  • A new acylcic deterpene (1) and a known acyclic diterpene 12(S)-hydroxygeranyleraniol (2) were isolated form the aerial parts of Carpesium divaricatum. The structure of 1 was determined to be (2E, 10E)-1, 12-dihydroxy-18-acetoxy-3,7,15-trimethylhexadeca-2,10,14-triene (1) on the basis of spectroscopic studies. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited cytotoxicity against cultured human tumor cell lines, A549, SK-OV-3, SK-MEL-2, XF498, and $HCT_{15}$, with $ED_{50}$ values ranging from 4.3-10.2 ${\mu}g/ml$ and 4.1-8.3 ${\mu}g/ml$, respectively.

  • The Korea Chemical Bank (KCB) has more than 80,000 compound collections. provided from many companies, academies and institutes. KCB has supported high-throughput screening (HTS) against 80 biological targets and identified a number of hits over 20 targets. These hits were first validated by confirming the purity and novelty of anticipated compound. We also determined their physiochemical properties. (omitted)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the changes in bone mineral density in long-stay patients of a geriatric hospital in relation to physical therapy, thereby providing basic data for preventing the onset or deterioration of osteoporosis in inpatients of geriatric hospitals or relevant facilities. The subjects of this study were 133 elderly patients who had been in H geriatric hospital in Yongin-si for more than four years. Their bone mineral density T-scores at admission and those after four years were measured to compare and analyze the changes in bone mineral density in relation to physical therapy. According to the results, the decrease in T-score for the group without physical therapy was greater by .40 than that for the group with physical therapy, indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups(p<.01). Accordingly, physical therapy proved to be effective in preventing bone mineral density loss and maintaining the current density.

  • We demonstrate the MMIC(monolithic microwave integrated circuit) frequency doublers generating stable and low-cost 29 ㎓ local oscillator signals from 14.5 ㎓ input signals. These devices were designed and fabricated by using the MMIC integration process of 0.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ gate-length PHEMTs (pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistors). The measurements showed S$\_$11/ of -9.2 dB at 14.5 ㎓, S/sub22/ of -18.6 dB at 29 ㎓ and a minimum conversion loss of 18.2 dB at 14.5 ㎓ with an input power of 6 dBm. The fundamental signal of 14.5㎓ was suppressed below 15.2 dBc compared with the second harmonic signal at the output port, and the isolation characteristics of the fundamental signal between the input and the output port were maintained above 30 dB in the frequency range of 10.5 ㎓ to 18.5 ㎓.

  • The present study examined the effects of functional electrical stimulus(group 1), proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation(group 2) and combined training of functional electrical stimulus and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation(group 3) with scapula adductor muscles on scapula movement, upper limb function and gait in fifteen subjects stroke patients. The training was thirty minutes a day, five times a week for six weeks, obtained result as follow, upper limb function was significant difference in the group 2(p<.05) but no significant difference in other groups. The change of weight bearing were significant difference in all the groups(p<.05), and increase of gait velocity were significant difference in all the group(p<.05). In conclusion, when applied with functional electrical stimulus, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and combined training to the scapular adductor muscles, it was oberved in the course of the experiment that proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation was the most effective treatment among the three methods applied to the scapula adductors.

  • The decade of the 1960s in Korea is normally regarded as a transitional period, but this transition has been consistently viewed in either economic or political terms. In this paper I examine the 1960s and the 1970s as a period of cultural transition―from a neo-Confucian emphasis on "high" art to a broader, more inclusive acceptance of "popular" forms of cultural expression. Although these two realms of cultural production are often viewed as fundamentally antithetical, I argue that there is actually significant continuity in terms of both artistic expression and cultural engagement. In particular, I look at the trajectories of Korean national literature and cinema and their areas of confluence. I examine the career of Kim $S{\breve{u}ng-ok$, who in the 1960s was the preeminent literary voice of a new generation and who in the 1970s was the screenwriter for some of the most popular films of that era, and I show how Kim's career changes track parallel changes in both literature and cinema. Artistically, Kim continued his literary expressions of a new sensibility in his screenplays, bringing to cinema a new infusion of seriousness and respectability. Culturally, Kim continued his explorations of the ways in which rapid changes in Korean politics and the booming economy led to miscommunication and chaos in society. By consistently exploring processes of national identity formation and re-formation, Kim's 1960s literature can be seen as crucial instances of Korean national literature (minjok munhak). In the same manner, Kim's 1970s screenplays can be seen as foundational moments in a Korean national cinema.
