A numerical approach for performing kinematic design sensitivity analysis of vehicle suspension systems is presented. Compared with the conventional analytical methods, which require explicit derivation of sensitivity equations, the proposed numerical method can be applied to any type of suspension systems without obtaining sensitivity equations, once any kinematic analysis procedure is established. To obtain sensitivity equations, a numerical differentiation algorithm that uses the third order Lagrange polynomial is developed. The algorithm efficiently and accurately computes the sensitivity of various vehicle static design factors with respect to kinematic design variables. Through a suspension design problem, the validity and usefulness of the method is demonstrated.

Dimensional Synthesis, which is apart of kinematic synthesis, is to determine the dimensions of a mechanism of preconceived typer for a specified task and prescribed performance. In this paper, in an effort to provide designers with flexibility, a dimensional approximate synthesis method is presented for utilizing prescribed tolerance both the displacement and joint positions of a mechanism to be synthesized. For this, a constrained optimization problem is formulated with displacement parameters and joint positions as variables. The proposed method is applied to the synthesis of a 5-SS multi link suspension mechanism. The method discussed here, however, can be easily applied to any mechanism of which the kinematic constraint equations can be derived.

Objective: This study aimed to quantify one of the useful upper extremity movements to evaluate motor control abilities between the groups of people with mild and moderate arm impairments performing a door handling task. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-one healthy participants and twenty-one persons with chronic stroke (9 mild stroke and 12 moderate stroke) were recruited for this study. Stroke participants were divided into 2 groups based on Fugle-Meyer Assessment scores of 58-65 (mild arm) and 38-57 (moderate arm). All they performed door handling task including the pronation and supination phases 3 times. We measured some movement factors which were reaction time, movement time, hand of peak velocity, hand of movement units to perform door handling task using the three-dimensional motion analysis. Results: The majority of kinematic variables showed significant differences among study groups (p<0.05). The reaction time, total and phase of movement time, hand of peak velocity, the number of movement units discriminated between healthy participants and persons with moderate upper limb stroke (p<0.05). In addition, reaction time, total and phase of movement time, the number of movement units discriminated between those with moderate and mild upper limbs of stroke patients (p<0.05). Conclusions: Three-dimensional kinematic motion analysis in this study was a useful tool for assessing the upper extremity function in different subgroups of people with stroke during the door handling task. These kinematic variables may help clinicians understand the arm movements in door handling task and consist of discriminative therapeutic interventions for stroke patients on upper extremity rehabilitation.
In this study, the optimization process was carried out by using the central composite model of the response surface methodology in waste cooking oil based biodiesel production process. The acid value, reaction time, reaction temperature, methanol/oil molar ratio, and catalyst amount were selected process variables. The response was evaluated by measuring the FAME content (more than 96.5%) and kinematic viscosity (1.9~5.5 cSt). Through basic experiments, the range of optimum operation variables for the central composite model, such as reaction time, reaction temperature and methanol/oil molar ratio, were set as between 45 and 60 min, between 50 and $60^{\circ}C$, and between 8 and 12, respectively. The optimum operation variables, such as biodiesel production reaction time, temperature, and methanol/oil molar ratio deduced from the central composite model were 55.2 min, $57.5^{\circ}C$, and 10, respectively. With those conditions the results deduced from modeling were as followings: the predicted FAME content of the biodiesel and the kinematic viscosity of 97.5% and 2.40 cSt, respectively. We obtained experimental results with deduced operating variables mentioned above as followings: the FAME content and kinematic viscosity of 97.7% and 2.41 cSt, respectively. Error rates for the FAME content and kinematic viscosity were 0.23 and 0.29%, respectively. Therefore, the low error rate could be obtained when the central composite model among surface reaction methods was applied to the optimized production process of waste cooking oil raw material biodiesel.
The purpose of this study was to perform the kinematic analyses of the men's pole vault skills in IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011. Subjects were the 1st through 8th place finishers in the pole vault. The kinematic analyses were divided into four phases: two dimensional run up analysis, and three dimensional analyses for the remaining plant, swing up, and extension phases. Run-up variables consisted of run up distance, number of steps, average step length, the ratio of step length to his height, average velocity at the final 6~11 m, approach position. Three variables were analyzed during plant: pole angle, center of gravity (COG) velocity, and takeoff angle of COG. Swing up phase variables included: pole flexion angle, COG velocity (horizontal, vertical, resultant), COG trajectory and bar approach angle of COG. Compared to the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, the average vault height, run up velocity and approach position increased. However, horizontal velocity during the last two steps of the final approach decreased dramatically compared to speeds from 1990. These results reflect the change in both technique and improved physical fitness in pole vaulters. During extension, the peak height of COG averaged 0.3m higher then COG height when the pole was released. These specific results can help coaches and athletes modify training and improve performance.
