Combustion of refuse derived fuel(RDF) and refuse plastic fuel (RPF) was carried out in a lab-scale circulating fluidized bed. Experiment was investigated cold flow visualization. RDF was made by C & tech and RPF was made by KRS. The results include distribution of temperature in the combustion chamber, and concentrations of flue gas such as $O_2$, $CO_2$, CO, $NO_x$ and HCs Micro G.C(gas chromatograph) was employed to find out concentration of He Temperature distribution was different when RDF and RPF were burnt respectably. As air ratio became increased, $CO_2$, CO, and total of HCs emissions were decreased. According to the number of carbon atom of HCs, HC were classified as five kinds of HC.

In order to reduce harmful substances such as particulates and nitric oxides emitted from diesel engine, man kinds of methodology like high pressure spray of diesel fuel oil, exhaust gas recirculation, emulsified fuel usage and dual fuelling have been studied. Dual fuelling of a diesel engine with hydrogen which is well-known as the clean fuel and has excellent combustibility is expected to be effective in reducing harmful substances from diesel engine. This experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of premixed hydrogen with intake air on the performance and particulate emission characteristics using a single cylinder, prechamber type diesel engine. As a result, it was clarified that a hydrogen-premixed diesel engine can be operated in the state of lower particulate emission and slightly aggravated fuel economy, compared with the conventional diesel engine.

A spacer grid assembly, which is an interconnected array of slotted grid straps and is welded at the intersections to form an egg crate structure, is one of the main structural components of the nuclear fuel assembly for pressurized water reactors(PWRs). The spacer grid assembly is structurally required to have enough buckling strength under various kinds of lateral loads acting on the nuclear fuel assembly so as to keep the nuclear fuel assembly straight. To meet this requirement, it is necessary to weld the welding parts carefully and precisely. In this study, a series of welding tests were carried out to find an optimum welding condition. After examining and analyzing the specimens welded from the welding conditions, a recommendable laser welding condition was selected for the KAERI designed Zircaloy spacer grid assembly.
In this study, weld qualities such as, weld bead size, penetration, spatter, etc. manufactured by various welders were compared and analyzed. Comparison results show that the weld qualities could be improved by selecting the optimal welding condition and also improving the welding technique.
We now expect the various dispersed generation system installation to the power distribution system in a unexpected manner. If so, the power utility may experience the several unexpected problems such as voltage variation, harmonic distortion etc. In order to test the various phenomena related to the fault, we developed the fuel cell simulator and fault simulator. Several kinds of fault cases are tried. Test results and analysis are shown in this paper.

Fuel cells are applied to the propulsion system of aircraft based on environmental-friendly characteristics with low noise and zero emission of CO2, currently many kinds of UAV and small manned aircraft equipped with fuel cells are being developed. Fuel cells for aircraft typically classified into PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) type and SOFC(Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) type and the system is developed to adapt missions and operational conditions of aircraft. For UAV, various types of aircraft mostly based on PEM fuel cell technology are investigated for military or commercial uses, and the stability and endurance of system will be improved. For small manned aircraft, many researches are carried out to substitute the propulsion system by fuel cell, also some developments for the higher performance of APU of large commercial aircraft to apply fuel cells are in progress. In the future, a fuel cell aircraft will be expected to improve the reliability and efficiency with higher power density.

For high fuel economy, many kinds of unit in vehicle have been developed. In steering system, as a result, HPS(Hydraulic Power Steering) system has been replaced as EHPS and EPS system. But the structures of these systems are totally different, and that causes the uncertainty of fuel economy evaluation. Therefore we undertake to research to find results and tendency of fuel economy and energy in steering system. For accurate evaluation, we modeled different types of steering systems on same vehicle model. The simulation came into action on various driving cycle. The driving condition is designed to show standby power of pump. Results show differences of fuel efficiency and energy consumption.
Reburning is one of the most useful technologies for reducing nitric oxide in economically and technically. The reburning process was demonstrated as an effective NOx reduction method through injection of a secondary hydrocarbon fuel. An experimental study has been conducted to evaluate the effect of biomass reburning on NOx and CO formation in a light oil flamed combustion furnace. Reburning tests on NOx reduction of air-carried rice husk powder as the reburn fuel and light oil as the main fuel were performed in flames stabilized by a co-flow swirl and fuel staged burner, which was mounted at the front of the furnace. The results included flue gas emissions and temperature distribution in the furnace for several kinds of experimental conditions. It was observed clearly that NOx concentrations in the exhaust have considerably decreased due to effect of biomass reburning. The maximum NOx reduction rate was 42% when the reburn fuel fraction was 0.18. The CO emissions were kept under 42 ppmv in all experimental tests. And this paper makes clear that in order to decrease NOx concentration in the exhaust when the biomass reburning system is adapted, the control of some factors such as reburn fuel fraction and reburn zone fraction is very important.

The purpose of this study is to compare the part-load performance of a SOFC/GT hybrid power system with three different kinds of load-following operation modes. The primary mode for the part load operation of a hybrid power system is the reduction of supplied fuel (e.g., fuel control mode) to the hybrid system. The other two options, i.e., variable speed and VIGV controls, are related to the reduction of supplied air simultaneously with the reduction of supplied fuel to the system. With the performance analysis of a SOFC/GT hybrid power system, it is concluded that the variable speed con佐ol mode Provides the best performance for the part-load operations. It is also found that the VIGV control mode, with its better performance behavior than the fuel control mode, can be used as an important option for the part-load operation especially in case that the variable speed control mode can not be adopted.

This paper presents a novel approach to economic dispatch (ED) with nonconvex fuel cost function as combinatorial optimization problems (COP) while most of the conventional researches have been developed as function optimization problems (FOP). One nonconvex fuel cost function can be divided into several convex fuel cost functions, and each convex function can be regarded as a generation type (G-type). In that case, ED with nonconvex fuel cost function can be considered as COP finding the best case among all feasible combinations of G-types. In this paper, a genetic algorithm is applied to solve the COP, and the ${\lambda}-P$ function method is used to calculate ED for the fitness function of GA. The ${\lambda}-P$ function method is reviewed briefly and the GA procedure for COP is explained in detail. This paper deals with two kinds of ED problems, namely ED with multiple fuel units (EDMF) and ED with prohibited operating zones (EDPOZ). The proposed method is tested for all the ED problems, and the test results show an improvement in solution cost compared to the results obtained from conventional algorithms.
