to identify the level of positive influence on the pain and the gripping power in patients with tennis elbow by comparing the TENS treatment method and the kinesio taping therapy with good accessibility among the kinesio taping therapy and electrical therapy. Methods : Targeting the patients diagnosed with tennis elbow, the subjects were categorized in groups of four, each of electrical therapy group and kinesio tape therapy group where the degree of pain reduction through VAS before and after the treatment of each group and the measurement of the degree of gripping power increase using the gripping power measurement tool as well as the pain reduction changes and gripping power increase before and after the treatment between the two groups were compared. Result : As a result, the electrical therapy group and the kinesio tape group were able to obtain the results of pain reduction and gripping power increase through VAS before and after the treatment, but for all pain reduction and gripping power increase, it had no statistically significant changes(p>.05). In addition, in the changes of pain reduction and changes of gripping power increase before and after the treatment, there were no statistically significant differences between the electrical therapy group and the kinesio tape group(p>.05). Conclusion : Based on the results so far, it is thought that the kinesio taping therapy can positively influence the pain reduction of patients with tennis elbow and increase of gripping power.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate the effects of kinesio taping and coordination exercise on the myofascial pain syndrome and shoulder function. Methods: The patients with myofascial pain syndrome were participated in this study and divided randomly 2 groups. Control group (n=22) was taken only physical therapy program. Experimental group (n=22) was taken physical therapy with Kinesio taping and coordination exercise. The Kinesio taping in experimental group applied on levator scapulae and supraspinatus. In the result following analysis, there was significance on VAS (F=13.071, p=.031), PRS (F=12.130, p=.014), PPT (F=7.378, p=.016), CSA (F=5.302, p=.026) between control group and experimental group. Conclusion: Then, Kinesio taping and coordination exercise has benefit on the VAS, PRS, PPT, CSA in patients with myofascial pain syndrome. So, it may suggest that Kinesio taping combined with coordination exercise will be helpful of the pain and shoulder function improvement the patients with myofascial pain syndrome.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of kinesio taping (KT) on vertical jumping performance. Methods: Young women (n=24) performed vertical jumping under three conditions: kinesio taping, placebo taping, and no taping. All tapes were applied to both quadriceps and the gastrocnemius of the subjects. Vertical jump height and power were measured using an OptoGait, and the non-parametric Friedman test was used to identify differences between conditions. Results: No significant differences in maximum jump height or peak jump power between were observed between taping conditions. Conclusion: The results showed that KT did not facilitate muscle performance by generating higher jumping power or yielding a better jumping performance. As the functional performance is related to muscle strength, this finding may be explained by the fact that KT has no effects on muscle strength.