In hemiplegic gait, walking speed is an important factor to evaluate treatment effect. The purpose of this study was to describe and compare kinematic variables during differant speed hemiplegic gaits. Six hemiplegic patients(47-69 years old) after stroke and age - matched six volunteers in good health(51-61 years old) were studied. The patients were sorted into two groups, depending on their self - speed of walking : fast speed group(3 patients, $0.74\pm0.14m/s$) and slow speed group(3 patients, $0.29\pm0.09m/s)$. The results were following. 1. In the hip joint, the fast group had lower mean value than normal but had similar pattern to normal. The slow group had continuous flexed pattern. 2. In the knee joint, the fast group had similar mean value and pattern to normal. The slow group had continuous flexed pattern. 3. In the ankle joint, the two group had dorsiflexed pattern. The fast group had similar pattern to normal. Thus, the fast group was similar gait pattern to normal.
This study was investigated the stability of the AK amputee gait through analysing the variability on kinematic variables between the sound leg and the prosthetic limb. The one male, AK amputee who could walk for himself with his prosthetic limb was participated in this study. Six cameras of the MCU 240 and the QTM(Qualisys Track Manager) software were used for data collecting in this study. The relative angle of both segments was the difference between the absolute angle of the distal segment and the absolute angle of the proximal segment. The coupling angles between the prosthetic limb and the sound leg were caculated on the thigh Flexion/Extension in relative to the shank Flexion/Extension and the shank Flexion/Extension n relative to the foot Flexion/Extension. In order to evaluate the variability of segment and joint angle, C.V. was used, and to evaluate the variability for coupling angles, the Relative motion calculated by vector coding method of the continuous methods was used. As stated, the gait pattern of the prosthetic limb was almost similar gait pattern of the sound leg, but the prosthetic limb showed that the gait pattern of the sound leg and the prosthetic limb were not stable against the sound leg.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of postural sway on the kinematic variables of the putter head during golf putting and to provide information to the importance of postural sway control in the putting stroke for novice golfers. Method: The center of pressure (CoP) and Kinematics variables of the putter head were calculated during 2 m flat golf putting using 8 motion capture cameras (250 Hz) and 2 force plate (1,000 Hz). SPSS 24.0 was used to perform Pearson's correlation coefficient and simple regression analysis, and the statistically significance level was set to .05. Results: As a result of analyzing the correlation between CoP variables and the putter head rotation angle, the CoP moving length, CoP moving range (ML direction), and CoP moving velocity (ML direction) showed a positive correlation with the putter head rotation angle (yaw axis) and were statistically significant. Conclusion: Therefore, In order to perform the accurate putting stroke maintaining the ball's directionality, it is determined that it is important to control posture sway in the ML directions by minimizing the movement and velocity of the CoP.
Objective: The objective of this study is to present a scientific basis for ballet dancer training methods by analyzing the relationships between subjective assessment of the ballet movement 'Grand pas de chat' and kinematic and electromyographic factors. Method: The subjects were 14 professional dancers with 15 years of experience on average. Four cameras and a wireless electromyogram were used to examine kinematic factors, and the filmed videos were analyzed by 3 experts for subjective assessment. Results: Although no differences in kinematic factors were found between the excellent dancer group and the non-excellent dancer group divided based on the experts' assessment, some difference was found in electromyographic factors, especially in relation to the gastrocnemius muscle, rectus femoris muscle, and erector spinae muscle. A relationship between subjective assessment and kinematic and electromyographic factors was found, and factors such as right-side rectus femoris activation, time required, left-side gastrocnemius activation, and front-back displacement affected subjective assessment. Conclusion: This study showed a relationship between subjective assessment and kinematic and electromyographic factors. To receive higher scores in subjective assessment, it is necessary to extend the hang time by using the lower limb muscles. The findings of this study also indicate the necessity of weight training in order to improve dancing techniques.
