MISTLETOE (Viscum album var. coloratum) Growing on Carpinus laxiflora BL. Induces the Differentiation of Human Acute Promyeocytic Leukemia (HL-60) Cells

  • The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of mistletoe (Viscum album var. coloratum) growing on Carpinus laxiflora BL. on proliferation and differentiation of HL-60 acute promyelocytic leukemia cells. Aqueous extract and its $(NH_2)_2SO_4$ saturated fractions of the mistletoe exhibited potent anti-proliferation activity against HL-60 cells. Moreover, when HL-60 cells were treated with 0~30% and 30~70% $(NH_2)_2SO_4$ saturated fractions of the mistletoe, HL-60 expressed CD 66b or CD 14 cell surface antigens and showed activity to reduce nitroblue tetrazolium, indicating that mistletoe induces the differentiation of HL-60 into granulocytes or monocytes. To understand how mistletoe induces the differentiation, we investigated the expression of molecules for modulating the proliferation and differentiation of leukemia cells, such as c-Myc and myeloblastin. The 0~30% $(NH_2)_2SO_4$ saturated fraction of the mistletoe reduced the mRNA levels of c-Myc and myeloblastin in a time-dependent manner. The results indicate that the mistletoe induces the differentiation of HL-60 cells via the decrease of c-Myc and myeloblastin expressions. Thus, it is suggested that mistletoe has a therapeutic potential for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia.

정진폭 다중 부호 이진 직교 변복조기의 FPGA 설계 및 SoC 구현 (FPGA Design and SoC Implementation of Constant-Amplitude Multicode Bi-Orthogonal Modulation)

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 정진폭 다중 부호 이진 직교 (CAMB: Constant-Amplitude Multi-code Biorthogonal) 변조 이론을 적용한 변복조기를 프로그래밍 가능한 게이트 배열 (FPGA: Field-Programmable Gate Array)을 사용하여 설계하고 시스템 온 칩 (SoC: System on Chip)으로 구현하였다. 이 변복조기는 FPGA을 이용하여 타겟팅 한 후 보드실험을 통해 설계에 대한 충분한 검증을 거쳐 주문형 반도체 (ASIC: Application Specific Integrated Circuit) 칩으로 제작되었다. 이러한 12Mbps급 모뎀의 SoC를 위하여 ARM (Advanced RISC Machine)7TDMI를 사용하였으며 64K바이트 정적 램 (SRAM: Static Random Access Memory)을 내장하였다. 16-비트 PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association), USB (Universal Serial Bus) 1.1, 16C550 Compatible UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) 등 다양한 통신 인터페이스를 지원할 뿐 아니라 ADC (Analog to Digital Converter)/DAC (Digital to Analog Converter)를 포함하고 있어 실제 현장에서 쉽게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

무선 PAN 응용을 위한 FPGA 설계 및 SoC (FGPA Design and SoC Implementation for Wireless PAN Applications)

  • 본 논문에서는 KOINONIA 무선 개인 영역 네트워크 (WPAN: Wireless Personal Area Network) 표준을 프로그래밍 가능한 게이트 배열 (FPGA: Field-Programmable Gate Array)로 설계하고 시스템 온 칩 (SoC: System on Chip)으로 구현하였다. 변조부에서는 정진폭을 유지할 수 있도록 잉여 비트를 이용하여 부호화하였고, 수신부에서는 이 잉여 비트를 복호 하는데 사용함으로써 낮은 신호 대 잡음비 (SNR: Signal to Noise Ratio)에서도 동작이 가능하게 하였다. KOINONIA WPAN은 400만 게이트 급의 FPGA에서 44MHz이상으로 동작하였으며, 무선 주파수 (RF: Radio Frequency) 모듈과의 연동 실험에서는 최소 입력 전력 레벨 감도 (MIPLS: Minimum Input Power Level Sensitivity)가 -86dBm인 환경에서 SNR은 13dB, 패킷 오율 (PER: Packet Error Rate)은 1% 이하라는 높은 성능을 나타내었다. SoC 칩은 하이닉스 0.25um 상보 금속 산화 반도체 (CMOS: Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) 공정을 이용하였으며 면적은 $6.52mm{\times}6.92mm$이다.

A Personalized Recommendation Procedure for E-Commerce

  • A recommendation system tracks past actions of a group of users to make a recommendation to individual members of the group. The computer-mediated marketing and commerce have grown rapidly nowadays so the concerns about various recommendation procedures are increasing. We introduce a recommendation methodology by which e-commerce sites suggest new products of services to their customers. The suggested methodology is based on web log analysis, product taxonomy, and association rule mining. A product recommendation system is developed based on our suggested methodology and applied to a Korean internet shopping mall. The validity of our recommendation system is discussed with the analysis of a real internet shopping mall case.

  • Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN) is an optical CCD camera system made by Center for Exploration of the Origin of the Universe (CEOU). CQUEAN is developed for follow-up observation of red sources such as high-redshift quasar candidates ($z{\geq}5$), gamma-ray bursts (GRB), brown dwarfs and young stellar objects. The CQUEAN is composed of a science camera with deep-depletion CCD chip which is sensitive at around $1{\mu}m$, a set of custom-made wide-band filters for detection of quasar candidates at z~5, and a guide camera. A focal reducer was developed to secure $4.8^{\prime}{\times}4.8^{\prime}$ field of view, and an in-house user software for efficient data acquisition. CQUEAN was attached to 2.1m Otto Struve Telescope in McDonald Observatory, USA, in August 2010. About 1000 quasar candidates including 3 confirmed with follow-up spectroscopy, have been observed so far, and many high-z galaxy cluster candidates, GRBs and supernovae were also observed. And monitoring of HBC 722, a young stellar object, is under way since 2011. Further enhancement of CQUEAN including the introduction of narrow-band filters is planned.

진성구취 및 가성구취 환자군의 심리적 특성차이에 대한 연구 (Comparison Characteristic on Psychological Status between Genuine and Pseudo Halitosis)

  • Objectives : This study was designed to investigate the difference between genuine and pseudo halitosis about qi stagnation and stress. Methods : We recruited 63 halitosis patients who visited the halitosis clinic in the Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital from June 2012 to August 2013. We classified the halitosis patients into two groups, genuine and pseudo halitosis based on organoleptic assesment (OLT) score and evaluated the severity of self-reported halitosis using visual analog scale (VAS), amount of sulfide compounds using Halimeter, qi stagnation level using qi stagnation questionnaire and stress levels using heart rate variability (HRV) parameters. Results : Comparing the genuine halitosis group and the pseudo halitosis group, there was no significant difference in VAS of halitosis but significant difference in halimeter score. Distribution of qi stagnation and non-qi stagnation groups was significantly different between genuine and pseudo halitosis. Compared to the genuine halitosis group, the pseudo halitosis group showed a significant higher value of low frequency/high frequency ratio (LF/HF ratio). Conclusions : The result of this study suggest that there is significant difference about qi stagnation and stress level between genuine halitosis and pseudo halitosis patients, so when approaching pseudo halitosis patients, we should consider their psychological and emotional status.

3차원 안면자동인식기(3D-AFRA)의 Hardware 정밀도 검사 : 형상복원 오차분석 (An Hardware Error Analysis of 3D Automatic Face Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA) : Surface Reconstruction)

  • 1. Objectives The Face is an important standard for the classification of Sasang Constitution. We are developing 3D Automatic Face Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA) to analyse the facial characteristics. This apparatus show us 3D image and data of man's face and measure facial figure data. So we should examine the figure restoration error of 3D Automatic Fare Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA) in hardware Error Analysis. 2. Methods We scanned Face status by using 3D Automatic Face Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA). And also we scanned Face status by using laser scanner(vivid 9i). We compared facial shape data be restored by 3D Automatic Face Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA) with facial shape data that be restorated by 3D laser scanner. And we analysed the average error and the maximum error of two data. 3. Results and Conclusions In frontal face, the average error was 0.48mm. and the maximum error was 4.60mm. In whole face, the average error of was 0.99mm. And the maximum error was 6.64mm. In conclusion, We assessed that accuracy of 3D Automatic Face Recognition Apparatus(3D-AFRA) is considerably good.
